    Hey guys.
This is my longest video ever, and by far the one I've put the most time and energy into, and the only reason I can do that with an idea this weird, is the support I get on patreon, so first up, thank you to everyone who supports me, you make unreasonable projects like this possible, and second, if you liked this video and want to help support the slow decent into madness that has been this channel, you can do so at:
    www.patreon.com/Supereyepatchwolf
I'm also gonna be hosting a patron discord hang out in the near future where I talk to patrons one on one, so feel free to drop by for that (more info on my discord)
But as ever, whether you're a patron or not thanks for watching. I'm going to lie down for several days now, and spend a bit of time resting up cause I am burnt out in the next few weeks, and I hope you do the same.
Its a weird world out there, but thanks for checking out my videos, and ill see you in the new year.

It's been more than ten years for his transformation. Hell, Lasagna Cat was 2008, and then again in 2017. We are almost into 2024. If you go by that timeline alone, we're into nearly 15 years. Add into that the bizarreness and subtle obsession with Garfield just being online in general, and you're getting into well over a couple decades.

@@galenburghardt3272I guess it depends on the location and which newspaper. Back when I lived in Southern California, back in the late 90's and early 2000's there were 2 comics that dominated both daily and Sunday in the newspaper comics section. Foxtrot was seen, though I didn't see much of Hagar the Horrible if ever. I'm stating my experiences and what I saw from the OC Register back then. I did see others like Little Orphan Annie, Doonesbury, and even a bit of Dennis The Menace. Surprisingly I don't recall seeing Calvin and Hobbes though.
Though the titanic king of newspaper comics was Peanuts by Charles Schultz or was regularly placed at the top of the comics section, Garfield would be in second place. The Sunday comics basically proved that as Peanuts was first shown and taking up the most space.

When I was a kid, I occasionally stayed at my grandma's house overnight. I stayed in my mom's old bedroom, and she had a 6 inch tall Garfield statue. She doesn't know where she got it, or why she had it, since she knew barely anything about Garfield. When my Grandma moved house, she was going to get rid of the statue, but I held onto it for nostalgia's sake and it still sits on a shelf in my bedroom. Only after watching this video, did I realise that Garfield watched my mother sleep, and to this day, every single night, watches me sleep...

did not expect myself to cry about a video on garfield but damn it was emotional. when you were talking about the forgiveness of john and how he finally rises above everything and you say that he might fall again, you add on that it's fine because for now he's okay, and that just broke me. it's a really realistic take on life and it hits deeper than saying that you'll overcome everything and become strong forever because in reality life is a lot of ups and downs and achievements and failures. you really have a talent for timing humor and horror and conveying it so well in all of your videos, and this goes beyond a deep dive and into a great perspective on life as a whole. thanks for the great video!

about 7 years ago, I was working on a dairy farm. the hours were terrible, and I rarely had a day off. the pay was shit. the owners were beligerent morons. I was so stressed working there, that I would find places to hide just so I could cry. I was a fucking mess, and so was my life. I staggered home one night, rolled a joint (back when I still smoked the leafy green), and sat in the back of my house, on the verge of tears. my cat followed me to my chair, but instead of clawing my leg or jumping on my lap uninvited like she normally would, she gently nuzzled her nose against my hand. when I looked down towards her, she wasn't looking for the next place to walk to; she was looking me right in the eyes. I think she knew something was going on with me and she was trying to comfort me. I never saw her do something like that before, and for that brief moment, I didn't feel so alone.
so, while cats can definitely act like self-serving assholes, I do think that animals are smarter (or at least more aware) than we humans give them credit for. I miss that cat...

Just yesterday; I asked my future mother-in law - in tears, hopelessly, what would I do with my despair if I didn't keep it down with a dependency on food. For context, I am type 1 diabetic and have been _potentially_ a majority of my life but have only been diagnosed in 2022. My relationship with food, particularly foods that contain carbohydrates has been torn asunder as I was (and have been) subconsciously using food to sorta cope with major depression. Nothing to look forward to all day except... what I would be having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In that way, perhaps Garfield and I aren't too dissimilar. So, when I reached the end of the video, and saw Jon forgive this, embodiment of his despair and torment (particularly connected to gluttony and sloth) thus vanquishing it from him....
I guess, I feel like I wish I could be that strong. Find a way to forgive my emptiness and let my need to fill it go. Maybe it'll hurt for a long time, but I'll find something healthier to fill it with eventually.

Just try not to get too down on yourself if you slip up and find yourself falling back into bad habits. You're only human and we all stumble and make mistakes and even regress along the way but as long as you never give up and hold on to your goal with white knuckled determination you will succeed one day. If nothing else please know that, though we are strangers and may never know each other, there is at least one person out there in the world rooting for you.

The line "When you stare at something for long enough, it becomes... nothing" really hits deeper once I've finished watching this video. Rewatching the beginning, it seemed like a normal video that was going to give a little explanation about what happened to Garfield on the internet, and I would've never guessed that it would be so genuinely emotional by the end and that I would actually think of Garfield any differently from what I did before watching.
After listening and just seeing what Garfield has become, it felt more natural and real, it wouldn't have hit the same way if I just skipped to the end, I would think that is just silly and move on with my day. The video talked so much about Garfield's disturbing reality, that i've accepted that as something normal.
After we've seen something for long enough, it loses meaning. It becomes normal. We learn to live with it without any questioning. Like a 3 panel comic strip that will never stop repeating itself.

The observation is backwards, it was never nothing or everything, it's just, anything. All this stuff is just the same old, pretended to have a special meaning because Garfiield is injected into it. People looking at all of history and jsut say "it's boring", so "fandom" makes the same shit but with Garfield. Repetition is what organisms DO, and a repetitive comic strip is just the lowest common denominator of that.
The lie is that they get to be called "a fandom". They just include ONE semiotic symbol in their visual lexicon. For reference, EVERY ENGLISH WORD is such a symbol already. It's like, how many people latched onto the particle "the" and became fans of its function at making anything a noun. Suddenly Garfield is MORE original diversion because it's not The Garfield. And it easily could be, because speaking in nouns IS the most braindead way to live as a human being.
Toddlers point at things, and find the one interesting factor about it to be its name, recognizing it as a noun. "look mom, I recognize that visual, it's the Garfield again!" And toddlers cry when something eerie spooks them. So, most toddler-like people like the fact that "oh, it's just somebody doing the garfield thing again", so they don't have to engage with the material any further than that. Not see it for anything more that could possibly be going on. And create it for the purpose to NOT have anything more going on. It IS the exact same as publishing the strip for decades on end. It's THIS GENERATION being calcified, uninspired mass consumer of the new print media, internet.

Been a john just as long, but nothing wrong with accepting His first interpterion of Garfield, an acceptance of Depression and Nihilism, or how I prefer to say "getting over it". You don't have to succeed to be happy, that's a toxic train of thought that doesn't get talked about enough. Giving up is 100% a-ok. And don't let a bunch of brain chiropractors or some neurotypicals autism project (that was deep and profound) tell you that you have to succeed to be happy. I could do without the Positive End message of some Neurotypical who probably only went through Brief situational depression telling everyone to get help. Personally I say be a Garfield, let others work hard while you reap and relax in the repeatable entertainment that comes from a bunch of apparently depressed people born on the right side of the spectrum in what is arguably the best time period to ever exist. You don't need to accomplish jack shit, and thinking you have to is not healthy.

The thing about pattern recognition is that it cannot occur if there isn't a pattern to be recognized. There is a very real reason why the pattern is evident in the first place statistically speaking, but the patterns themselves are frequently commonplace enough that we often fail to recognize them. So when we do notice them, it's surprising and odd to think that such a pattern has been so present outside of our awareness.

I was in training for The Marine Corps and I had a dude in my unit who created a whole religion based on the idea of ‘Muslim Garfield’ and when he would explain how, just like a 7 layer lasagna, there are 7 layers of heaven. The more he talked abt it the more and more I was intrigued

I started reading the Garfield strips online during Highschool when I wasn’t doing much. I enjoyed the simplicity of the stories and it was cool to see him doing his thing because I saw the show. Overtime I noticed something I overlooked for my entire life. Jon wasn’t having a conversation with Garfield, he was just talking to a cat that didn’t talk back. It messed me up a little realizing that Jon was just some guy with little to no friends and just talking to a Cat. It’s weird but fitting how the internet shifted this

In the mid to late 2000s I had an English professor that told us about a website called Garfield Minus Garfield where they removed Garfield and Odie from the strip and its exactly as depressing as what you picked up on. There used to be videos on RUclips where they removed Garfield from the cartoon as well but obviously that took quite a bit more effort so there aren't as many of those vids floating around.

I can't shake the feeling that this wave of horror Garefield art, twisting something previously considered absolutely normal and inoffensive, is tied to the sociopolitical realities of today. In a sense, the post-2010s have been a time of "awakening" of society where everyone, willing or not, has been forced to confront a LOT of evils we have ignored for the past decades. Climate change being the most prominent, but also the numerous celebrity abuse scandals, the Epstein trial, the Panama Papers, the Pentagon Papers... it's the revelation of a deep rot that has always existed at the core of our society, that we have ignored for a long time.
And when so many people find out that so much of what was normal to them was hiding something dangerous and horrific that they'd been ignoring for so long... it feels very fitting to apply that frame of mind to everything. Including a comic strip about an asshole cat and his surprisingly dysfunctional owner. It's the same thing: it was there, in plain sight, for so long. And we never noticed, because it was all so normal to us...

I think Garfield has survived as long as it has primarily because it's one of very few boomer comics that doesn't rely on the two tropes of "I hate my wife" and "haha young person doesn't know what ____ is"
