West Coast, my neck of the woods... Back in my days in Guyana Astro and Tarla cinemas was our source of entertainment... wonderful memories. Thank you for doing a drive through.

Meten-Meer- Zorg had 2 cinemas, Tarla and Astro. Astro was the best in its day. It was the last cinema built in Guyana up until the last decade or so. De-Kendren is the last village on WCD. Boeresarie creek is in the last clip of WCD. Thanks for showing.

I haven't finished looking at this video as yet.... brought tears of joy, sadness and other emotions to my eyes. The memories were overwhelming. I'll tell you a little story...... myself ( Tayoob Kassim Sattaur), Naveena Chandrika Darshan and Kenneth Bridgmongal were Sworn Land Surveyors working for Hydrographic Surveys Ministry of Works and Hydraulics. Our office was opposite the Lighthouse. Before the Demerara Bridge was built... I did the survey for the approachs and land acquisition in Peter's Hall , Kenneth Bridgmongal did the La Grange approach and our survey monuments were used for the alignment for the bridge. N C Darshan did the hydrographic soundings to deternine tidal range, channel location for boats to pass which determined the Opening Span of the bridge and we did the electronic measurement of the length across the proposed bridge span. Joseph Holder was the Bridge Engineer who spearheaded the buiding of the Bridge using our information. We never got credit for this important part of our job... just the engineering feat got the credit. I do remember my friends and colleagues doing that job. I'm still in contact with K. Bridgmongal here in Ontario, Canada. We are retired and older now and everyone is caught up with life in these developed countries.... and no one knows how much we have done for the development of Guyana and Canada. We are an unsung dying breed of Guyanese. A little tid bit to add to the flavour of the Demerara Bridge... I was driving a Vauxhall Viva (2 doors) taking a colleague home to Vreed-en-Hoop (Bishun Dial - now deceased), The tires was almost bald and it was raining heavily.... we were almost drunk ; ) and I spun-out on the metal bridge and crashed into it. Surveyed it and was the first to crash on it. Since then they tried asphalting parts of it to give grip. Hope this gives your viewers a bit of unknown history of the bridge.
I'll look at the rest later when I'm composed. Cheers. Good job.

Tyboy4U wow very informative many people including myself didn’t even know that. Congratulations to you and colleagues for your contributions towards the harbor bridge and to Guyana in general. Most time the bosses take credit for the hard work of the employees.

Denny ..you are doing an excellent job because it’s your hobby ...
The pronunciation and history lessons is for the books....
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and you are bringing the pictures to life.
Keep moving on with your usual zeal and enthusiasm and your heart will be filled with pleasant dreams of making viewers feel happy.
Your are a true and kind cancer born man !!!!
You are not always politically correct but I love your style and may god bless you and your family.

Of course there is sugar cane on the West Coast Demerara. We had 3 sugar estates - Wales, Leonora and Uitvlugt. Only Uitvlugt is still open. After Vreed-en-Hoop is Crane and then Walters Delight followed by Rumzeigt and Windsor Forest.

Champ 2 thanks for information. I saw cane in wales and canal but I never saw cane on the west coast that’s why I wasn’t certain if there is any. I know it used to have cane on the east bank of Essequibo. Wasn’t sure of the WCD

Yet another awesome video Denny! I've been binge-watching your channel during this Covid 19 pandemic. I grew up in Vreed-en-Hoop. I hope you don't mind if I offer some information for the viewers:
    - Malgre Tout - the 'tout' is pronounced like tooth. It's a French name.
    - The strange thing about the name of Klien Pouderoyen is that Klien means 'Little' in Dutch. So at some point, there would have been main Pouderoyen. I think both may have just fused together over time.
    - The road you turned onto from the junction to where you said it's the end of Best road is actually New Road. Best Road is the one that turns off New Road leading to the Best Hospital. it then makes a left and runs parallel to New Road and runs into Crane I think.
    - Right at the end of New Road is where Vreed-en-Hoop (dutch name) ends and the village you turned into at 8:25 is actually called Novelle Flanders (french). It's very narrow so most people don't know where it ends lol.
    - Right when you said 'best road ends' to your right is one of the entrances to Crane village.
-At 11:00 that's Hack Rice Mill in the village of Harlem (dutch). another narrow village you can miss if you don't realize you are passing it.
_Between De Willem and Meten-meer-Zorg an entrance branches off to the street of Kastev, home to the Guyana Heritage Museum. If you go to the top of the museum you can see the island of Leguan.
Keep up the excellent work showcasing Guyana and helping the people!

I was born in Buxton and would like to see if I can recognize the lot where I was born. I lived in the area not far from where there was a Christian Church (I think the church is no longer there only an empty lot). Thanks you very much and God Bless.
