My tip 3 Non-fiction books are: 1. Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer 2. Beyond the wand by Tom Felton 3. Gathering Moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer Top 3 Fiction books: 1. Yellowface 2. Babel 3. Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler
I loved Three Hours! If you want something less panicky, but similar themes along with family sagas abs switched timelines, I’d really recommend The Beauty of Your Face by Sahar Mustafah x
I read Three Hours over Christmas in 2020 and I so vividly remember the experience of reading it and being completely hooked! I don’t know anyone who’s read it so it’s great to see it getting some love from you here. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to read a thriller.
I only just read Babel last month (on audio) and it blew me away, I’m not a big fantasy reader but this was so much more and accessible. I struggle to describe it but you have summed it up perfectly 😊
the Cazalet Chronicles are so beautiful all stacked together like that, I saw them in the bookshop the other week and told myself I’ll go back for them later in 2024 when I’ve got my TBR down a bit. I’m reading Babel at the moment and hoping to finish today, so good! happy new year! ♥️
I loved your favorite books….you made me buy the Cazolet books❤❤ and I read and enjoyed Yellowface. I have Babel on Audible ready to go. Happy New Year to you David and Daphne from Orlando FL😊
Absolutely agree with number one! The best books I’ve read in ages. I’m just about to go onto the 5th book, I can’t put them down, I intended to read a few Christmas books in between but just couldn’t stop reading these. Thankyou for such a wonderful recommendation! Wishing you both a very happy new year xxx
Happy New Year! 🎉 I hope to read The Cazalet Chronicles, Babel and Yellowface this year. I bought them partly because of your reviews of the books. 😊 Among all the books I read 2023 The Appeal and The Christmas Appeal by Janice Hallett were thanks to you and David promoting them. 😉 My favorite book read in 2023 was The Impatient by Djaïli Amadou Amal. It's a short book that packs a lot of punch. I still think of it from time to time. I really recommend it. You get to follow three different women who gets married off in Cameroon. You follow them separately and find out how they feel about love and the 'forced' marriage.
Happy New Year! Not overly related to the video but something for another video maybe: how do you decide which books to borrow from the library and which to use audible for (if you still use it).
Happy New Year. I think The Other Bennet Sister is probably my favourite book of 2023 to be honest. My aim for 2024 is to read less and enjoy more. Too often, I buy a book or get one from the library that I don't particularly like just because I want something to read. So, I'd rather have times when I am not reading anything than struggle with a book I am not enjoying
Happy New Year! Have made a resolution to read at least one book per month off my shelves rather than reading new books as I get them. Should hopefully read everything I currently own by my 137th birthday!
I listened to the first 200 pages of Babel on audiobook and never continued with it. The question to everyone who has finished it is, should I stick with it?
I read "The Cazalet Chronicles" two years ago and I loved them sooooo much!!!I've also read and enjoyed "After Julius" by the same author. Happy New Year Lauren and David!!!!
I haven't read any of them but I do own Yellowface and recently bought I'm A Fan because honestly you didn't stop talking about it all year. You convinced me. 😂
Babel was on my best books of last year. Great list! I bought the first Cazalet chronicles in October as my friend @AaronReadABook loves them as much as you and they were also his best book of the year this year 💛 can't wait to get stuck in to those! Happy New Year 🎉xx
I picked up The Memory of Animals on your recommendation and it’s definitely among my favourites of the year. I’m so glad you reviewed it as I don’t think I’d have picked it up otherwise. My favourite fiction book this year though was Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell (bloody love Maggie O’Farrell)
My favourite book this year was How High We Go in the Dark, which was a sci-fi, weird short (but linked) stories collection. I love weird books. Also loved a couple of mangas about cats - the only mangas I've ever read - called Cat+Gamer and A Man and His Cat. Very wholesome and cute! For non-fiction I LOVED Reach for the Stars, which is about Brit Pop in the mid nineties to the mid noughties, which is exactly MY era, and the music I loved growing up
Here's me thinking we had the same taste in books and then not being interested in reading any of your best books... Guess I'm here for the colours, fun and great personality! I won't leave and will probably still watch all your content, but my own taste surprised me 😂
If you want to read more Caroline O'Donoghue I really recommend All our hidden gifts! It's the first book in her YA trilogy and it's very similar vibes to Her majesties royal coven!
Hi Lauren, happy new year! If you loved The Racehl Incident, you may not know that the author, Caroline O'Donaghue has a podcast called Sentimental Garbage which I think you'd really enjoy! Episodes on the spice girls and all things nostalgic etc! :) xx
If you loved ‘Three hours’ she also wrote ‘sister’ (don’t think it was as good but still a very good read, just different!) But you MUST read ‘Fierce Kingdom’ by Gin Phillips, had my heart in my mouth the whole time, could not put it down! X
I feel personally attacked (lol) with the strictly comment as I have had convos with my boyfriend about not wanting to watch Strictly because certain pros don't get partners or the right pairs don't win especially after this year's series which irked me to no end. He keeps telling me, "don't watch the show if it upsets you!" A boyfriend should never bring logic into a discussion. I'm a Fan and House of Doors are my only five star books this year. I adored both of them. I want to read the Cazalet books.

Very much want to read the Cazalet chronicles now!
your energy is infectious! glad to be a new subscriber in 2024 🥰

Happy New Year Lauren. I just finished I’m A Fan for my first book of 2024 and I Loved it!!! I picked it up because of you.

Love to see I’m A Fan so high up 👏 It definitely deserved to be shortlisted!

I loved the Other Bennet Sister
Loved idol burning, just finished it last week. Great picks.
Best wishes for the new year 🎉
Lauren, thanks so much for your content this year❤ I’ve enjoyed it so much and I really trust your recommendations so will be buying a few of these :)
Happy New Year! Have made a resolution to read at least one book per month off my shelves rather than reading new books as I get them. Should hopefully read everything I currently own by my 137th birthday!
Happy New Year!! 🎉 You look beautiful! I love your hair bow! I hope you and David had a great holiday season. ❤
Yellowface and Tx3 made it into my top 10 too! I loved Idol,Burning too!
The Memory of Animals is high on the TBR!
Happy new Year.
And my favorite book this year is Death of an Avid reader by Francis Brody. Just what I needed at the beginning of the year.
I listened to the first 200 pages of Babel on audiobook and never continued with it. The question to everyone who has finished it is, should I stick with it?

I have Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow and The Memory of Animals on my TBR. I think these need to be my first reads of the new year!
Lovely list. ❤
Happy New Year to you both 🥂🍾
I loved: Demon Copperhead, in Memoriam, hello beautiful and the bandit queens this year
Happy new year I dnfed babel and tomorrow x3 I enjoyed 3 hours
Some of my favourite books of 2023 include Hotline, Dear Committee Members, Delilah Green Doesn't Care, and A New Season by Terry Fallis.
🎉happy new year
I placed Babel on the wish list.

Happy New Year Lauren & David 🎉❤🍀☘️🤩🥳
Best book of 2023
Deluge by Stephen Markley
Hi Lauren, happy new year! If you loved The Racehl Incident, you may not know that the author, Caroline O'Donaghue has a podcast called Sentimental Garbage which I think you'd really enjoy! Episodes on the spice girls and all things nostalgic etc! :) xx
Thank you for this, I did not know and I think I will love!

Exactly the same top three choices as me 😂
I bought Three Hours but ended up giving it away as Dunblane is too close to home and too visceral a memory for me
I feel personally attacked (lol) with the strictly comment as I have had convos with my boyfriend about not wanting to watch Strictly because certain pros don't get partners or the right pairs don't win especially after this year's series which irked me to no end.
