It's wild to see all of these old comments back from when this video came out, over 11 years ago. It's...been a ride since then. I didn't grow up with fighting games, and only got into them in 2017. Still, Street Fighter IV is one of the most iconic and influential games of the fighting game scene. (And give the original theme a listen--it slaps)
I bought my Street Fighter IV Collector's Edition for Playstation 3 this morning. One word: phenomenal! First off, the game is gorgeous. The character and stage art are stunning. The gameplay is sweet. Capcom delivers once again; did anyone doubt they would? I bought Tatsunoko vs. Capcom (import) for the Wii about a month ago; it is also awesome. I told my family not to bother me for about a week and my cellphone and house phone are unavailable, HAHA! Gonna be playing some Street Fighter! YES!
This is one of the best reviews I have ever seen from IGN. I look forward to using Fei Long. At first the game looked weird to me but it has come a long way since then. Now I just need to get a better controller for it.
I'm glad your enjoying it. My ps3 is broke and been in the shop for the last 2 weeks and I'm excepting it back tomorrow and can't wait to play some more street fighter lol.
@MrKingKoopah dude calm down. Unless you've got an arcade joystick, the controls take time getting used to. Hit the training mode, turn CPU on and just practice with a bunch of characters for a while. That's how I got used to it.
@garder14 start with 2, alpha series and SF3, then this. that will help you get started very easily if you start on SF4 as a newcomer to the series, youre gonna have problems with the games. the best thing is to see how it all began.
ive never played a street fighter game, but when i was young i played some tekken and i realy liked it, im not that amazing at games but this looks awsome, should i get it or is it too hard? i might get infamous if no this but i need an opinion, ohhh and does this game ever get boring quickely?
one of the most appealing concept in tekken 6BR....is the wide customization wer u can dress up ur character from head to toe just like a doll...for those hardcore tekken player well surely amazed of the changes when they dress up their character coz of the quality of graphics......
This is possibly the best fighting game ever made. I have been playing fighting games since Karate Champ from the 80's. It is really THAT good. There are some great games to beat though: Virtua Fighter 5, Soul Calibur IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Dead or Alive 4, Mortal Kombat vs. DCU, Capcom vs. SNK 2, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Samurai Shodown IV, Tekken 5: DR and SSBB. Graphics, gameplay, presentation, and replay value get a perfect 10. Awesome animation and stages too.
BigHw09, to answer your question id be happy to give you some insight from a gamers point of view. When i first bought this game i honestly hated it. The reason being was because i never really played any of the old street fighters. Once i got used to the controls and got decent at the game i loved it. There is many challenges and trials in the game not to mention a wonderful online mode and ranking system that will keep you entertained. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy fighters.
Well, most of the original 16 fighters were based on stereotypes, from appearances to popular culture and people themselves so there's that. Japan doesn't give a damn. While I'm open for more black characters, I might as well piss my pants and be extremely hurt that there's no proper nordic character in Street Fighter / other fighting game.
I suggest getting SSFIITHDR or SSFII HF just to practice. Once you get the hang of 1-3 characters, SFIV is a piece of cake. I wish they put in Dee Jay though, I hated T.Hawk.
Bought this a bit ago now and I think it is fantastic, I have every character except for Seth and the onlne is brilliant. A must buy for anyone who wants the best fighting game of this generation so far.
Hey I got a question. It is possible to you and your enemy get hit at the same time and both get damage but is it possible that you can actually tie the game?
are the basic of sf4 like marvel vs capcom 2 because I just got marvel vs capcom 2 and am still getting used to it and I don't know if I'm ready to take on another fighter if it's different
IT IS A MUST for every one, who liked Street Fighter 2 or every SF game wich came out after SF2!! Great game... But for a lots of people its to hard do play online!!! there are english and japanese voices, your choise to set it up in the options of the game.
yes it ABSOLUTELY does matter if you want to pull off moves and move around correctly. the main problem is not the the xbox buttons (not really) but the d-pad. i speak for every fighting game gamer when i say that xbox controller is not meant for d-pad fighting games. if you still don't believe me, check out ALL past reviews for d-pad fighters and they all with say something around the lines of: "...although i prefer the PS controller better..." i'm not a fanboy if your assuming that.
I like them too, but I just hope that it's in either English dubbed or English subbed. I want to know the Street Fighter story since it's often overlooked and dont't want to have to learn a new language.
The controls in this game really piss me off at times. Pisses me of when I try to do a crouch block and I just crouch and get hit, when I try to do a special attack and I end up jumping up, and that it's a pain in the ass to do some ultras and supers like guile's and vega's.
it's all preference at this point. the two are too different, but have awesome gameplay. i like both, i really can't say which is better. once i get bored of one, i can play the other. i also like MK vs DC; probably the least in-depth of the 3 fighting games, but still fun.
hmm..imagine a game from way back in the early days of gaming..now imagine the creators making it look pretty and adding some extra things. that's about it. personally, I don't care for fighting games, but i played the original and remember it well, feels almost exactly the same to me. so all you got to ask yourself is..do you like street fighter? if yes, then it's an awesome addition. If No, then you'll just shelf it. it's seems to be on sale now anyways, best time to think on that.
put it on easiest difficulty and do a jump heavy kick followed by a crouch heavy kick. if you manage to do this by keeping some distance from him he will eat the combo like a cake.
should work fine.... it does need 1 gb ram 2ghz processor and ur graphics are fine too go ahead buy it... (u also should be able to find the minimum requirements online somewhere)
uhh guys tekken and street fighter are different fighting games... SF stays true to the 2d fighter mix with 3D elements, its fast paced and focus entirely on button mashing, it also is pretty enjoyable when playing using a joystick.. tekken on the other hand is on full 3D and u will suck at it if u dont know any juggle moves or combos and requires skills in memorizing and chaining together deadly moves.
For alot of people its new and if u're truly a fan its a must have unless what. And the focus attack make's it almost like a new system Same for the grapichs and new charachters
@TRIEproductions you have to play through the game to get the other characters... or maybe you just bought the demo version (if there really was one...)

let me guess those 5 characters ryu, chun li, m bison, akuma, guile or ken i have some time without playing sf but i can barley guess those 5 overused characters btw am i right?
I have SF4 since Saturday. And its a top game best fighter I've played in ages. It was the first time I sat down and played a fighting game for 7 hours straight since... am??? Street fighter 2 on the Snes. And the 360 pad works just fine for the pulling off moves. way better than Turbo HD and SF2. The graphics are a lot like Prince of Perisa. A lot of the same sort of inked outlines when doing focus moves. And the Ultra finishes are a lot like Killer instinct. 20 hit combos etc. Love it.
@Reaper91698 You know, I really want to know at what conditions the PS3 displays THAT. It never occured to me. Either I earn a trophy or I don't, but I don't get messages for NOT doing it.
usually the reason why it says "You did not get a trophy" is because hes probably using a game save. To get a trophy you have to start entirely from scratch to get trophys
capcom actually wanted to keep the old-school feel of the game w/c was lost when the zero/alpha series got released. so it was meant to play pretty much like SF2. it's a love it or hate it kind of thing. i personally love it, because i lost interest with the series after SF2

Looking back 15 years from now, how do you feel about this game?
This is one of the best reviews I have ever seen from IGN. I look forward to using Fei Long. At first the game looked weird to me but it has come a long way since then. Now I just need to get a better controller for it.
15 years later
And still giving the same energy
NOSTALGIA!
A well respected sequel which is faithful to its predessors for anybody whos been playing street fighter since SFII. man I love SFIV
So we only get one street fighter every 10 years?
14 years later, Street Fighter 6 is here!
To this day this is my favorite street fighter game
I'm glad your enjoying it. My ps3 is broke and been in the shop for the last 2 weeks and I'm excepting it back tomorrow and can't wait to play some more street fighter lol.

you did not earn a trophy??? WTF!!
Very nice and conscience review. No hyperbole or "repetitive gameplay" nonsense. Thank you Sir!
2024 anyone?
@garder14

Looks decent, I might be getting it. Love fighting games, and it may hold me over until Tekken hits the 360.
Oh man Tekken 6 was AWESOME!!!!
This Game is Legendary ... One of the best to ever come out.
Lol 2.17. You played a Sagat vs Dan match recently?
First time I played this, I couldn't figure things out. Is this a good place to start for a newcomer to Street fighter?
It is in HD. You have to wait about an hour after the video is uploaded before the option becomes available.
Legend has it that this reviewer never earned another trophy again after this.
you have to unlock the top and bottom rows and unless you connect you PMP or something to whatever you are using. No custom soundtracks.
one of the most appealing concept in tekken 6BR....is the wide customization wer u can dress up ur character from head to toe just like a doll...for those hardcore tekken player well surely amazed of the changes when they dress up their character coz of the quality of graphics......
@xxAsteriskxx
oh yeah, that. i cant wait to see that in action, and i cant wait to play as yang, he is awesome.
But will the computer use all the newer stuff or can you disable that?
Fei Long is SO much like Liu Kang from MK9. He Has a really deep voice, but in a fight, he sounds like a ninja being kicked in the groin.
Well the computer use the new focus mode stuff or can you turn that off?
@IGNentertainment This is just a guess, but with review version of the game you can't unlock trophies right or am i just missing something?
They are. It's been announced and Seth Killian has talked about it a bit.
I played the first street fighter should I buy this game or wait till # 5
This was worth the wait unlike SF 3rd strike...
This is possibly the best fighting game ever made. I have been playing fighting games since Karate Champ from the 80's. It is really THAT good. Sf4 vs SSf4 AE . I played the Arcade edition well enough. I like to dig into story should i go back to sf4
Awesome dude! I'm buying the SF4 Collector's Edition too this friday, glad to hear it's awesome. I can't wait to play!(Woot) = D
Nah the reason that happen because he was using someone else save file on another account.

Definitely a masterpiece in EVERY SENSE of the word!
Awesome game! Managed to play it @ the local store a while ago. A must have for hardcore SF fans.
I have always wondered why there is a lack of black fighters in Street fighter. Especially when they dominate most fighting types.
people still checking out this video after almost 10 years lol

Well, most of the original 16 fighters were based on stereotypes, from appearances to popular culture and people themselves so there's that. Japan doesn't give a damn.

"lack if black fighters" oh i cant wait to show u smash
What Capcom got out of the major complaint for SSF4 was that the cutscenes were poorly animated. Come on IGN!
Probably havent been so into a fighting game in a very long time :)
Love the game!
The graphic of SF 4 from 2008 was still better than KOF 14 when it just came out in 2016.
SF4 also looks better than SF5
I suggest getting SSFIITHDR or SSFII HF just to practice. Once you get the hang of 1-3 characters, SFIV is a piece of cake. I wish they put in Dee Jay though, I hated T.Hawk.

@MattHeiney The review is for the Playstation 3 version but the game is also on the xbox 360
SF4 still looks amazing after all this time.
Are there any broken character's in this game because i would consider buying it if all the character's are well balanced and of equal playability...
do people play this game still ?
i am planning to buy this game.

is the controller button layout the thing that matters or something? but which one is better? should i get it for ps3?

The video said that. It does have an online ability but its not favorable due to lag.
Would this games graphics be considered average for 360 and ps3 or really really good graphics?

It says 'You did not earn a trophy" because he is not using his own save game. If you import someone else's save, you can't get trophies off it.
