    Ian Thorpe is a master

Pretty much. But not all of the modern swimmers are as physically gifted as Thorpe. The fact that they even come close shows you something.

    Thorpe's best 200 free time: 1:44.06.
    Phelp's best 200 free time: 1:42.96.
    Not quite...

Thorpe had good turns for his period in time, yes. But in comparison to now, he would get crushed off the walls. He would catch back up during the straight away, and get blown away on the wall again. Also, Agnel is not a valid example. Agnel is a freak physically (6'9" tall). He doesn't need huge turns, because his speed in the pool is faster than anybody that has ever swam the 200 free (other than possibly Biedermann).

My applications for swimming are Sun Yang's crawling-beat kick and Thorpe's flip turn.
I couldn't be able to use thorpe's swimming technique in 400-800 because it suggests powerful kicking with high amplitude fluctuations, which I don't own. however I imitate his flip turn quite similarly

Still faster than Thorpe. Plus, Phelps' suit was really not that "super." The speedo suits were pretty tame compared to the Arenas or Jakeds. I would say Phelps' suit offered him barely more of an advantage than Thorpe's.

At least current swimmers couldn't have swum 200m under 1.44.06 of Thorpe but Yannick Agnel :D

1.43.86 is more exact for the best of phelps, which was totally without support of super suits

Never learn a turn or a start from somebody that isn't American.

thorpe's turn was so smooth and effective at least when he was in peak. more importantly, it is more suitable to learners or amateur swimmers. You couldn't learn phelps's or lochte's if you are not a good butterflyer with narrow hip and so flexible ankles. Yannick Agnel on London has proved that he just needed 7m push after each of turns instead of 13m push in order to smoke the rest of the race .as well as. breaking phelps's record in texture by 0.72

I agree with you. powerful kicks from thorpe's foot were awesome.
