ice cream salt can, *not always but frequently*, have a little dirt in it is usually the same as sidewalk salt (not de-icer - the stuff labelled as salt). You'd have to read the packages really well to tell. But great to keep in the car in winter for icy patches. If you gently squeeze a bag of coffee and sniff at the vent you can tell if it's stale, I only buy whole coffee beans and keep them frozen until I'm ready for a pot.
