I’ve never seen that release aid you use either what a great idea!

The fish descender is a life saver :) www.amazon.ca/SeaQualizer-Deep-Water-Release-100-200-300ft/dp/B072BFXFWF
Any time you are fishing for fish over depths of 40 ft, you should be using these to make sure they safely get back down to the depths. Pick up a few 10oz weights from your favourite fishing tackle store and you're good to go.
      Enjoy!

100% those fish died. Terrible fish handling. Best to get back right away if you can. The surface temps are way to warm for those fish. Not only that they are belly up meaning they didn't burp all their air and are experiencing barotrauma. Even well your talking and the fish are just sitting in the net boat side is hurting them. I know you guys mean well but I would definetly try to be quicker with the releases.

Thank you for your concern. I agree - it's important that sport fishermen are quick with releases and handle fish properly. When the fish fight for a while, it's important to have them rest in the net to regain their strength. That's why I have the large net - it acts as an aquarium. Both fish were safely returned to the depths. Lastly, we use a fish descender with 20 oz of weight to help the fish make it back down. It's rare to have a fish die on us with the system we have unless it's gilled by mistake.
