What makes this friendship even more special is that Carlos' family consideres Lando part of their family, Carlos' cousin got married a few days ago and Lando was invited and seated next to Carlos' girlfriend and even at the family table during the celebrations, dynamics like this are basically unheard off in a competitive environment like F1

They became even more close after they stopped being teammates because they don't even have to compete with each other in the same team. They spend a lot of time together off track and as we saw this weekend Carlos' family adopted Lando completely.

Lando got officially adopted into the Sainz family when he was invited to Carlos’s cousin’s wedding and sat at the close family table

Lando actually talked about how he struggled a bit mentally the first year in F1 with all the attention and media and all that. It was very draining to him. I believe that might be part of why Carlos seems to take the lead and pull Lando along in interviews. Lando's grown a lot and is much better equipped to handle it now and seems much more comfortable around the media.

this video really demonstrates the two of them being the epitome of that one audio, "this is lando. lando loves his personal space. this is carlos. carlos also loves lando's personal space."
lando was so young here looking back, god. still very shy around the media. he's grown into that a lot over the years. as has carlos and lando's relationship, hell, lando's practically a sainz now.

Carlos is so underrated in F1! as a driver but even more as a person, he doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves for McLaren being one of the most popular teams 2019-2020. With Lando coming in a rookie, he really took on the role of the team's foundation

Definitely! Yuki and Pierre almost seem to have that dynamic of exchange students that bonded on a brain and chaos level despite the language and cultural barriers. I love their interaction.

They really do have such a special friendship. They bring the best out of each other and it is especially interesting how this has evolved since 2019. Lando was that complete bit of fresh air for Carlos, encouraged him to embrace his silly side, but also I think allowed Carlos to be the very open and sensitive person he is. I think Carlos in his drives before McLaren had to surpress that slightly... or at least wasn't comfortable expressing it to just anyone. Carlos really fosters Lando, takes the piss sometimes and teases, but as you say it ultimately comes from places of care and affection. In 2019 especially there was an interesting pattern of if Lando was critiquing his performance or being harsh on himself, Carlos would always come in with a counterpoint or a bolster, he refused to allow Lando to put himself down. Also, Carlos was coming from a kind of dip in his early career, but Lando showed such respect and reverence for him that I think Carlos must have taken confidence from. I think in a 2020 or 21 video they're asked who their favourite driver is or who they think is the best and Lando literally chooses Carlos Carlos is also a very tactile person whereas especially in 2019/20 Lando did not find that came naturally I don't think. Whereas now, they are virtually always attached at the hip at race weekends. I think now in 2022, their relationship has evolved from that kind of brotherly dynamic (which still features) to more of one of equals, soulmates really. Carlos said this year that he is very private with the people he is close with and though we see a lot of them hanging around each other, you can just tell that they are there for each other.
Sorry for this mammoth comment 🤣 it is just SO special to have witnessed the evolution of their friendship and how good they have been for each other. I think Lando especially has really settled into himself, even in this last year alone, and I think that is also visible. Finally, I think one of the other defining features of their friendships is Lando's absolute willingness to learn, and Carlos' absolute willingness to support and guide. It is so rare to have a friendship like this in F1 between drivers 🧡❤

"Lando might be little more uptight than Carlos with the media around"
Not uptight, just being a shy guy. 🙂 He himself says in the interviews that he is shy. At least he says so nowadays when he's a bit less shy 😄

These guys are such an iconic duo. I’ve been a huge fan of Carlos and of their dynamic but I’m really warming up to Lando as well. I think the dynamic he has with his new teammate Oscar Piastri is super interesting and I would love to see your reaction to them, because the shoe is on the other foot in a way, since Oscar is younger (only one year though) and very introverted and (unlike Daniel!) very un-Australian, but extremely self-confident and snarkily funny like a typical ultra-intelligent person - a bit Kimi but not quite as barefaced I guess. Watching their interactions over the first half of the season has been really cool, Lando has brought Pastryboy out of his shell and they have a lot of the good-natured Aussie-Brit rivalry going on. Watching the videos by Formula 2/3 teams and fan compilations is a lot of fun. 😌 Oscar is hilarious imo. It’s gonna be interesting to see what happens when Oscar starts to make Lando really work for his “number one” status. I think they’re the most drama-free pair on the grid this year though, and while Oscar is a rookie and Lando is an old hand now (at the age of 23😂) I think they might be the strongest as far as raw talent goes. OPs pre-F1 record of three major titles in successively higher series in consecutive years is unprecedented. Possibly a Max-level talent but way less chaotic. Max just always struck me as insecure. His childhood explains that quite well. I don’t like the guy, but I can’t help feeling bad for him. His Dad is a legit psychopath.

These two are very much brothers and lando has literally been adopted by carlos' whole family. A video to check out of these two is the mclaren muppets video in 2020. It was mclaren way of ending the carlando content and is brilliant. These two were a marketing dream for mclaren and they wholehearted embraced the carlando tag.

great analysis as always Max! they really give off brother energy, obviously feel really comfortable around each other. lando was so young in this interview, can't imagine having that much attention and pressure on you at that age but he seems to take it all in his stride and conducts himself so professionally. hope you check out another interview with twenty one pilots sometime!

Hope you continue to enjoy checking out these f1 drivers. Hopefully you'll check out F1's Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda. Those two are quite the amazing duo. Like always Max, keep it up with your fantastic video. I always look forward to seeing them.

Great analysis! I don't know if you've done it already bc I'm new to your channel, but did you consider doing the Lewis Hamilton/NicoRosberg relationhsip? I think it would be interesting because they were friends and then rivals so maybe there would be differences in the way they communicate?

    Tip:
A lot of European names are not pronounced as they look, so for Carlos, it’s SIGNS not Sainz.
But saying that, some do sound/pronounced the way they are spelt.

    • @magicofshootingstar5825
      @magicofshootingstar5825 Год назад +12

Well, as a northern European, I would say Sainz is pronunciated exactly as it's written eg. pronunciate every letter. 😂
Though in English words are often not said as they are written, so it's true that "signs" is the word you say similarly 🙂

I’m so confused with you because with all the amount of Carlos’s interviews you watched and one of them had someone literally correctly pronounced his last name, you still mispronounce it.

  • @INTJ91
