- Ah sequels. While most of us are thrilled when a movie we love gets a sequel, the results have occasionally been very, very bad. In this super-sized version of Jesse Shade's Awfully Good, we take a look at what might be the worst sequels of all time: John Boorman's Exorcist 2: The Heretic, Jaws: The Revenge, and one of the worst movies of last year, Expend4bles. Are they all pure garbage or do they have some redeeming features? We'll dig into it here - and you can let us know in the comments!

I love this compilation of recent Awfully Good Movies videos. Exorcist 2 was bad but hilarious, JAWS 4 was fine & fun, while Expendables 4 was as enjoyable as a root canal.
Since I was 18 years old when Exorcist 2 came out, I thought Linda Blair was the only good part of this movie. She was gorgeous!

"Exorcist II" - Voted by the 1980 "The Golden Turkey Awards" as the worst movie ever made, it had three different endings, each one laughed off the screen by test audiences.
That statement aged even worse now that the Catholic Church is so worried about their ESG score or something.
Beverly Hills Cop 3 is one of the worst sequels in the franchise for a lot of reasons. 1. Don Simpson and Jerry bruckheimer didn’t produce. 2. No Harold faltermeyer music, they got Nile Rodgers from coming to America instead to score and it was horrendous. 3. No taggart, bogomil, and no Jeffrey. 4 and last but not least, the script was horrible and getting John landis to direct and he’s done better than that, and they killed off inspector Todd. I hope the fourth one rights the wrong on the last one we got now that Jerry bruckheimer is back producing and taggart and Jeffrey are back too. I also hope Harold faltermeyer helps with the score even though they’ll get Lorne balfe to score since he helped score the mission impossible movies from 6 to 7 and top gun maverick with Harold faltermeyer and Hans zimmer and bad boys 3.
I actually have always loved Exorcist 2.
Even as a kid I thought John Boorman was a genius
It’s highly rewatchable because of Linda Blair’s beauty and earnestness and the film’s WTF factor.

My aunt is a fan of the Exorcist 2.
For me it was a relief from the original, much scarier (in my opinion) Exorcist film.
I will say this, visually it's amazing.

I really live the fact that The Exorcist II exists because it's such an interesting failure. It's a pretty interesting director doing the completely wrong movie at the exact wrong time. I think some moments from it are good, it's just NOT an exorcist movie.

Renowned German Martial Artist Mike Moeller played Jumbo Shrimp in Expendables 4 who Is a friend of mine on social media and I even told him this Film was a complete waste of his talent he told me that there was a big Fight scene planned and choreographed for his character and Jason Statham and it was cut from the Movie thus just a punch in the face and that was his character dealt with. I really don't know why he agreed to be part of this fiasco of a film a complete waste of his time and Talent he would have been better cast as one of the Expendables but there you go.
He got paid and decided to move on.

''Played by the now teenage Linda Blair.'' -- Hate to tell you, but she was already a teenager several years earlier in the original Exorcist. She was 14 then. She was 18 when she filmed the Exorcist II. I know it makes it more creepy when you say she was 17 in the 2nd film (in relation to the ''love scene''), but she was actually 18 at the time of filming.

Expend4bles is GREAT, the special effects are bad, but the film is exactly how an Expendables movie needed to be. it's fun, bloody, action packed. Exorcist 2 is unique and creative, superior to the prequels and the abomination Believer. Blumhouse's Halloween ''sequels'' are worse than what you claim are bad.
Exorcist 2 was a horrible movie , but Linda Blair was smoking hot in it .

The Exorcist II: Your take is better than the movie!! Is incredible so many good actors were wasted in this…movie.
Ok..not including Caddyshack 2 is either: 1) a huge oversight or 2) proof that i have successfully willed this movie completely out of existence!!!!! (editors note: i hope its #2).
Don't believe the hype. Exorcist 2 is a misunderstood classic.
There's no such thing as "superhero fatigue". People are CLEARLY AND LOUDLY saying what it actually is = WOKISM FATIGUE / "girl boss fatigue" / unnecessary DEI fatigue/ hypocrisy fatigue, etc.

Some you just leave alone. There are rare exceptions...like Halloween 🎃. Even with that one, the reboot was enough and that was it.
Robocop 3, Highlander 2, Caddyshack 2 and I'll just say every Matrix sequel are the Mount Rushmore of garbage sequels. They're not fun or interesting, they suck and they're boring.

Exorcist 3 is NOT that good a movie. I rewatched it recently and it was pretty boring if I'm being honest. Bunch of scenes of people sitting around tables talking. As far as I'm concerned, The Exorcist has NO good sequels.

I'm pretty sure Highlander II is the worst sequel of all time. At the time, I thought there was really only one possible way to have a sequel to Highlander, and that was to go sci-fi and imply that "there can be only one" per planet - so MacLeod was the finalist of earth and the next round would be him versus other immortal champions who had won "the prize" on their own worlds and also gone forward to "the finals."
Lame, I know, but imho it's the only way a sequel would've made sense, and at least there would've been some scope for an interesting set of next-level adversaries, and some Douglas Adams type explanation for it all, i.e. that it's all just gladiatorial entertainment for the amusement of some immortal race of aliens, like the way the Greek gods would have their sport with mortals.
And when I saw the sci-fi looking posters go up for Highlander II, and the "Planet Zeist" nonsense at the beginning, for a moment I honestly thought I'd predicted it correctly. But no, it was so much worse than than the daftness I had imagined.
The real question is which Highlander sequel is worse? Highlander 2 (any version) or Highlander The Source? My vote is for Highlander The Source because Highlander 2 at least is so bad it's good but the Source is so bad it goes pass good and then back to bad again! PLUS I can forgive a horrible mistake like Highlander 2 if they actually learned from their mistakes but they obviously didn't! Otherwise we would have never gotten the Source! They knew better and made it anyway! There can be only one!
Whatever happened to doing a single movie, instead of of remakes or a 3 parter.
I watched THE CREATOR last week. A enjoyable 1 off movie.
It's pronounced Co-co-mo. At least that's what I saw on the screen.
The best sequel ever made was Godfather 2, which won Best Picture Oscar. Godfather 1 , won Best Picture Oscar.

The worst sequel ever made (in comparison to the quality of the original) is The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue. The original is one of the best animated movies ever produced. The sequel is a cynical, direct-to-video, bad-Sunday-morning-cartoon-garbage, no-thought-or-inspiration-went-into-it, flat, tepid, "kids'll-watch-anything," grandpa-and-grandma-fooling, stinky pile of crap. I have spoken.
I agree with your assessments of EXORCIST II and JAWS 4 and their placement on your list as 1st and 2nd worst sequels ever made. But in order to merit polacement on that list the original film needs to be good in order to show how bad the sequel is by comparison.
THE EXPENDABLES was never more than a very derivitive action movie to begin with so how can any of its sequels shine as being significantly worse?
My vote for the third member in this awful triumvirate is DEATH WISH 3. And I would probably elevate it higher than the JAWS sequel. The first DEATH WISH was berated by critics for being exploitatvie but enjoyed by audiences neverthelass and for the same reason. There was and still is a market for revenge thrillers and DEATH WISH was one of the first to cash in on it.
And the first movie has a very simple plot. Thugs kill Paul Kersey's wife and rape his daughter leaving her in a mentally vegetative state. So he goes on a rampage and outside the law to get revenge.
In the next sequel however our credulity is stretched quite a bit when Kersey, newly relocated to San Francisco has basically the same thing happen to him by thugs who rape and kill his daughter now along with his maid. So he goes on a rampafge again.
And if they had left it at that it might have still worked . But they made a 3rd DEATH WISH using the same main character having the same things happen to him once again. And only thing that changes is it happens also to a friend in another city And they end up taking on every bad guy in the country (who apparently network (or perhaps they are recruited by Hedley Lamarr). Whatever they all show up in the same town for the ultimate showdown between them and Kersey. And in this showdown Kersey and his pal walk down the center of town with their six guns with every bad guy imaginable hiding in the buildings shooting at them. Yet Kersey and his pal win!!! How can this not be at least in the conversation for worst sequel ever?

American Graffiti is not a masterpiece like Jaws or the Exorcist but its a pretty good movie and that sequel.... i personally think its the worst sequel ever, its so bad!!!
I don't mind More American Graffiti. Has its moments.
American Graffiti is great. Even in a recent interview, Lucas said it was probably one of his best.

I enjoyed Wakanda Forever more than most of the 100s of films I’ve seen. Clearly taste in film is subjective.
I usually like your content, and I can take a joke as I'm not one of the offended brigade. But was it really necessary to make so many alcohol jokes regarding Burton? Alcohol dependency is nothing to laugh about at least 10 times! Once would have sufficed.
