I have a full on patio garden now. I teaching myself how to grow veg from seed. Only what I know I will eat. Next season I plan on adding to it. I discovered how much I enjoy doing it and learning new skills at the same time. I am in a condo so my space is limited. I also converted a closet into a pantry. I also cleared shelves off of items and am using them as storage. You can easily darken an open shelf by tacking up a dark strip of fabric at the top and it acts as a curtain. Keep on stocking!
No apples this year because the early frost got the blossoms. I built an eight foot tall, four foot square chicken wire cage for a yellow transparent apple tree I planted to keep the deer and rabbits away from it. Tomatoes are doing good, not ripe yet, about the size of a golf ball. Had a forest fire a couple mile East of here a month ago. Getting lots of bluegills out of pond nearby, using wax worms. Kind regards from Michigan.
I thought about planting some darwf fruit trees and building a cattle panel hoop house over them to protect from the late frost and critters. I only have 2 tomatoes plants survive but getting sandwich size tomatoes.
Another good thing I am learning is how to properly ration what I have to make the most of it. I started reading books about the Depression and Rationing during WW2.
A starvation ration has a negative effect on the mind and body. It may be better to fast for 3+ days then eat regular for 3 days instead of rationing food. Check out fasting videos. it has some positive effects. That's my plan if i have to ration.
@@buzzard-roosthomesteadandp3097 Oh no, I am not using starvation rations. Just using the basic ideas to be able to use everything more efficiently. Using substitutions, for example, making breads without yeast using potatoes, stretching meat recipes and so on.
I have guinea hogs. A small historic breed that's very laid back and easy to handle. Good around children. Slow growing and at 2 years weigh from 150 to 300 lbs.
The big problem here (N. Ga. mtns) is deer. They'll eat up your sweet taters, okra, and most anything they can get their mouth on. I've been laying off 'em a couple of years, but this Fall I plan on plenty of backstrap and biscuits.
Good to visit again , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thumbs up. 👍

you are ahead of most people. keep up the fantastic job you are doing. Hopefully you have a place to go if it ever got really bad.
Under the bed is a good space for the long term storage. 3 of my beds are setting on food.

Large black are laid back and they are excellent pasture pig
I hate gophers! They ate my tators and my corn! They pulled the corn down into the ground!
I need a gopher dog lol
