I saw this movie as a kid with my Dad. We've always been fans of WWII movies and original motion picture soundtracks. My Dad passed away three years ago and I always get emotional when I hear this. A beautiful arrangement.
One day I'm going to play this all the way from Leopoldsburg to Nijmegen. My great uncle was in the Green Howards 6th battalion 50th Tyne Tees division XXX Corps and died on 15.11.44 in Nijmegen.
Green Howards - fine regiment, good on your great uncle. I have a Jeep and I love playing this music, as it reminds me of James Caan zooming around in his Jeep avoiding German bullets in a Bridge too Far.
I am thankful for men like him and my father who served in WWII for liberating Europe and allowing us to live as free men. When I hear this song I think of my dad.
And to think the composer actually took part in Operation Market Garden .Hits the mood of expectation ,early exultation then the sadness at its climax . A Fantastic score and this rendition magnificent .
Went to the 60 anniversary events of operation Market Garden in 2004 in Oosterbeek near Arnhem and had a Veteran cry in front of me and all I could was give him a big hug and say these guys will never be forgotten.
Amen. Tears in my eyes as I listen. Even though things went belly up, let's not forget the gallantry and guts of all the allied forces involved in Operation Market Garden.
Americans will always respect the gallant fight of their British cousins.....THE RED DEVILS!!!! We will always love GREAT BRITAIN and we will always be there anywhere in the world shoulder to shoulder...all 340 million of US!!!
This is how the national anthem is meant to be played, as a rousing military march by a band. Not warbled off-key by some pop singer who doesn't have the vocal range for the song.
Joseph E. Levine presents A Bridge Too Far. Based on Cornelius Ryan's international best seller. The story of the most dramatic and devastating battle of World War 2. A Bridge Too Far. Starring Dirk Bogarde, James Caan, Michael Caine, Sean Connery, Edward Fox, Elliott Gould, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Hardy Kruger, Laurence Olivier, Ryan O'Neal, Robert Redford, Maximilian Schell, Liv Ullmann.
We played a version of this tune in The City Of Hull Youth Brass Band. It was probably a simplified version and not quite as good as this , but I think the original Film version must have been played by an orchestra rather than a Brass Band because I’m sure there are string instruments 🎻 in it and not just brass🎺 and wind 💨 🎷 instruments in it, I’m sure?
My all-time favorite war movie!!! The theme offers so much hope to ending the war and being home by Christmas. If OpM-G had done that, the Soviets would not have had much of Eastern Europe in their clutches for 40+ years.
Wow! Proper great fist pumping stuff....!! Makes you proud for those that were there and those that tried so hard to liberate Nazi occupied Europe! God bless all of them, whichever side they fought on.
Wind band of the Dutch Railways -- Sadly this allied campaign was unsuccessful and was followed by the "Starving Times" in the Netherlands. I don't know about the Dutch, but few Americans, other than myself, are aware of the "Starving Times". Thank goodness all of the combatants on both sides are now friends and at peace.
American here….Canada ended the starving times when they liberated the Netherlands. As with American cemeteries in Netherlands, the Dutch have never forgotten and remain grateful to Canada. In Ottawa is a garden near parliament filled with tulips…which the have exported to Canada as a gift since WWII. They also adopt US soldiers graves…most in the care of the same family…since WWII. T Dutch will never forget those who gave all for their liberation. As far as I know they are the only nation in Europe that does this. Amazing 🇺🇸🇳🇱🇨🇦🇬🇧
???? God bless the musicians here....but the "Windband of the Dutch Railways????" There's more than one railroad in the Netherlands?????? I'm a huge rail fan here in the US and I'm not aware that BNSF, or Union Pacific, or Norfolk Southern, or CSX, or Kansas City Southern, or Canadian Pacific, or Canadian National has their own orchestra, or even a collective one between them all....still, an outstanding soundtrack from an outstanding movie......well done! PS: Amtrak doesn't count; they just get in the way of REAL trains, and outside of the NE corridor, they mooch trackage on the PRIVATELY owned rails by the real railroads
The Lehigh Valley had a band when railroads were in their heyday. Business attitudes and comradery have changed; the bands and the Lehigh itself are no longer exist.
Played rather too quickly and without sufficient majesty, I'm afraid. Respects to all British, American, Polish and other nationalities who fought during Operation Market Garden. If only it had succeeded, how many lives would have been saved!
The united states is pulling forward to the bridge. The germans army has no idea. The u.s. Army pulls in and attacks. The british then pull in and fire there stems and then the germans fire but the U.S. is defeated because they tried to end the war by christmas and this was in the netherlands and comanderd by as and waffles officers. The point was to try to end the war by christmas. This battle was in 1944. I am 11 years old and im very smart because im not stupid.
Yes they wanted to end the war by Christmas, but this would have been desired by the Dutch as well. This was a British led campaign that was uncharacteristically chancy. Much praise is warranted by the soldiers who fought and died, along with Dutch patriots, in the attempt to make the flawed plan succeed
I was in the 82nd Airborne Division when this movie came out. C co 1/325 Red Falcons Ft. Bragg, N.C. 21YRS OLD.

Greetings , I grew up watching WW2 movies aswell with my Father all the best for you and your family.
Same, I watch this movie with my dad but he's passed away
Im sorry for our both losses.
Sry for yo loss bro
I had a very similar experience with you. I used to go watch war movies with my dad in the 70's. I also got emotional whenever I hear this.

As a British man, I am extremely proud with the whole operation’s participants.

I don’t get tired of listening to one of the best orchestration ever made.
Hearing this as a canadian gives me pride and makes me think of my reanactment.
Josh Shaffer lol it’s a movie song boi
This was the best part of the whole film, the theme.
One of the best military tunes ever !! ☺️
Hearing this as an American sends chills down my spine! Great job!
Hearing this as a Brit gives me the same feeling!
very proud of the fighting men of the American and British Forces and other Forces on the Allied Side....
Amen. Tears in my eyes as I listen. Even though things went belly up, let's not forget the gallantry and guts of all the allied forces involved in Operation Market Garden.

Best war movie theme ever
Brings out the goosebumps.
@ASHTRED OJJO P. LOPEZ goose flesh?? Lifts the hair on your arms?? Feel the hair in the back of your neck rise??
Respect for the battle of Arnhem
To those who disliked this song, we do not have the facilities to take you all prisoner.

I am in tears listening to this.
from a brit thank you so much !
its my favorite soundtrack .it reminded me of my father watching this movie together when I was young.
A classic military movie score. Right up there with Patton, The Great Escape & The Devil’s Brigade.
The bridge on the river Kwai was right up there with those.
BEAUTIFUL !
very nice! I love that movie, thank you for this performance, really great!!!!!
One of the best performances I heard
Excellent performance.
Presumably an amateur band, but migod they give it heart. Apart from the movie soundtrack theme, this is my favourite version.
Sounds just like the original!
Still love the movie.

Vert well done! Thanks : )
I would love our High School's 185 member marching band to do this in competition one year.
The composer was actually in the advance to Arnhem with 30 Corps
Toda una gran marcha en ser recordada por siempre.

I can ever watch this film enough times great music and action. But it's a real gear jerker.

I'm American, but know about the terrible time our Dutch friends had during the winter of '44-'45. God bless all who suffered.

Can you provide the arrangement information? Looking for this particular scoring for concert band.
