Trying Guyanese Street Food for the First Time!! Completely Unexpected!!

  • Back in July of 2022, I explored my 90th country, Guyana, beginning in the capital city, Georgetown. Come with me on my very first day in the country as I get my first taste of Guyanese food and explore the capital!
    For this trip, I teamed up with Visit Guyana and Discovery Guyana. Our first adventure together was exploring the Bourda Market, followed by a trip to the famous Backyard Café. Inside the Guyana Shop, I saw items made by local women, including achar, cassareep, crafts, pepper sauces, and more.

    I am commenting from Sierra Leone, West Africa. I really enjoy the lifestyle of Guyana, the people are so ... oh my God... I feel connected to Guyana despite a south American country but I like it. The cassava bread, is similar to ours here in Sierra Leone except that our own is very soft and is usually eaten with gravy and fried fish. The giant worm, we don't usually eat it raw, we fry it with it's oil; I mean we wash it and put it in a hot pot and then, there we go. I wish to have a Guyanese friend. There're really many things that we share in common.

    To all the people who have been waiting for the Guyana series, REJOICE. Your patience had finally paid off. You all can relax and enjoy now. Nice start. I am seeing a lot of things that are common to the Caribbean and foods that are similar but called by a different name e.g. metemgee: oil down in Trinidad, mango sauce similar to mango chutney, and a lot of fruits and vegetables that can be commonly found in the region as well. Everything is FRESH: from garden or market to pot and straight to stomach 😄😄😄. So now we will all see the expanded versions of all those 'shorts' teasers David put on. The only problem I had was Delvin comparing limacol to Robitussin because he should have warned people NOT to DRINK it. We used to mix the limacol with coconut oil and rub our heads when we have a headache or fever. Very good remedy. Just waiting now to see what else is in store. Sorry guys but I tend to be analytical at times but that's just me. Good job 🙏🕊️✌️🇹🇹🇨🇦

    I am proud of Guyanese Diversed culture .They learnt from each others and cook dishes from all ethnic groups. The guy was quick to say Pepperpot is a national dish but it' s only one of our national dishes. We have cultural national dishes such as DHAL, ROTIE, CURRIES , CHOWMEIN, FRIED RICE, STEWS, METAMGEE, COOKUP RICE AND THE LIST GOES ON. I would like the world to know we have more than one national dishes.Thank you very much.

    • @jabaltariq4606
      @jabaltariq4606 Год назад +11

      In Trinidad the national dish is "crab and callaloo" but all the dishes you put in capital letters are also served! A national dish is something that is unique to the nation. It does not mean that other dishes are ignored. For example, in Trinidad so called doubles in one of the most popular street food, and even though crab and callaloo is the national dish people cook other things a lot more.

      Its like what the person said.
      I dont agree with any national dish idea, I think its dumb ...but its been many decades now where they have been saying its pepperpot.
      A national dish is a dish, that disked like or cooked by a large cross section of people but which is also unique.
      Dahl is national dish? Use common sense.
      We also make a crab soup with okros ...its that also a national dish of Guyana. No because its mostly made by creole and black people in Berbice or Indians that live around them, and its not made by anyone else regardless of race.

    • @sayitasis8326

      National dish is different from cultural dishes. All of that is part of the culture but just like the flag and the coat of arms one stands out as our representation. I personally love that pepper pot is it because it definitely encompasses us as a people
