- Shadow and I go Rockhounding in Southern Utah on the edge of the Beaver Dam Wash National Conservation Area for Agates and Jaspers and whatever else we may find. We discovered a new site, for us, that has big seam agates and agates/jaspers formed in basalt boulders. It is definitely a location worth returning to and searching further. And while I was busy rockhounding, Shadow was busy chasing rabbits. Don't worry. He never catches them!
This area off of Bull Dog Pass is known for being mineral rich. The nearby Apex Mine produced 7,000 metric tons of copper and 180,000 troy ounces of silver, as well as lead and some gold. Knowing this was a mineral rich area, we stopped the truck and picked a spot that turned out to be a good one. We look forward to returning and searching more for agates, jaspers, chalcedony, and I'm thinking perhaps azurite and malachite. Keep an eye out for a sequel on this video and we do plan to return to that location.
Please feel free to leave comments with your thoughts or any corrections to something you feel I may have gotten wrong. I am an amateur rockhound and learn much from your comments.

What a great adventure all put on video for us to enjoy and share with you guys! Thank you!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love this! Regarding joshua trees… I grew up in a portion of the Mojave where they were very common. I think they are beautiful-especially if you find a thick grouping.
I agree! There is just something about Joshua Trees. Something magical!
Super cool place and video! I liked watching shadow chase the rabbit, he’s too cool 😎
Shadow is determined to catch ‘em, but the rabbits are too fast for him! Lol. Thank for watching and commenting!
Happy New Year to Lance and all the Subscribers.
You found another spot that's uninhabited and so very scenic. There are so many agates and jaspers for us to view.
Thanks for another beautiful and informative video at the edge of the Mohave with the smaller Joshua trees.
Great to hear from you Andrea! That spot is really amazing. I went back there again and found even bigger agates. I took a hammer and chisel as well. That video will publish this coming Friday. I think k you’ll enjoy it. Thanks as always for watching and commenting!
fun vid! I have a big ol mastiff, when she sees cows she looks at me very uneasy like "dude those dogs are massive, im not used to being the small one" haha
Hahaha! That’s funny. Dogs are the best. We humans can learn a lot from them. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Lol Shadow bounds like a deer 😂
Hahaha! That is a good description.
You’re gonna need to take a front loader up there!
Hahaha! At least a bigger hammer! Lol
nice spot! I go rockhounding over there all the time and have only found sandstone and gneiss. I usually just look on the surface so that red jasper/chalcedony you found in the basalt was an eye opener for me. I guess I gotta start smashing
Thanks for watching! I’ve wondered all over that general area and can tell you that it changes a lot. Most of the area is just as you described, sandstone, gneiss, some basalt, etc. but certain specific area have some really nice chalcedony, agates and jaspers. Just keep wondering! Lol. Thanks for commenting!
up above gunlock ive found gorgeous agates with nice banding. lots of jasper and hematite jasper as well. its up between gunlock and veyo. Ill have to head over to the nevada side some more, ive camped over there a bunch its a nice area@@adventuresofshadowdog
It's the predators you can't see, like rattlesnakes. Shadow be careful. Yeah a mountain lion killed my beautiful dog in Colorado ten years ago. Love you Diamond girl!
I am so sorry to hear that about your beautiful dog. So so sorry. Thank you for sharing that and I will keep a close eye on Shadow. A mountain lion is my biggest concern, for both of us. As for rattlers, although I worry, I have trained shadow to avoid them and he gets his annual rattle snake vaccine. I do my best to balance keeping him safe and letting him do what he loves best - running around, exploring, and chasing rabbits! Again, thanks for the comment. And for what it’s worth, I believe you will have Diamond by your side again. I really do.
Wow this id awesome Its all snowed in where i live thank you for providing me with a feeling of rockhounding! I want to make rockhounding content but im limited to tool reviews lol
Shadow and I are truly lucky to live in an area where it rarely snows so we can Rockhound year around. I’ve never made jewelry and would love to learn how. I just watched your “Teaching My Friemd Lapidary” video and look forward to watching more.
I was researching some spots and with all the metamorphic activity I was hoping to find garnets out there. I found an article saying you can find them down by the wash, I’m going to go check it out soon. Have you ever found any near there?
I have not, but it makes sense there may be some in the wash as it is chocked full of a variety of material washed down from many miles further up. I’ve been wanting to go to the Wah Wah mountains that have Garnett. Have you tried there?
@@adventuresofshadowdog not yet! it's only a two hour drive from us that might be a thing for the future, thanks for the tip!
