What Happened to Looper?

- Time travel movies are tricky things to pull off. You want the science in your story to make a certain amount of sense, but you don’t want to put so much effort into your timelines that you start to confound the audience. If the tale being told is compelling enough, the viewer won’t feel the need to pick apart every single detail. When it comes to “Looper,” a terrific example of the time travel genre, director Rian Johnson said he didn’t want the audience to feel like they were doing homework. Johnson got it just right, since “Looper” works on its own terms, doesn’t condescend to the viewer, and uses the time travel conceit as a clothesline upon which it hangs the really important things, like its characters and the drama they’re tangled up in.
The clock is ticking and we’re going to try to get through this before someone closes all of our loops, so join us as we find out WTF Happened to “Looper”.

This is Bruce Willis's last best film and he gave a underrated performance
Frr
It's a shame that Johnson didn't put as much care into the narrative flow of The Last Jedi as he did with Looper, Brick and Knives Out...
Love this movie! One of the best Sci-fi films of the 2000s.
I just rewatched this. Fun time even on a rewatch.
I'd say 2012 was Bruce Willis' last good year: Moonlight Kingdom, Expendables 2 and Looper
I really like this movie .
Cant stand this film - such a waste of an excellent concept.
Spoiler warning

The time-travel paradox just doesn't work. The event that created the rain maker only happened because the protagonist came back in time to avert the event that created the rain maker. In the original timeline, there was never a reason to travel back in time, so the rain maker never arose and the events of the movie had no starting point so didn't happen.
I took it as everything that happened was predetermined up until JoGoLev takes himself out of the equation. Prior to this he is selfish, self centered, self absorbed, etc. But he has a change of heart. So his sacrifice is the wildcard allowing for a new timeline. Different from the original timeline, though both are paradoxes affected by time travel.
Rian Johnson is ridiculously overrated, but this movie was great. What he did with SW is a sacreligious act. And his netflix who dun it shows are more pretentious twattle than anything else
The kid was annoying so I’ve never watched it again
Yeah I didn’t like him either
I've always liked Looper.
It's kept some of the same issues we have today (drugs, gun violence, organized crime, etc) and added just enough sci-fi for the future to seem not entirely implausible.
The storyline/plot is interesting and the actors played their roles so very well. Pretty damn good movie imo.
Actors complaining about having to sit quietly in a dentist's chair for a few hours, while makeup is applied and they are getting paid millions is the height of entitlement.
I know you’re eager to virtue signal anything but that’s not the complaint. If the call sheet as you ready to shoot at 9 am for example, that means that you have to be there at least at 6 am. And after that you still have a 12/14 hour day ahead. It’s part of the job but when you’re the only one that as to do it of the all cast it gets old pretty fast.
Facts-never complain about paycheck and know exactly what to look for accepting a role.

Oh no! Not a 12-14 hour day job where several hours are spent sitting around at various times of the day. I know it’s not as easy peasy people make it out to be, but I would love to see these whiny actors work as a machinist for 35+ years on their feet for 12 hours a day plus hours of travel time getting to and from job. My dad worked himself literally to death via stroke. Highly-payed actors, while proven hard workers at their craft (perhaps), still don’t hold a candle to go your average, underpaid, working class person.
That title now is single handedly held by Amandla Stenbeeg!
Loved Looper, underrated IMO
One of the last truly great Bruce Willis movies along with Red and Moonrise Kingdom
RED was the $hit!!! Malky stole that movie 👍🏽 #Pig
It's sad that we more than likely won't get Bruce Willis movies anymore due to his illness. 2 years ago.he was diagnosed with aphasia. His family just announced it's progressed to a more serious condition, frontotemporal dementia. I'm really tired of the worst $hit happening to the nicest, unselfish, humblest people. And grimey, low-down dirty $hitbags get away with everything.
In retrospect, he was getting very ill.
This movie is really polarizing. Either people love it or hate it. I personally loved it upon initially seeing it, but admit there was some confusion on my end. I’ve watched it a few times since and inevitably caught on to some details I didn’t quite catch originally. It’s not perfect, but in altogether I feel it’s a solid film. If you’re into Philip K. Dick novels and/or a fan of Rian’s early films then I would definitely give it a chance.
When I saw Looper for the first time, I walked out of the theater, looked at the clear sky and the full moon and decided then and there, that I'm gonna be a filmmaker. I produced shorts ever since and am working on a pilot right now. That film was awesome.
Congrats!
Thought the same thing when I saw clerks for the first time. It didn’t spark my interest in film. That was always there. But the movie made it seem like it was actually possible. Too bad I was more interested in poon and pot to really pursue it but what I did do was write a full on screenplay as my final project for my creative writing class. It was a legit script and the teacher flipped out saying it was like the coolest thing a student had ever done. I was 15. And wrote a movie.
The RUclips channel? 🤔😏😂
To quote Jean Claude Van Johnson... "Time Cop is way better than Looper"
Hang on--you mean to tell me that someone thought that aging JGL to look like he was in his 60s was WORSE than deciding to give him an Alec-Baldwin-in-The-Shadow type prosthetic nose?
If actually observe Looper, you will notice it is a noir film disguised as time travel film
If ur gonna put a merch plug in a random place in the video. At least make it lower volume than the speaker.
When you refer to a 5 yr old as an adolescent you should stop making videos.
Rian Johnson should give up the idea of making more Star Wars movies and focus on original content instead
He should stick to neo-noir - which he is great at - and avoid anything remotely sci-fi because it's clearly not his forte. He has a serious lack of imagination in the SF realm and should stay far away from it.
He made the best Star Wars film, a trilogy of Mistery films and whodunnit hit tv show... His only IP film is SW. So I don't get the opinion
Grow up, manbaby. Go to therapy
@@georgeabrahams4076SW fans are just uneducated manchildren.
@georgeabrahams4076 "the best"? To who?
One of the most underrated films of our kast decade!! ❤
Bruce Willis as the villain was genius.
Shout out to Looper to adding a _Oppressor mk II_ from GTA
I loved the line where he wants to vacation or retire in Paris, and Jeff Daniels says, listen, I'm from the future....don't go to Paris....haha
Good movie, but Emily Blunt ruins it.
😂meh
Looper was a great world, setting and lore, but a lackluster movie. Could have been an amazing TV show
Thank you Aphex Twin
Is this about 113 takes chopped and pasted to the point of a blizzard of verba BS
Last Jedi is a complete shit show that I don’t even consider canon at this point. Assclown single handedly destroyed the whole franchise with those couple of hours of incomprehensible BS. As far as most fans are concerned, the Solos have three children and Luke’s wife is Mara Jade. That is the only proper canon for the first six films.
Also in 2012 JGL had Premium Rush, which is also underrated.
I've always liked the approach to guns in that future society. You only had the 6 shooter revolver and the Blunderbuss. And that was enough.
While I consider Looper a bit overrated, it's a very stylish movie. NOT a case of too many cooks in the kitchen with this one. 👍
This is the type of content that I am subscribed to your channel for.
JGL really doesn't have the build as a younger Bruce.
Rian Johnson should go back to flippin burgers.
I thought this was about the channel, with its MOjo--type listicles.
Face it, getting Willis signed up got this movie made. The fact that his character is married and living in China is also not a script coincidence.
It isn't Tibadoe. It's Thib-a-day-ux-s.
Looper gave Bruce Wiliis Parkinsons
I loved the relationship of EB and JL
Please do WTF happened to Monkeybone
Overrated film just like the director.
You talk weird...no one talks like this
The last performance worth watching from Bruce Willis came in this film.
can you do wtf happened to fred the movie?
Who shall break the unholy number
Emily Blunt is so incredible.
Looper...kinda stunk
To me this is the last great Bruce Willis movie
Johnson went on to ruin Star Wars
I love this movie!redeemed Bruce Willis in my eyes&put Joseph Gordon Lovett on my radar as a great actor!
I’d love to see a sequel
Hello Everyone!
How the F did Rian make this masterpiece and the dog poo that was Last Jedi?
Looper was Gemini man before Gemini man was a shitty film with bad casting of will smith in the part of both the old and young hitman character. Looper was a masterpiece from Rian Johnson, Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon levitt, and Emily blunt. It was the closest we got to a terminator movie and Gemini man.
And then he killed Star Wars...
❤😂 Maybe he Should get John Cusack and make another Movie Together 😅😊. Make a Better Identity 😜 or Maybe Say Anything 😀
And then he shit all over Star wars
Bruce Willis is the man
this was the last "good" film we got from him
Its no terminator. And rotten tomatoes is untrustable.
Brick (2005) is really good.
Dano:”gimme a role! Gimmie a role!”
Great movie.
I always thought this movie was “MEH” at best and thought the concept of the time travel mechanic was weak and unjustified. I’d basically forgotten about it until this video.
One of the dumbest time travel movies I have ever seen. The premise was idiotic and not in a single timeline did the antagonist even exist, making the plot collapse on itself and rather pointless. Johnson said in an interview his approach to writing time travel was a linear approach, which I'm sure competent sci-fi authors would laugh their asses off at.
🤡
Boy you must be fun at parties…
What do you even mean by “what happened to Looper?
It came out in 2012. Is that a long time for you people? 😑🤦♂️
I can't give any single as to why, but I effing love this movie. I watch it every time I see it on. I can't something new every time.
Back when people thought Rian Johnson would deliver a great Star Wars film, they pointed to Looper. With hindsight, it is a mediocre, overhyped film, with a stupid premise.
It’s one of Bruce’s last good movies along with expendables 2, red 2 and GI Joe 2.
Don’t call Oppenheimer an epic 🥱
1 of the best movies ever, whatcha mean what happened to it??
Boy, if only he’d taken that kind of time to write episode 8, maybe it wouldn’t have been quite the dumpster fire that it is.
