Is it just me thinking he pulled that hook on purpose. He just kept pulling into the snag harder and harder instead of walking it down stream.
I’d literally avoid fishing with you ever again if you refused to give my rod back , then proceeded to rip the fish deeper into a snag causing a break off. I can’t believe I just watched you do that.

I grew up in Texas and Louisiana. Finding a spot like this, a center choke point with a deep pool just on the downstream side, eddies on both sides, riprap, and trees for shade was like finding Shangri-La.

This is just the craziest thing to me. I have never seen people try to catch gar. We always tried our best to avoid those nasty, slimy, tackle destroyers, lol.

Dude that was an incredible fast hookup... as for losing it in the rocks... _IT HAPPENS_! But y'all were there and y'all had fun and that's the one immutable rule in fishing: you WILL have fun, whether you like it or not. 😎 It's funny, whenever you mention turtles I have to muse about how back home you can keep common snappers with a fishing license... one summer me and my buddy Jeff were blessed with a never-ending stream of turtle bites, so we decided that we were going to keep the next turtle we caught. So guess what? LOL that was in like 2011, and neither one of us have hooked a snapping turtle since! Little bastards must have heard us and spread the word... lol...

I’m going to have to take a ride south!! We have long nose gar here in central Virginia but there’s a huge difference in a 3’ long nose and a gator gar that I can only imagine! Another epic trip!
If you let the fish back out of the snag you could've landed it. What a waste. Experience would have landed that fish. Patience is learned by mistakes.
