Okay so for some added context in case anyone here isn't big on Fate. That teacher is Taiga Fujimura. Who is Shirou's guardian and like a big sister to him. She looked after him when he was growing up and was around a lot because she had a crush on his adopted dad Kiritsugu. I feel framing him giving up Saber to save "a teacher" is a little disingenuous even if the Abridged series doesn't bring her up. That is still his family.

Actually, Archer never achieved his dream of saving everyone.
As a Counter Guardian Archer was forced to kill a lot of people, regardless of guilt or innocence, in order to save worlds. Basically, a Counter Guardian is the nuclear option for saving worlds.

    • @ApplesGhost

I still maintain his most interesting manifestation is in fate/extella, where he's popped into a really, REALLY divergent timeline, fails to save that timeline because he was up against a literal god-killing alien menace and simply didn't have the right qualities, got shoved into ANOTHER really, really divergent set of timelines, where he fails to save them at least a dozen times, then finally after one of those timelines runs its natural course and reverts itself, he finally kind of explains the total shitshow he's been through, vaguely conscious of what's been happening that entire time.
That version of him is at peace with his lot in life and kind of regrets fucking up, making it kind of personal to him. It makes his route in fate/extra, which is sort of a prequel to fate/extella, kind of tragic, since if you play that one and you play his route, you kind of know that you're playing a doomed timeline, which is a shame because in fate/extra he basically gets everything he ever wanted.

      Agreed.
Though that in the anime, i think that Shirou would be capable to rescue Taiga without surrender Saber, as she was being levitated, than be in Caster's arms like in the visual novel, to the point that Saber was capable to attack the witch without put in jeopardize Taiga, and while she was busy avoiding Saber's attacks, Shirou and Rin would took advantage from this chance to fully rescue Taiga, saving her and avoiding has to sacrifice Saber to Caster.

  • @sauravsaha7465
    @sauravsaha7465 10 месяцев назад +2

In each of the three routes of the VN he grows to overcome his survivor's guilt to some extent and makes peace with his past and chooses a path for his future:
    - In Fate he falls in love with Artoria and eventually acknowledges that he deeply regrets what happened 10 years ago, but he also decides that trying to alter the past to undo his regrets isn't right (both because that rejects the present and because it insults the loss and sacrifices that led to the present day world IIRC). This inspires Artoria to give up her quest for the grail and ascend to Avalon in death and Shirou doubles down on pursuing his impossible ideal becoming "a hero that can save everyone" because looking at Artoria's life shows him the beauty of pursuing an impossible ideal even if you ultimately fail it doesn't render the things you did in the pursuit of the ideal meaningless.
    - In UBW he falls in love with Rin and is faced with the path his current life is leading to thanks to Archer. Eventually, he acknowledges that he simply inherited this dream because he sought to feel the way Kiritsugu felt when he rescued Shirou from the fire and not because this was ideal he aspired to in the first place. In the end of UBW, he decides that he will pursue this ideal because it is worth pursuing (it is beautiful) even if it is destined to fail. He also has Rin by his side to make sure he is up to snuff and to ensure that he doesn't go too far.
    - In Heaven's Feel he falls in love with Sakura and is forced to choose between saving her and saving everybody. Eventually, he chooses to save her, giving up on his borrowed ideal in pursuit of making Sakura happy. Here he chooses that saving Sakura from her torment takes priority over his promise to Kiritsugu. Here he is saved by Illya's sacrifice and lives with Sakura and Rider with Rin dropping by often.
There were many interpretations of Shirou's growth in the three routes back when the VN became popular in the West. One of the most popular but highly misleading one being that Fate's Shirou has the mindset of a boy, UBW's Shirou that of a teenager and HF's Shirou that of a man. This interpretation misses out on the character growth that Shirou undergoes in Fate and UBW and overestimates the growth he undergoes in HF.
In all three routes Shirou is faced with the practical difficulties in trying to "save everyone" and has to acknowledge that it is driven by his failure to help anyone in the Fuyuki fire and his admiration for how Kiritsugu looked like he was saved when he rescued Shirou. Basically, Shirou is seeking salvation through saving others because he wishes to feel what Kiritsugu felt when he saved Shirou. And his survivor's guilt keeps him from ever seeing value in his own life. Across all three routes Shirou chooses an course of his future based on what he values in life rather than reaching for what Kiritsugu felt in the past. He places some value in his life now, but that seems to be driven by the notion that the people he cares for place value in his life. Shirou didn't get "fixed" in a span of two weeks and is still a work in progress. Hell, it can be argued that Shirou is at his most selfish in Fate as he wishes to pursue an impossible ideal in the hope to be reunited with his love for all eternity. So, that is a massive amount of character growth for him.

And an Isekai hero grinding EXP!
I can't say anything regarding your opinion on the most GOATED abridged series as I haven't seen them all or even this one in full, but i will say I can appreciate dedication in writing and understanding your source material.
TFS could be argued to be the GOAT of abridged series, but they took liberties with a lot of thier SM and I respect most of their choices.
Though I would honestly give the award to SAO abridged or Goblin Slayer.
SAO for polishing a turd into literal gold.
Goblin Slayer for completely changing the genre of the series into a comedy but not actually changing anything else in the story for the most part.
See you on the 9th day!

Bland? Shirou is an amazing character and hero.
He likes fixing things and archery, but he also cooks and is very kind. While a 'lawful good' character, he is one of the least judgmental characters out there to others - other people writing lawful good could learn a lot from Shirou. Compared to a lot of other heroes, Shioru is one of the most interesting and complex out there. Watching Shirou grow and change through the three routes is a wonderful and fascinating experience that I love to revisit. Or, well, UBW and HF anyway.

While in the visual novel its understable that Shirou had to surrender Saber, as Caster had Taiga literally in her arms, making impossible to fights the witch without harm Taiga.
In the anime, Shirou was illogical, rash and stupid for surrender Saber, because in this occasion, Taiga was being levitated by Caster, than be in her arms, leaving the Witch exposed to be attacked. Adding that even the brief moment in that Saber was attacking Caster, the magic strings on Taiga were loosing, showing that Saber can attack without put in jeopardize Taiga in the anime.
But the idiot of Shirou, instead to took advantage from the quick attack of Saber to fully rescue Taiga while Caster was busy, Shirou chose to used his Command Spell to stopped Saber, leaving her defenseless to Caster, and allowing the witch to enslaves her, leading to many problems for everybody. Especially for the poor Saber, who was brutally tortured by Caster's Command Spell, tied and forced to be in a very unconfortable posture, forced to wears a poisoned wedding dress that was harming her, and deprived from a proper mana supply, food and sleep, all this during days. All because Shirou.

12:10 Which is ironic because in the proper UBW route, he doesn't have a single proper win, other then against Archer, and even then a lot of people would argue whatever is a win or not.
I would say that i prefer the constant losing for Shirou, it forces him to just learn from his error, to understand why his ideals are failing him, and why he is failing. It's why the moment he summons UBW on this route, it's such a great moment even if it doesn't lead to a W, because it's Shirou showing everything that he has learn about himself.
I would argue, that i prefer the Fate route to the Heaven's Feel route, the Heaven's Feel route, in my opinion, it's the worse route of FST, because it doesn't feel organic, it doesn't feel like Shirou learn stuff, and grew, i would argue he became a different version of Archer, which isn't shown to be healthy, a machine that only wants to save Sakura. And the true ending feels totally tone deaf, with the just "good ending", feeling appropiate, which is sad because it's tragic as sh*t, but it's the one that makes sense with how the route was written.
Compare to the Fate Route, i feel like it does the inverse of UBW, where UBW is about Shirou learning about what it means to follow his ideals, and how to apply it more realistically, the Fate route is more about understanding why he wants to follow those ideals, what he saw and lived through that made him want to follow them.
Finally i think i have imply pretty well why i love the UBW route, and why do i think, it's the best route of the Fate Franchise... Also fun fact, it contains the only heroine that doesn't try to kill Shirou in the whole route. How do you ask when she tried to do so in the school? Well you see, the thing is that, she didn't, the curse she was using, hit stronger on unliving material then living one, it gives you a very strong flu, if it hits you. How strong? Strong enough to put a Shirou boosted healing by Avalon in a bad situation enough that he had to skip school a few days, and Rin used those moments he was first hit to just take out his command seal, brainwash him into forgetting about the Holy Grail War, Saber and her, and then proceed to watch him from a far to be sure that he forgot everything when he recover from the flu.
