I absolutely agree with you. On another videos comment section, the commenter commented (sorry for the redundancy 🤣) about never thinking they would be addicted to something like this. It's so true, with all the hate and negativity available for us to click on even, it's so wonderful to find wholesome fun. I love watching them smile and laugh, while stepping out of their comfort zones, to experience new things, and to spread their joy with others. Whenever I'm feeling down about myself, whenever I'm feeling out of touch, I turn on Tribal People Try. It helps me put life into perspective, it teaches me to enjoy laughter, to enjoy the little things we all take for granted, it teaches me to enjoy discovery, and gifting their findings to the rest of us. Love these folks so much

The rice is just normal steamed/boiled rice. The sauce is called Dal, very common throughout the Indian subcontinent, you can find many recipes and videos about it, so you can easily make the dish without waiting for their specific recipe, which they might now give. After all it's like a tomato sauce in that region of the world, everyone has their own way of doing it following a few basic ingredients and principles.

    • @pietrayday9915
      @pietrayday9915 2 года назад +2

I'm not familiar with this dishy, but the Dal is apparently a curried lentil sauce, with tomatoes and green chilis and onions - red lentils seem to be a primary ingredient. If you don't have any of the traditional spices and herbs available, they're basically the sort of thing sold mixed together in ordinary US grocery stores as curry powder and garam masala, and garlic and ginger also seem to be part of the flavor. It sounds like one of the versions in the video had shredded chicken mixed in as well, which sounds to me like a fantastic addition to me. I think chickpeas were mentioned a couple times as well - I've cooked before dried green lentils together with canned chickpeas and onions in a wok, seasoned with curry powder and garam masala, ladled onto rice, and that really is delicious, and I'm sure chickpeas would go just as well with the other ingredients, but they don't seem to e strictly needed. I take it from the video that the taste profile should be relatively subtle and mild, but I like the spices, and the curried lentil and chickpea sauce I invented before got a lot of heat from the garam masala, so I loved it, but I guess it depends on one's taste! Whatever the case, it seems to be a pretty easy sauce to make, and one that really lends itself well to some individuality and invention.

    Basic/Easy Daal(Lentils) Recipe
    Ingredients:
Orange dehusked lentil (Masoor daal) 1 cup
Yellow dehusked mong lentil (Mong daal) 1/2 cup
Mix lentils wash and soak in water for half an hour
Red chilli powder (1 tea spoon)
Turmeric powder (1 1/2 tea spoon)
    One tomato cut in half
    Ginger Garlic paste 2 teaspoon
    Salt to taste
    Method:
In a pot put soaked lentils and 3 cups of water
and all ingredients mentioned above and let it boil until it gets soft ( whatever the consistency u want its up to you , u can add water if u like soupie consistency)
Note: You can use pressure cooker or instant pot to soften lentils.
    Next step Tarka:
When lentils get boiled completely next step is to add tarka on the top
For that take a pan add half cup oil put chopped garlic , chopped green chillies and two teaspoon cumin seed and as it crackles add this over the boiled lentils
Daal (lentils) is ready to eat , u can have it with boil rice or have it like a soup or with bread (roti)
Believe me guys do try this it’s super easy and only two steps no need to add so much ingredients.... i am not in favor of adding too many herbs it kills flavor of lentils.. make it simple .. enjoy
Thats my mom’s recipe and i will definitely make it on my channel too

I was thinking more along the lines of Westerners rating non-Western recipes. Or if you prefer, examining cultural differences in tastes and unique palates. But this is most likely beyond the scope of this podcast.
BTW - Many NON-Western ethnic cuisines are extremely popular here in the U.S. Personally, I’m a long time customer of Kalustyan’s in Manhattan, and have been frequenting the Kabab King restaurant in Queens for years. The owner is a Pakistani immigrant and the waitstaff primarily from Bangladesh.
I will admit, however, that Americans are extremely lacking in foreign language skills, and many don’t see the value in learning a second language. Most likely, and I am only speculating here, it is because English has been adopted as the language of international business. I am fluent in Spanish and English.
Oddly, and perhaps MOST curious though, as an increasingly higher percentage of Americans become interested in cultural traditions other than their own, the phenomenon of cultural appropriation has sprung up which seeks to prevent this trend, rather than encourage it, which I find both maddening and sad.
