I think a lot of people are using the v600, but I don't know that many that use silverfast. Yeah I've learned so much from watching other people show their process, It's amazing how fast we can learn these days.
Funny intro - nice work. Yeah, I have a love-hate relationship with my V600 (especially 35mm). Thanks for the tip on the free Silverfast. Curious if you have the same headaches with self-developing Lomo 800 - extreme curling and every other possible issue. Lastly, good to know I'm not the only guy having a bad hair day!
Hahaha, thanks yeah I need a haircut. I don't self develop, but I have not had a hard time with lomo 800, EXCEPT for the lightleak issue on the edges that many people report(120). I think Portra 400 gives me more trouble with curling than lomo. Fuji is the flattest film I have scanned, its crazy how flat it is when I get it back, and this can be just hours after its developed. I'm gonna miss that 400H once its gone.
im curious how you would rate epson v600 (i have also one), to the technique of scanning with camera? I mostly use medium format and the mos important is dynamic range for me. And unfortunately i dont have fuji50R as from you camera scanning video, but maybe mine canon 5d mark II is better than your second cheaper camera on that video.
I really don't like the epson v600, but I don't think it's the right time for me to invest in a mirrorless scanning set up as I don't shoot much film these days. The film prices are far too expensive.

Interesting - usually I would adjust gradation in scanning to get the full range of highlights and low information, creating a very flat image with most information I can get from the scanner / film…usually Silverfast cuts off something.
I've used it a little in the past, but found that I was generally happy blasting through like I did in the video. I will give it another look next time I sit down and do some scanning!
I like scanning with my camera. It requires setup and good quality holders etc. but once you have it set you can just slam through a film. And the results are awesome.
The Silverfast version you are using is not as good as Silverfast AI studio (upgrade costs money). The new version 9 has a few features that really help you organise your photos using Lightroom. You can add key words, film type, camera, and date when you took the photo embedded into the metadata. So when you upload into LR the files can be organised by date. There are many other features like setting preferences to high resolution. Also, the Epson 850 is so much better than the V600. It has better holders (with glass on one side), adjustable feet and slots to fit the holder in place. Also, as mentioned by Nick Carver, you should not include any black border in the scan as this produces a poorer scan (mucks up negafix and the histogram). I really liked your images and using a scanner (as opposed to using DSLR method) as this reduces/eliminates dust and other spots that take a long time to correct. Dust removal for black and white film is done with the other icon as infra-red scan is unusable. I use Photoshop (healing) to remove leftover spots and blemishes from older negatives. Love the shots from Tokyo and you are in a great place to buy used cameras, that's for sure.

Yeah Ive seen some nice results from that method! Maybe someday if I had a space where I could leave things set up.
