    When neither PSY nor Jay Park have been able to handle her, it is clear that she either creates her own company or has little future since I doubt many companies want such a problematic singer, if she wants to do her artistic music, she can put her own money and see what happens.

      Not showing up to music shows is crazy. She's lucky it was Jay Parks label. Other labels would of immediately drop and sue her. They protected her instead.
      If she doesn't create her own label and pulls this at another, I don't think she'll be as lucky.

    It's sad because she keeps saying she wants to establish her own agency but can't seem to push thru. It makes you think what kind of "connections" she was able to make in her 18 long years in the industry. Take Hyolyn & CL for example, two of the 2nd gen divas that were able to established their own companies because they were able to assemble their perfect team, who are, I would assume people they've met in the industry. Yes, their comebacks are not as frequent or as "successful" in terms of today's standards but the fact that they're still able to run their own label & release music is commendable. Isn't Jessi close with Hyolyn? She should ask for advice if she really wants to push her "Own Label" agenda.

      Exactly, the fact that Jessi has no connections and no one to guide her and truly wants to work with her makes me question her attitude behind the scenes. For example, look at Jennie her managers both left YG, THE YG ENTERTAINEMENT to work with her on her new company. It shows that no matter what they trust her to be successful and are happy to work with her. Hyolyn as well. Psy also left with all his team from YG. Imo plp that she's surrounded with don't seem to trust her or have much faith in her when it comes to managing her career.

      @@missethio7394 Of course Jay’s haters gonna be saying that or it’s those toxic fans of Jessi’s who just be worshiping her blindly. I got no hate for Jessi, if anything, I use to like her so I cared less about the rumors before but now if anything I’m starting to think there may be some truth to it. Since you know, no smoke starts without a fire. There’s nothing wrong with thinking about and prioritizing yourself but in the real world especially in businesses, at times you gotta learn to compromise cause not everything is about you. So with her given personality and how she can come off extra, it’s just not surprising to find out that people or any company can’t work with her (at least on the long run.) And mind you this is Korea we are talking about too, where the cultural mindset and mannerisms are more conservative for her so that being said she just isn’t suited to work with anyone. I’m sure companies, people and even she herself are aware about that so I highly doubt any company/anyone wanna work with her and vice versa, especially now.
      I don’t know much about her previous company but I do a lot about Jay, his work ethics and his company. His actually widely known and respected in the industry for being a lot more generous lenient transparent compared to other label CEOs, not to mention his good work ethics amongst many artists and people including civilians and for her to not be satisfied there? Just means she the issue since she’s so unsatisfied. She’s like unsatisfied with anyone, anywhere and anything. So at this point just work/do things alone on your own since that just seems like the best (and only) option for everybody including herself which then perhaps she can finally be satisfied.

      Let me clarify further, I wish Jessi the best, and I hope she's able to overcome the challenges in her career so that she can continue to make music. My only concern is that if she had the ability to do it on her own, wouldn't she have done that already? Secondly, the companies/people she's already worked with are major people in the industry, I can only assume how many doors shut when she stopped working with them. Some people may see her behavior as biting the hand that feeds her, which never looks good in any context but especially in the entertainment industry where success is often directly correlated to who you know and who you are working with to make the overall dream happen. My comment regarding Jay is that he's been on both sides of the situation in his career, up and down in many ways, I would assume if anyone could understand or work with Jessi it would be him. My guess is really this, perhaps what others see as marketable and in Jessi's best interest is no longer the music she wants to make or the image she wants to represent. Which is totally fair, but it is a lot harder to make that change when you're constantly having to start over from nothing.

    She's basically the cardi b of korea; both are difficult and make subpar music but people eat it up and forgive their problematic behaviour because they're "fun" & "down-to-earth". It's like this, her american personality trips her up in Korea, and her korean personality won't really gain her any advantage in US. The best she could do is make her own company and take part both in her country and international, and i'm not only talking america cuz they aren't the only fucking country, that's one of the biggest fucked up things i've observed in Korea, y'all really think America is "THE" bomb, no... there's a whole world out there.

Seems like she may have been lashing out due to things not going her way & being so young, not realizing how your words can affect your career a decade later. Using violence as a form of control over others or even her own life. The good thing is, people can change & grow into better people. Hopefully she learned that being nasty or violent towards others doesn't signal strength, but a very deep rooted weakness. I'm rooting for her & I hope she's a better person overall now.

It does seem like she's very very picky with her music & wants things to go her way, which makes sense bc it's her music! Her name is on the song, she sings or raps the song, so she had a right to express any concerns she had to make it better or different. I hate it when people are too quick to comment on a person's life because of others' opinions from what they see or hear; no matter what, we can never know exactly what happened; stories could be different from every side. If truths can be difficult to uncover even in courts or call for investigations then how can one conclude from very little said by each party. Jessi had gone through a lot just in her youth in different agencies and was restricted to one for more than 6 years, she never wanted to return to entertainment until Psy convinced her a lot. So, idk but to me, for someone who had gone through that, bae, please take control...leave whatever agency you want to! You're the one paying if you had to cancel the contract, right? Good! so do you. If it doesn't work out how you intended it to, get up, figure out why, leave the room and try another door! You were not betrothed to any agency at birth. Even if you were, you didn't ask for it. Take action and deal with the outcome; nobody is living the life for you! If you have to suffer and cry in your room no one is going to see you, its just you and your God so, that green light Psy gave you go and never stop its your way!

      I love this comment. Idk why people keep giving opinions like they're living with Jessi 24/7 and know her inside out. Abt her keep changing record label, I don't think it's an issue. My brother in law used to change office like 3 to 4 times a year coz he is trying to find the one that suits him best, and nothing wrong with that. Just because Jessi is a public figure doesn't mean that all her opinions, decisions and etc. needs to be controlled by the netizen. Poor Jessi 🥹

It’s like she’s just unsatisfied with everyone, everything and every place. So at this point she should just work alone do things on her own since that seems like the best and only option for everyone including herself and maybe then she’ll finally be satisfied as well.

One they’re friends and two he has so many artist under him and the only time we really even get music from them is when they all collaborate together. Her wanting full autonomy shouldn’t be a surprise considering how her older labels portrayed her and basically set the tone for her career. You can’t even find any of her old music unless a fan reuploaded the video. 😢 The music industry isn’t perfect.

It did Mark Tuan great I like his solo songs and he seems happy releasing the type of music he wanted and success will come as long as he continues to flex his production muscles. I don't know what's holding her back but being a solo artists without an established label with a well oiled machine for pr, writers, creative directors and all the whole nine yards is quite frightening.

      I don’t understand genuinely happy that someone actually called her out it’s kind of sad it makes me feel that she has lost her way when it comes to being a nice person!
      P nation that PSY tried to work with her and he gave interviews as well as Jessi did! When somebody has a very headstrong controlling type personality they don’t see any options other than their own and they feel that they’re the only one in the room and their thoughts their ideas and their wants and needs are more important than anybody else’s I know I was married to one of those people!
      Jessi is from America the United States and she still has that same thought process and Ways as an American.
      She may have been in the business here in South Korea for 18 years but still she hasn’t learned how to work well with others and how to be able to give-and-take that’s just like in any type of business relationship or relationships in general between two people! She will never be able to have her own agency because she has to employ other people hairstylist and makeup artist set designers , etc. he also is going to need a management team those that are going to be able to book the concerts and events from one other countries that she may be going into, hotel arrangements food arrangements transportation arrangements back-and-forth from the concert to the hotel room etc. she doesn’t think this is gonna cost a lot of money if she does it her way she’s got a big wide eyed opening of how really things are done in the music business specially in South Korea! It’s twice as hard for her as a woman in South Korea to have her own business ! And I’m sorry to say because of the conservative, misogynistic and anti-feminism movement that is in South Korea it’s going to be a problem for her especially if she’s dealing with men who don’t know her and don’t respect her! She’s gonna end up going back to the United States and it’s her own fault!

    I have liked Jessi over the years and she has put out some good stuff, however this last release "Gum" felt like a chewed up piece of gum of all her previous songs combined. She didn't bring anything new to the table. There was really nothing creative. Same beat, same sound, same repetitive type of lyrics, same, same, same. I got halfway into the song and just turned it off. She has her own style which is appreciated, but when you keep recycling it over and over it gets tiresome. I wish her the best in whatever she chooses to do, and hope that she will be able to express more of her own creative style to her music to let her fans see different sides of herself. Record Labels rely on investors to stay afloat on top of what artists put out and the profit from that. Investors won't invest if you have a reputation as being difficult, especially if she wants to start her own company. She has to show a track record of good business relationships with investors and artists to bring in the money it takes to run your own label. She has a lot to think about while she is between labels.

  • @Jae..9..
    @Jae..9.. 10 месяцев назад +28

    Jessi plays the blame game for her lack of success. It’s always the labels or someone else’s fault. And I’m sure her reputation as being difficult doesn’t help her . Nor does it help when she disparages groups or artists who have had more success than her. I’ve watched previous interviews with her and other artists, and she’s passive aggressive, low-key, and sometimes outright rude to other artists. Some people defend her behavior as just Jessi being Jessi, and even praise her for it. But if her past is any indicator, I think she’s got more problems to worry about rather than her creative freedom.

    • @rin55
      @rin55 10 месяцев назад +4

      The only thing I disagree on, is the lack of success. She did incredibly well for herself, made so much money, her songs were viral hits. She could even kick back and relax from now on. Psy promoted her incredibly well. She benefited from being under him immensely.
      She can be really disrespectful and I generally don't like her very much, but I can see why her personality would be popular among Koreans, especially women, who find Korean society very stifling. Jessi just comes in like a wrecking ball and turns any social environment she is in upside down.
      She is a lose cannon though, ans I don't see many wanting to work with her.

    Jessi is an icon. New Jersey is where the majority of New York rappers, and other American music artists live. It’s a beautiful state, varied in regions, but it’s an East Coast state that shares multiple borders with New York. Including New York City. She’s hustling to thrive in her career in a very xenophobic industry. I love KPOP. I’m a middle aged professor in the states and have been studying kpop since I was introduced to HOT in high school from one of my Korean classmates. I hate watching all these you tube videos that criticize artists over the most ridiculous rumors and or speculation. Jessi isn’t ignorant. She’s embracing her Korean ethnicity while bringing American flavor to her music. Give her a break and let’s support idols, as they all work their hardest to thrive in a hyper critical industry.
    If kpop is seeking to thrive globally, as an outsider there are so many trite and harmful actions that really creates tension to like or not like an artist based off of propaganda from videos like this.
    And I enjoy this channel frequently, but I’m noticing the content isn’t very kind, helpful or raising awareness for idols beyond slandering an artist’s career. Life is hard. Let’s not make life harder for anyone anymore. She is not problematic, she’s just considered an outsider since she was born in the states. Give Jessi a break and let her talent fly. She’s already endured so much criticism I can’t imagine how she continues to try to make music because she loves making good music as a soloist. I feel exhausted for her! Give her a break…no one bothers Heechul or the SuJu old men and they get away with everything with far less talent than Jessi. Please think more critically about the factors surrounding Jessi that make it much harder as a non-native Korean woman to thrive in the kpop industry.

    To be fair the music she does want to make is good. I like her old stuff a lot, but like the video said it really isn’t profitable to a business since R&B isn’t as popular in Korea as it is with Western audiences. Especially American. I think Jessi might still be too American for mainstream Korean audiences, so they have to give her “catchier” songs to make money. I really just think she’s wants to be her own artist, but is too immature to realize that her music career hasn’t made enough profit to push songs that aren’t going to be widely accepted by Knetizens. She needs to realize most people like her persona over her music and her music isn’t really what attracts people to her. She’s a good artist, but that’s about it. Which is completely okay, but it means that she doesn’t understand the work it takes to run a successful business. At the end of the day business is about money and her heartfelt songs don’t turn a profit as much as her popular songs. We see this a lot with Korean artists because the music industry is much more calculated than say Canada. I think she just needs to sign to a western label at this point

      What did she “go through”?
      Being disrespectful, completely disregarding the business side of things, being a literal abuser…There is never an excuse for that.

      Its unhinged to be a k-pop idol in the first place. Its a sick industry and you cant even be a real artist...its a choice and most people make that choice because of money and attention. They are so fake...Jessi might not be fake but has other issues.

    If all of this are true then Jessi will never be happy at all and needs to grow up. Jumping from one company to another is already bad plus her "my way or the highway" approach will only work if she was a boss of her own company but since she is an employee she needs to compromise.

      The USA doesn't have that big of an opportunity like some people seem to think and bias. How many famous Asian musicians or actresses do you know of here?

      @@Ifaeya There arent many asians in the US who try to be musicians in the first place. Those migrant kids are told to become lawyers or doctors and everything creative is rarely appreciated or supported in asian families. Asians can make it like anyone else. The US has asian comedians, actors etc. ...to make it in the music industry, you need to step over bodies though. Hollyweird is demonic.

    I like Jessie and I think she's a talented artist. But it does seem like some there's some kind of cultural appropriation along the lines. In all honestly, as long as she's not showing any form of disrespect towards* black culture, I don't see any problem with her. And as far as her past bullying, I just hope she acknowledged what she did and apologized. (Edited for typos)

    Honestly, it's her life so idc. The only issue I'd have is if she starts to blame others for her choices, which I don't think she will. I think she has a lot of goals that are not being met at the pace she wants. which is fine and understandable, let her cook tbvh.

    I love this channel but saying BoA was from Girls Generation is wildly inaccurate and make me question the rest of the video

    • @kookielit
      @kookielit  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hi, thank you for your comment, but this seems to be a misunderstanding. We didn't say that BoA was a member of Girls' Generation. We mentioned three people/celebrities in this order: Girls' Generation, BoA and Daniel Henny - the full sentence was "Jessi is seen saying the n-word and using homophobic slurs to refer to Girls' Generation, BoA and Daniel Henny."
      Hopefully this helps to clarify the situation :)

    I think the real issue is that Jessi doesn’t really know what she wants career wise. She said Psy was too controlling which I think can be very stifling for artists, but she also said Jay was giving her too much freedom, like she still needed a bit of a push. She is great at variety programs, she is naturally funny and entertaining, we also get to see her caring, generous personality. But those can also get formulaic. What Jessi has said for several years now is that she wants to get married and have children, this is her deepest wish and desire, more than her career. I think because this is not happening she is sad, lonely, depressed and floundering. She is not really seizing opportunities because she is unhappy in her personal life. Instead of judging someone as difficult, we should be having compassion for someone who is in a cutthroat industry that is based on making money not caring for the artists well being. It’s sick how they expect them to churn out content day after day, they don’t even get a chance to breathe. We as fans need to be less judgmental and obsessed and allow artists to live as humans. Let’s be real we don’t know how dirty that industry really is, we only hear rumors about the rampant misogyny and sexism women have to face in that field, and most of us probably would not be able to handle it. She is trying to be strong and powerful in the face of all that, calling her difficult cuz she won’t conform to problematic societal norms is unjust.

      Yea so since she’s so unsatisfied with everything and everywhere she goes, she can just work alone on her own which seems like it’s the best and only option for everyone including herself.

    I think the fact that Jessi is so polarizing works to her advantage. Her English skills, her willingness to act, certain personality traits she displays work in her favor during this current era. I dont think Jessi is going away unless something tragic happens. That being said, I don't wish anything bad on her.

    Jessi needs to face the reality and just go back to her roots and what I mean by go back to her roots I mean america, I know she wants to be a kpop idol the when it comes to her style of music to the Korean public it's just not their style, if she wants to release these type of songs I think she probably should go sign to an American record label because the West is the only place where people will appreciate her music and probably be able to release the kind of style of music she wants, her biggest fan base is in the states so I think she should go start their from scratch I'm pretty sure there's a bunch of artists who want to work with her there.

    Unsubscribed. This channel is so biased from most of the videos ive seen from yall. Why do yall bring up stuff from a persons past thats over 10+ years ago to justify ur claim? Like shes a different person from who she was. Shes changed through the years, it would make sense if it was recent things that shes done but anything over 10 years is just reaching.
    For a kpop news channel, maybe stop being so biased and just report the info.

    The music industry's current landscape has shifted in favor of independent artists, enabling them to flourish without the backing of a record label. The late Prince's successful establishment of his label serves as a prominent example of this trend toward artist independence. Additionally, the accessibility of media production has empowered individuals to create and operate their channels without formal journalism or broadcasting credentials. However, this has also led to the potential spread of nonfactual information, presenting a challenge, especially on platforms like RUclips, which lack regulatory constraints seen in traditional television content. I fully support Jessi's decision to pursue R&B music, as she is a determined and outspoken individual who seeks to integrate her artistic vision into her work.
