A very good explanation, and demonstration video! Thumbs up. Myself, I have a belt drive turntable, and did surface cleaning. By the way, can a phono cartridge such as that one, it looks like an Ortofon, be connected to a tonearm that has T4P connection? Thanks for any advise, ellaskins.

I risked taking off the platter and plastic cover and any other removable parts then loading it into my new house dishwasher upside down with a fairy tab and running it on a eco steam clean.I had the turntable for over twenty years so there was a bin full of wet wipes or this high risk gamble to get rid of decades of brown microgrime. I though I would have destroyed the circuit boards and connecting leads so on removing it toweled the water off took it out on the dishwasher tray and put a floor fan heater on it for an afternoon on a low heat whilst I was out .The next day I left it exposed on my sundeck and let it dry out some more as there may have been some damp in hidden parts .Then on the third day blew into any areas to check again.Put it back together like the back on the plug after being certain it was bone dry. wiped any water spots away with a water based wet wipe and fingers crossed turned it on .It wasn't broken as I thought I had destroyed something. My gamble payed off and I can now cancel the technics service I had booked as back up at a local service center. It looks brand new inside and out and maybe in another twenty years I will put it back in my dishwasher as over the years they are a real dust magnet!

    Hi there.
Nice inspiration to get more in touch with the analog gear.
Check out the user and service manual while doing maintenance on this icon, and read also about the 2 or 3 drops of original SFWO 010 oil on the right spot on the center spindle .
I couldn't formulate it better as DJ PRO LAB Technics tone arm check on youtube when I would begin with secondhand turntables.
I would surely love to learn more about this groovy DJ gear, to get the best out of it when the time comes.
One thing I recently came to notice by an article is that the songs on the outer edge / beginning of a (almost new ,real) 33 rpm 12 inch vinyl disc are the most crunchy ones with the best (high) frequency response .
    Have fun

I get a Needle bottle (Sold In packs empty) and fill with Sawing machine oil, then I lift the centure spindle and pop a few drops around the bass. Wiggle up and down to get to go down the spindle. The green sticker says Pat Test has been done., sometimes a venue will ask for Your Pat test sheet. If You do not have this or the Stickers with the correct date. You are not playing that Venue. Not just the Pat Test but Public liability insurance as well.

    Question for ya :
A few weeks ago i took my platters off to clean out the rubbish as i do from time to time ...............
Then the next time i got round to playing them one of the Decks just started going a million miles a hour when i turned it on hahaha
I think its something to do with the on/off knob because after clicking on and off for five minutes the Deck was fine .
What do you think happened ???
    Thanks 8)

Awesome video, but you rotated the disk forward and backwards with the needle on the record, that only works with a DJ cartridge and needle. Normal cartridges and needles only rotate in ONE direction. Very important if you dont have the DJ set up. I have the DJ set up in case I want to do some cueing and scratching. Awesome video man !!!

You obliviously never get out of the bedroom. On the road You are dealing with Heat, condensation, vapor from smoke machines, all of these grab dust, and It settles on everything. and gets In everywhere. It Is good practice to take a few hours out every 3 to 4 months. And clean everything, even lubricate the faders on the mixer as these will get mucked up as well.

    This is a joke right?
The natural oil from your fingers from touching that q-tip before cleaning the headshell contacts will corrode the gold contacts in the tonearm connector over time.
I wouldn't recommend rubbing the headshell contacts on your jeans either.. afterall, who knows where those jeans have been!
Use contact cleaner on your q-tip to properly clean the headshell and tonearm connector contacts.
Oh, and more more thing,.. A drill? Try a screwdriver. These things are delicate and you could easily strip the threads of that screw with a drill.
