That's because cajons are indeed a drum kit in a box. Heck, I even use mine as a bodhran (same with the back of my guitar).

Electro-acoustic would be a better thing to say, as it is just a normal box, but with the added benefit of being able to plug it in. Mine is acoustic, but it has a snare inside.
(and cats love them too).
