Easily your best video to date. Well done Jeff and Brian! Got chills down my back when you got on Justin’s wheel with 1 corner to go. So epic. Well done
Good tip about tailgunning. Simple yet I never thought of that. Will apply it at the Tuesday nigh crit where the large "B" group has quite a few novice/new riders (which is supposed to be the "B" race anyway) and they invariably slow through the turns then it is a mad dash acceleration to close back on the leaders. I'm still building after shattering my left lower leg and do not have much in the acceleration department. Tailgunning will be a good tactic to use there. More please!
I like that new term “Tail Gunning”. Used to be frowned upon and called being a “Wheel Sucker” back in the old days. I never saw anything wrong with doing that. Conserving energy for the end of the race. That’s being a smart rider.
Nobody was on the drops until two laps to go. There's not much to learn here. It's a clown show. Greg lemond could spend all day in the drops. Back when cyclists don't paint rainbow colors on their chain, and John henry and Paul bunyan cleared the road the day before the race.
Hey man I've been subed for a couple of weeks and I've been binge watching your vids, they're so addicting. Because of you, Phil Gaimon and Vegan Cyclist I'm looking to buy a used roadie cause my XC bike just isn't cutting it on the road haha. 9/28/20 update for myself: Finally got the road bike! 2009 Giant TCR SL. I named her "Top Gun" hehe.
Yesss!! Such epic racing, my heart rate spiked when you hopped on stars&stripes leadout, and held the wheel, gasping for air down in the virgin islands, these crit videos are sooo legit. You guys keep up the madness!! So jealous!! Awesome!
finally was able to see in person what you’re talking about. You’re Crit races The Williams Brothers we’re racing at the Army forces Arlington. VA June 1 and June 2 2019. This crit race is considered to be the hardest crit in USA both brothers where straggling. To stay in the peloton. The blue team kHS dominate the race both days the first day they got First place 1 /2/4/5/6 places the second day 2 of then loop the field. And most of them got on the top 10. Both days they beat everyone in the sprint. If you can beat kHS you’re good .
Though difficult accepting loss, thanks for still praising L3910N. They’re inspirational for cycling in America and you shouldn’t be ashamed of your finish at all. Much respect! As you mentioned, if certain communication gaffs hadn’t happened, y’all would have had it. Great strategy
Great finish third right? That's pretty good. Great effort. This best watching any television. I stopped watching cycling races on television years and years ago. A Dutch guy Jasper I was introduced to from a friend also has some great videos.
These people taking photos at the end of the race shouldn't do that. Reminds me of a time we went sprint training on Tuesday mornings. We have 7 sprints. We turned into midland at about 6:15 am and were already doing 50 kph and these two Aboriginals crossed the road without looking as a whole swarm of cyclists went around them. One of the riders said to the boys don't move as we missed them by millimetres. One of the Aboriginals was so scared and didn't know whether to run or stay still. The other one bolted. I always remember that time.
damn, great commentary and racing..if you get a chance, come to NYC and do the Central Park crits, more technical and 6.2 miles of adulating road per lap, and you race with some really good people...
There are many comments about Cat 5 people sloppy riding. but when the guy at 8:50 slows down, at his level, wouldn't he know to pull off to the side to not cause a crash?
Super content and dual commentary. At the elbow flick you smash that shit, get inside of JW, push him wide and get high five from everybody after the race. Real good wheel surfing at the back too.
Sorry, you've been asked a hundred times before I guess - but how do I get the Data (Speed and Watt) into a video? Best greetings from germany. Keep on the good work.
It's hard to know the strength of the wind the entire race but you should add it with the direction. It's fun to watch how much you guys slow down in a headwind.
As always amazing video, so interesting. That last bit when he looks through his legs, and realises Brian is not his team mate. Do you think he'd then flick his elbow if Justin had been on his wheel, or would have just carried on riding? It's insane how much seems to happen in that last corner to deny Brian and get Justin back on the wheels to pull out the sprint. If Brian had go the inside line do you think he'd have got 3rd? Thanks
Samuel Bellinger that was justin upfront, and yes it was a mindgame, justin had nothin left in the tank so he moved right and shut the door left to cause him to brake, while his team mate was allowed to take the rightside and get back on his wheel. Almost impossible tactic to survive against, would have had to launch his attack as soon as he saw justin look under his seat, and swing wide. Even in that scenario it just lets donte get on his leadouts wheel and take the inside line. Really, brain should have positioned himself behind their sprinter-donte. Its usually best to start a sprint from 3+ back anyway.
Ajblue agree and disagree. I will never be able to come around Dante if I wait til they start their sprint. So I need a head start. It was shaping up to be a 20-30sec sprint vs a leadout + a10sec sprint. But when jw shut the door, he forced a deceleration on me that I couldn’t ever recover from. My only luck would have been to divebomb JW but that’s pretty risky.
@@bryanlrsn7 Amazing to have that level of finesse at the pointy end of a bike race at that level whilst going 32mph. Boggles my mind what you lads are capable of. Hope you get down there and get some pay back soon Bryan! (And Jeff).
13:02 if you hooked left and took the inside and attacked you would have taken the win but really smart racing and great effort. Insane how fast these races are and how tactical they are
So, why the difference in speed between Norcal and Socal crits? Is it the course setup for Norcal races? Is it rider ability? Are Norcal riders just more cautious? I've only been exposed to crit racing this year thru your vids and Trainerroad's. So, of course, I keep hearing about Norcal riding being legit with some heavy hitters. Now with theae last two vids, I hear from Norcal riders touting the abilities of Socal riders. I was like, wth, there's a while nother level of speed I haven't seen yet. Great vid as always and great seeing Brian up there in the pack representing Norcal.
Pan flat 4 corner crit with only left turns and super wide roads. This means the speeds are super high because you can carry a lot of speed through them. Norcal seems to ride on tighter courses with crappier roads and more turns.
I got new equipment after doing joint commentary with Bryan for the first time. Then, I slowly learned the basics of audio mixing. Thanks for noticing 👍
And Justin still had legs for an emergency sprint after that leadout hahaha. That's impressive

NorCal needs to send our best Criterium guys to Socal. North vs South.
Those Netherlands colors make it easy to spot Jasper Verkuijl fighting for position in there, right up until the crash took him out.
Green bar tape too.
Those are probably SDBC (San Diego Bicycle Club) colors. But close enough :)
