Very nice performance, and inspiring! It makes me want to study this suite on the electric fretless bass. Thank you so much for all the great material you produce and share online, it’s priceless
Thank you! This movement is deceptively difficult, with patches of technical challenges all around. The music itself is straightforward and simple, but getting it to speak requires the player to deal with a lot of technical issues, all of which benefit the player by virtue of striving to overcome them. I'll be trying to refine my performance of some of these technical issues as long as I draw breath.
Gorgeous sound, lovely phrasing and pacing! Love your performances of the parts of the solo cello suites you have posted so far. It's quite an accomplishment to get these pieces to speak playing arco, much less pizzicato...Keep posting these, please-and...thank you!
Thanks for listening and weighing in! I just gave a presentation 2 days ago at the ISB convention about this series, and everyone was very positive. I also saw a number of Bach presentations from classical bassists who are taking various forms of liberties with the arrangements and was very impressed with some of the possibilities they offered without sacrificing the music!
Thank you for this! Maybe it is worth another video to explain the "technical" compromises/adjustments that are necessary to play this piece in the written key.
Thank you so much for doing this. The sound is just beautiful, and I find videos very inspiring. Is the Courante score available someplace on your website? I don't see it under the Bachrilege playlist.
Sorry - apparently i meant to add that one and didn't get around to it. Here's a PDF of the suites - I didn't write down the changes i played here, but they will be pretty easily apparent, I think: www.dropbox.com/s/9l3gda0rte2rbhb/Cello%20suites%20PDF.pdf?dl=0
@Chris Fitzgerald Thanks Chris! I'm finding that learning these is a great project for us semi-quarantined bassists, and a great doorway into classical music for bass.

That's on the to-do list!

Thank you! You can find a score on this page under the "Bachrilege" window : chrisfitzgeraldmusic.com/videos/educational-videos/
Oops! I apparently forgot to add it. I'll try to make it a point to add it soon.
