As a McLaren fan, I must say you are right: we can't pretend that they are a midfield team anymore, they are a front runner. I don't want McLaren to become like what Mercedes and Ferrari were some years ago when they were winning: top tier cars but a mess operationally, especially Ferrari. Also, I think Lando is one of the best drivers on the grid, but he needs to find that final edge and killer instinct to beat Max on a consistent basis.

also i think in terms of strategy we are still very reactive vs proactive, which is the difference between an experienced pitwall vs one learning to be a front runner

Agree almost entirely except imo they’re not entirely a front runner team just yet despite beating the mighty works merc team and bissing all over the chasis pu integration advantages of all works teams, it’s still to be developed a bit to be on par in terms of resources with their counterparts, right now mclaren is 4th team in terms of resources, despite new WT, they still lack resources and key headcount, pitwall, strat n management & other key areas.. so its more absolute bonkers and a headspinner for all other teams how theyre able to put together such a cohesive and be so consistent in the development race ,with successful correlations on trick w their plans n upgrades, with fewer people and no works team advantages.
it’s underestimated the job andrea stella is doing and with the current progress mclaren despite the new regs in 26being around the pu’s and key for having works deals, should be the clear contender with fuckall pace gap or the outright benchmark atleast . There is no way around it, i sus the 26regs will bring a three way title battle , with mclaren as guarantee contender and two other unclears. I dun bring merc in despite all the regs and toto selling the 26dreams, merc has had too many people leaving and coming, its going to take time and need to restructure in some areas before they can work efficiently, whereas almost any other team apart from redbull and alpine is structured so they’re not having people come and go every a week of so. The promise of closer racing will probably be true w this regs but this comes at a cost of no going back and increasing shift towards indy like setup with technical limitations in regs and their agenda of sustainability.. i just wish to see lewis or Fernando in a title battle against whoever theyre pitted against or both of them battle for the title to mark the absolute peak of f1 for good. Imagine really, no lewis or fernando past 28… thats 1/5th viewership right there

@@veemr4877 for sure, think they lost it more as a team then lando himself alone in the first corner. Will leave out that he had wheelspin but that's also setting up your car (aka team game), They could have pit him early on the mediums to softs to try an undercut. Why did he not have a fresh set of softs like max in the last stint? All those little things are the difference between a win and be second.

The way Aldas talked about George in the last video you would think he would at least acknowledge that this is the the second race, Imola being the first, where Lando should have gotten the win but did not. The difference is George went overboard fighting for what could be his only win while Lando couldn't make good of having pole and the fastest car.

Norris has ten second places since Silverstone last year and is destroying his teammate who was supposed to be the second coming. Russell is not scoring second places and he's barely able to beat the aging driver he was hired to more or less replace. Russell has thrown away several podiums and good points scores all by himself, if he really can at all. Norris has not cost himself actual points finishes with his mistakes like Russell's have. Lando truly showcased his showmanship, delivering an entertaining race that kept us on the edge of their seats. Had he started in P1 and simply maintained his lead over Max Verstappen, the race might have devolved into a routine affair, punctuated only by some midfield overtakes.
However, it was Lando’s bold pit strategy and his thrilling half-lap duel with George Russell that injected excitement into the race. Watching him gradually close the gap to Max was a testament to his skill and determination, making the race anything but boring. If Lando had won from pole, it might have seemed less remarkable, and he might not have even been voted Driver of the Day. I disagree that Lando lost the win because he did not manage to overtake George immediately. Had he passed the race would have been of course different but even so, he seemed to have enough pace to get at least closer to Max. The strategy was simply unorthodox and McLaren just didn't believe they could have won on pure pace and not via strategy. When Max entered the pits for the second time the difference between him and Lando was 4 sec. McLaren should have pulled Lando in immediately after a final push lap and give him the chance to fight. Instead they tried to repeat what they did with the 1st and 2nd stint which could never work. There was not enough time. McLaren should have acted like a frontrunner and not try to pull rabbits out of their hats.

I think the most impressive thing about McLaren and Lando, is that Lando is only 24.
Lando still has 2/3 years of youth and inexperience behind Max, Charles, George, etc. This means he's gonna have 2/3 more years of genuine experience (if McLaren can hold this level of performance) by the time he reaches their ages. I think this has been the main factor holding Lando back really.
He never got a race winning car. Charles got one in his 2nd year, Max got on in his 2nd season. So seeing Lando get a chance to grow into this role, fighting and learning from the best drivers who have a slight edge of experience on him, will benefit him when he gets to their stage of his career, the same why driving with Seb improved Charles, or battling Lewis improved Max.

Max is in that lewis phase of 2018 where ferrari was faster. He is in his absolute prime. Can grind out results and pole laps out of the bag. Lando is nowhere near beating max, among the younger drivers only leclerc can snatch the odd win from max. I think it just comes from not having a teammate(unlike max with dr,lec with vettel, george with lewis) who kept him honest but he will learn from trting to hunt max down.

I’m not even a lando fan but I’m seriously NOT GETTING the hate he’s receiving after that race. He messed up ONCE all weekend which was the start and the tyres were not good enough to overtake an improved Mercedes so if was always going to be difficult but verstappen didn’t get boxed in at turn 1 so he was able to get past in the opening laps. But as soon as Russell got out the way Lando was easily quicker unlike piastri who was fumbling around in 8th. Lando also lost multiple seconds because of Russell and his team and he would’ve gotten easily gotten verstappen. He was quickest all race and better than Verstappen for me and whilst it was a costly mistake, it was the only one all weekend so I think he just got lucky.

Lando fans will somehow get him DOTD even if he finishes behind Max every single race with a faster car. He gets too much attention and if he doesn't start to challenge Max soon then it will be obvious he doesn't deserve a car this good and belongs with a car that can get podiums at times. I'm not saying this is the case but if he keeps messing up like this then it's just true. He has bottled all his win chances even in Miami he bottled all his chances with a bad quali but coincidentally the SC came out at the right time for him. He isn't winning anymore because every thing doesn't go his way

I'm not fooled by the close qualifying battles because one only has to look at years like 2019...where Ferrari were arguably the quickest on Saturdays, took many poles, yet other than the odd race, Merc was still the class of the field on Sunday. Merc were still the dominant force, overall.
Looking at 2024 so far, RB have had a significant race pace advantage (finishing races 30s, 20s, 10s etc ahead) until 3 races ago (Monaco). I'm gonna ignore Australia and Miami because those races were won by Ferrari and McLaren not due to a RB lack of pace, but because of technical issues for RB (Australia) and a mistake by Max in Miami. So that leaves the last 3 races where "seemingly" the pack has closed at the top. Let's look at Canada, for instance. George needed a tow to outqualify Max and even when Max's got outqualified, Max was able to pull a decent gap pretty quickly once he passed George in the race. That to me indicates Max had the quickest car in race trim. So, if we are all honest with ourselves, Max has had the quickest car in every race so far, bar maybe Spain and Monaco. He lost in Monaco. But even in Spain, the RB was probably just about equal with the McLaren. So all this talk about RB not being the quickest car is wrong. Overall, it's been the best car by far, more often than not.

I hope this superior McLaren performance makes it clearer to people how Max makes the difference every weekend. In 22, when Ferrari had a better package at the start of the season, Max still won most races. And that's the case today: Red Bull does not have an RB19 anymore, the other teams are close, and you can see that in Checo's results. He's the last of the four teams, simply because his delta to Max has been filled with McLaren, Ferrari, and now, Mercedes. For me, it's clear that Red Bull will lose the constructors's title, not because McLaren will be 2nd and 3rd every weekend, but because Checo will be P8 consistently.
Speaking of Lando, I honestly think he's not that good yet, same as Charles, or George, or Carlos, or even Oscar Piastri. These guys are absurdly fast, but not as complete and mature as Max is right now. Only Lewis and Fernando would be able to challenge Max throughout an entire season, and that's why 2024 will be like 2019: Other teams might win a race or two, but at the end, we know who will prevail. We have 14 races left, and if we maintain this performance between the cars, I'd be surprised if Lando ends up winning more than 2 of them. There's something I think most people are not taking into consideration: We haven't seen Max fight on track for YEARS now. Even if Lando catches up and tries to make a move, it's still a move against Max Verstappen.
