Correct me if I am wrong, but these domains are not global like a traditional Web2.0 domain. These are minted on Ethereum( or any layer 2 solution) so it is possible that I can get the same domain(NFT) on a different blockchain, say, Solana or Cardano.
depends on the top level domain. which is the part after the dot. for example, there can only be one john.crypto domain, but it's ok for john.eth to also exist at the same time. The minting network is not a factor in this really, it's the same standard established decades ago. Just like it does not matter where your website is hosted physically, the standard still works regardless and no single domain is used more than once at the same exact time.
@@ahmedabbas4434 Think of it this way, if I have a NFT say on Ethereum then no one is preventing me to create a replica on say Solana. So, technically these domains are not unique. 1) ens DOES enable multiple crypto wallets, so first critique is invalid. You can also secure regular domain names 2) paying for time rental is better to avoid speculators buying up names 3) ens is also adding L2 Overall unstoppable is significantly less supported than ENS. They aren't very decentralized, etc. Ens is supported across almost all eth dapps.
Your second point while valid didn't really stop speculators, as the difference between 1 year and 15 isnt that high especially when factoring in the fact speculators are aiming for flipping within 1-3 years not really a way to stop them. Responding to your first point: The gas fees are expensive for registration bc you're using the ETH network (currently $88 with gas fees to mint compared to my $20 on .Zil) and Unstoppable allows me to mint my domain on other blockchains without being locked to ETH gas fees. Also to your 2nd point: domain squatting is still a prevalent issue in the online world now (20+ years later) and buying up names is always going to happen. It's more of a non-issue and will eventually get resolved by whatever regulatory service takes over the crypto world. *edit People still have whole businesses around domain parking and re-selling. Also Unstoppable protects brands and notable individuals and trademark owners from having their domains swiped.
I really like how you presented this video with whiteboard illustrations. I already have a unstoppable domain and trying to learn how to use it. Thanks for helping.
Can you explain the major differences between .crypto, .wallet, .888, .zil, .coin, .NFT, .x, .DOA? what makes one better or worse than the other? do they have different functions?
Mainly personal preference but I think .zil is designated for the Zilliqa blockchain, x is regarded as exclusive and preferred for its shortness but also more expensive. I bought one with .crypto because it's one of the firsts and will likely have extensions built to support it first rather than the newer TLDs like .coin, .888, etc.
On the surface, I like this idea, but then I started thinking about security. What if somebody hacked their website and changed your wallet address for let’s say bitcoin? Then later somebody goes to send you bitcoin at your domain name and instead goes to the hackers wallet! Is this a valid concern? Have they taken steps to prevent this? Also, how will they make money in the long term?
Very valid concern there. The sender would assume the address is correct, and not the public key behind it. So it's the domain owner has to check the address is correct all the time.
maybe the wallet is linked to metamask wallet so if hackers change it wont the system detect different address than your metamask address? just assuming.
I allready try it... The hacker should have our wallet file and key... And it need email confirmation to change the wallet addresse... Kinda save i think...
Excellent video, although it would be really useful to understand security. Front end secured by metamask I have the usual metamask concerns on…but what about the centralised backend?…and the hackability of your dns addresses? Someone sending to your wallet but after someone else has changed your Bitcoin (or other supported network) address to theirs would be very problematic!
