President Joe Biden speaks at the reception honoring the recipients of the 45th Kennedy Center Honors-George Clooney, Amy Grant, Tania León, Gladys Knight and the band U2-in the East Room of the White House on December 4th, 2022.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is proud to celebrate the 45th Honorees for lifetime artistic achievements: acclaimed actor and filmmaker George Clooney; contemporary Christian and pop singer-songwriter Amy Grant; legendary singer of soul, Gospel, R&B, and pop Gladys Knight; Cuban-born American composer, conductor, and educator Tania León; and iconic Irish rock band U2, comprised of band members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.

Time after time and counting, she has been such a light in the darkness, a comforting hug to the hurting, and a joy unparralled in celebrating this precious thing we call life. She does this all with her remarkable gift of song and a pure sweet voice like that of an angel. She always seeks with passion to find and spotlight that which brings us together while still celebrating our individuality. She lives a beautiful example of not only a powerful faith in God, but also a profound faith in each other. May her music and her message of love play on...we're listening. Congratulations to her and to everyone on that stage.

I am most impressed with the Cuban classical composer/musician, Tania Leon. The woman has accomplished so much in her lifetime. Kudos to she and her Cuban spirit of excellence.
U2 is great band and they deserve every recognition award 🥇 congrats!
Not just because of that, but also because of all they’ve done to help the World. What Bono & Edge did to try & keep Music Education alive & well in New Orleans after Katrina won my everlasting respect. I grew up w/their Music, so that love had already been well entrenched by then & I love Bono forever for all he’s done to help erase AIDS from the Planet. What they did for those Kids in NOLA though....I swear, we just don’t deserve them sometimes. Take Care!! 😊

I always look forward to this show every year and I've never actually heard the beginning like this so this is wonderful to see and so great to see a real president's back hosting. Gladys Knight is absolutely fantastic and I'm so glad she is being honored. It is well deserved at a long time coming.

I just loved seeing the receptions that President Biden hosted. You know, I wish he could host a reception in honor of Sesame Street & 14 other Kennedy Center Honorees who were honored between 2017 & 2019, so I wrote a couple of letters to him, asking him to host a reception to congratulate these 15 past Honorees for being honored by the Kennedy Center.

Something that two of the nominees have in common are they're both very much born again Christians. And something he didn't say at all is the music of Christ isn't something that's supposed to be demeaning or hateful it actually talks about Hope and love. Spreading love throughout the nation through Jesus someone who always have your back no matter what you do no matter what race you are no matter if you're gay you'll be loved by him. That's what Amy Grant's music meant and that's what she tried spreading love and peace no hate amongst men but equality.
Amy did do that - part of why I love her. Jesus... not so much.
