I don’t need to repair anything and I genuinely have no business existing near tools but I like it here so I watch all of your videos! Good job, take that mother nature 🌧

I really appreciate that! Thanks to mother nature, and for the fact that I fixed most of the stuff, the insurance payout wound up being the down payment on the Bronco. Always a silver lining in my messed up pots and pans.

@@Bootstrappin since Mother Nature is handing out cars maybe I’ll answer the phone next time she calls! I usually assume she’s calling to dole out the meat sweats but I’ll find that silver lining someday

@@micaelaharrison3830 lol your pun-fu is impressive. And I guess sometimes the lining is of a different color.🧐

@@Bootstrappin you can blame this humor on the fact that I was definitely a dad in a past life. Probably why I am oh so drawn to diy culture too, even though I’d probably combust if I touched a table saw. I’m proud o you though son 👨🏻

@@micaelaharrison3830 thank you for your kind words father! If a may be open for a sec, my DIY journey began with getting yelled at for not holding the flashlight right. That made me very distrustful of myself, but only through proving that wrong was I able to ascend to competency. In other words, things like self-doubt hung over me because someone else put it there. So start small and build up your confidence, maybe fix a squeaky door. And at some point, you won't even be able to imagine potential misfortune anymore. This channel is perfect proof of said journey. My first videos were released under "dumbwrench" (I'm incompetent), then under "bozo does it" (I'm incompetent but mean well"), and now with "bootstrappin" (I'm competently working towards a better circumstance). I believe in you father!

Over the past 10 years I have had 4 full size trees fall in my yard from two neighbors. lucky for me my insurance Co. got me some money because when the trees fell they took out my fence. You did a nice job on rebuilding your fence. The use of the siding from the back of the shed was an excellent move. I spent over 10 grand removing 3 full size trees from my own yard just so I did not have the issue of my trees falling in my neighbors yards. Like you I now have loads of sun in my back yard.

Yeah insurance is weird/borderline scammy. There has to be destruction to something under the policy, which is always going to be more expensive than doing something preventively like you removing the risk altogether. Oh well, here's to sunnier days!

Impressive storm! The holes left by the flying debris are something I've never before seen.
I guess every town has slightly different codes, but I think in most cases the big tree was the neighbors' obligation to clean up. Did they say anything about it? Was surprised to see their crew left it without touching it.
Also, fence laws are (almost) universal across the country - the ugly side, the side with the supports, goes in facing the owners side, with the nicer side facing out - which tells me that fence was your neighbors', too.
They may have lost their biggest shade producer, but I think your neighbors are still plenty shady.
Glad everyone there safe! a storm you'll never forget.

From my experience, anything that falls on your property is your responsibility, even if it belongs to your neighbor. The only exception is negligence - like a rotting tree/branch. As for fences, good looking side facing out is generally good etiquette but usually not a law AFAIK - but that's definitely my fence since it's on all sides of the house. I'm guessing they installed the nice side in because there were already chain link fences on the other side. The yard is a lot sunnier with that tree gone - and the rear neighbor went axe crazy and cut down most of their trees -- now I get to see some sunsets. Some may even call that 'on the bright side...'

You don't nail the flashing to the "header" or you are making places for water to get through. Nail the flashing to the wall, put the waterproof tape over it and then the J channel over that.
