- Johnny Cash performs "Folsom Prison Blues" at Farm Aid VI in Ames, Iowa on April 24, 1993.
Willie Nelson is a co-founder and President of Farm Aid, along with co-founders and board members Neil Young, and John Mellencamp. The three agreed that family farmers were in dire need of assistance and decided to plan a concert for America. The show was put together in six weeks and was held on September 22, 1985 in Champaign, Illinois before a crowd of 80,000 people. It raised over $9 million for America's family farmers. Performers included Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and many more.
Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's Board of Directors in 2001 to help further Farm Aid's mission of keeping family farmers on their land.

I was in attendance, we were all "good to go" when Johnny got out there~ ;) I treasure these memories!
He didn't start singing here. First he greeted the guitarists. A real Gentleman with manners. He always treated other people with respect.
I think he was getting a pick off them 😀
@@lincolnhowe6640 I agree. You might be right. Greetings CD
Cash is a real OG
I was at that show and I tell you this when Johnny came out he stole the show!
I love it when Johnny Cash plays that guitar, Johnny Cash and Reggie Young and The Highwaymen are too good, too SICKKK...

@1:23 and 2:06 the fantastic Reggie Young (1936 -2019 )on guitar. RIP.
Johnny Cash had so much character. That's why he's my favorite
Good to hear a song with Mickey Raphael
A legend took the stage and were hearing a train close by..Johnny Cash is phenomenal and a great legend of country music..rhythm is on track and melody is fantastic..a go getter
The greatest entertainer on the planet and the most beautiful ballads of all times
And the most amazing backing musicians!!!
Compared to some of his later versions of this song this one actually sounds really good
One of the main differences is the lead guitar. Reggie Young could have beaten Bob Wootton in his sleep
@@lassimiettinen8044 True.
@@lassimiettinen8044 yeah Reggie Young recorded in the top studios playing his Telecaster. True Professional.
We were there! John Trudell also performed.
The sound engineer must be Willie Nelson. He's high.
