Jay, I have been watching you since your baby was on the way and am old enough to be your mom. I don't comment very often, but I just wanted to say that you seem to be very kindhearted person and a good dad. I hope this helps keep that smile on your face. 😊
I remember this song before FM radio. My am radio I would hold by my head when I would go to sleep and hear this great music. This was the beginning of rock music. Without it were would music be.?
My friend if this is only the second song reaction to Jay and the Americans, you have many more.Check out This Magic Moment, Let's Lock the Door,She Cried, Walking in the Rain, and many....Great Group Best Lead Male Vocals on the planet!!!
1960s… I was in high school in 1967. I was a senior and yes, Jay and the Americans, were one of our favorites back in the day. I can’t tell you how much this music makes me smile and think of the wonderful time I had.💙💙💙💙👏👏
Love Jay Black and this song! He and The Americans had some good ones out in the mid-60s. "Cara Mia" is another great one of theirs! Good choice, Jay!! Have a nice evening!
Kathie says… GENE PITNEY: TOWN WITHOUT PITY…..24 HOURS FROM TULSA…..MECCA….ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK A HEART…..BACKSTAGE…..THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE…..THERE’S NO LIVING WITHOUT YOUR LOVING……..All of these songs recorded by GENE PITNEY are Perfection and you will love them! It is hard to pick a favorite!
As added interest: in 1970-71, Donald Fagan and Walter Becker, later in Steely Dan played in Jay and the Americans touring band playing keyboards and bass guitar respectively.
Jay and commenters, if you're just catching up to all of the Jay And The Americans hit songs here are their best gems other than the mentioned "Cara Mia" and "Come A Little Bit Closer": 1) Let's Lock The Door 2) Walking In The Rain 3) This Magic Moment 4) Only In America 5) Sunday And Me 6) Living Above Your Head 7) Some Enchanted Evening 8) Hang Around 9) Run To My Loving Arms 10) She Cried 11) When It's All Over 12) Something In My Eye. * NOTE: A lovely gal by the name of April Young also did a great cover version of the song "Run To My Loving Arms" in '65 too. * Enjoy all of the listed songs people!
I was born in 1959. I had the chance to listen to to thr best music from the 60’s and 70’s. Never say you want to go back to the 50’s and 60’s. If you could actually go back in time, you would be in your 70’s now, much closer the heaven, assuming you lived long enough to to be in your 79’s
When I hear this song I laugh I caught my brother singing this song in the mirror using a comb as a mic I did not laugh when he knew I was looking and laughing at him
It's a great story song. I love the mariachi influence in the music. It made you smile from ear to ear. And the like counter is spinning upwards as I type these words. You gave us a good one tonight.
I love this theme about lovely Mexican ladies and the Americans they attract. There's a Monkees song with a similar theme called "What Am I Doin' Hangin' Round" and a Marty Robbins song even more similar called "El Paso" which mentions Rosa's Cantina, a real place in El Paso that inspired the song.
Hi Jay! You may have done some songs by The Lovin' Spoonful but they have lots of "groovy" sounds from the 1960s. "What a Day for a Daydream," "Summer in the City," and others. Love Jay Black and this song! He and The Americans had some good ones out in the mid-60s. "Cara Mia" is another great one of theirs! Good choice, Jay!! Have a nice evening!
This track is from 1964; the group was formed in the late 1950s in. New York City with lead singer Jay Traynor. They had one hit in 1962, but the next two songs didn’t do well, so he left the group; David Black replaced him after agreeing to change his name to JAY!!
"Everything was recorded at the same level" None of the instruments could be plugged in. They all had to be recorded through microphones, and early on they could only have a single microphone to record everything. Not sure where they were at on that front when this was recorded.
At the time of it's release,, This absolute MUST HEAR Classic was way ahead of it's time,, Billy Thorpe "Children Of The Sun" 🌞 Great story & A straight up BANGER!!
This was a great band from the 60's-70's. The lead singer Jay Black had a very powerful voice. Some of their hits were "Cara Mia", "She Cried", "Only In America" etc. In 1969, they recorded an album of their favorite oldies called "Sands Of Time", which included the hit "This Magic Moment" (The Drifters). They also had a hit with "Walkin' In The Rain" (The Ronettes).
I just saw Jay and the Americans in December. There are still two original members with the group. The lead singer “Jay” was awesome and sounds exactly like Jay Black the original Jay.
Jay and The Americans started out as a New York area vocal group. What fascinates me is the Mexican feel they had in this record and some of their others. Where did it come from? You should give "Sunday And Me" a listen. Besides the group's performance, it was the first big hit written by Neil Diamond, before he embarked on his own run as a singer-songwriter. Beach Boys! Man there are so many....I'll try three: "I Get Around" which was a number 1..."Sloop John B." from their legendary Pet Sounds LP....and "Surf's Up" which must have driven their label and Brian's other bandmates crazy...very different from the formula the Beach Boys had used earlier in the 60s. (I loved it!)
Came out when I was in grade school. Used a lot at teen parties in my family back then, think it was because it was a fun song . Another one that's a fun song was If you want to be happy for the rest of your life. Can't remember who did it.
I bought the 45 rpm record of this, when it was first released. Another artist from around that time is Bobby Vee. You might react to his "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" (1962).
Jay (Dave Blatt) was one of the greatest singers of all time. Great group, many very good songs. WALKING IN THE RAIN, a cover of the Shirelles my favorite. Appreciate it if you would react to it, beautiful song!
February 3rd, 2025 will be 66 years since the world lost Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. They may have left us too early but their music will live on forever. Have a listen to Tommy Dee and Carol Kay singing “Three Stars”.
Good group name, huh J.?😄(Yeah, not bad. 😉😄.) While you were asking for songs from The Beach Boys (which I will look up later), ANOTHER group OFTEN associated with The Beach Boys came to mind for me (& you have NEVER even done them once!): Jan & Dean - "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena." - it is a little bit of a fun story w. Beach Boy sound.
Jay & The Americans were created in late 1959(NOT the early 50's as Jordan stated)by Kenny Vance, Sandy Yaguda, Howie Kane and John "Jay" Traynor who left the group in 1962 to be replaced by David Black who would become the new Jay....as The Harbor-Lites they would perform in and around the New York City area until 1961 after being signed to United Artists label they would be finally known as Jay & The Americans they would have their first hit with the pretty doo-wop ballad She Cried in 1962 and the rest is rock & Roll history.
From the Beach Boys I think you haven't done "Sloop John B" and "Help me Rhonda" yet. I would also recommend to check out "Needles and Pins" by the Searchers, a British Invasion band from Liverpool. "Sorry Suzanne" by the Hollies is another one I recommend.
Just love your channel! Watching as you experience all of these different genres of music and we can go with you along this journey. Making me 😊 God Bless ❤
Been low-key waiting for this one since Jim Croce made an appearance, and I was not disappointed at all. This was a favorite of my moms so thanks for popping some of those memories back up as well.
Elton John did a hysterically funny tune along the same lines called “Grow Some Funk of Your Own” you would love. You might wanna check it out. It’s off his “Rock of the Westies” release.
J, I had so much fun tonight with you and these reaction!!❤ This one was my favorite. I could tell, no faking, you were having fun. Love it!!❤ Have a great rest of your weekend. ☺🎵🎼🙏
Try He's Raining In My Sunshine, Living Above Your Head, Let's Lock The Door And Throw Away The Key and Sunday And Me from Jay and the Americans. I'm sure you will like these songs and not be disappointed. Thank you for playing one of my suggestions, Come A Little Bit Closer, by a group I have really liked for many years Jay. 😀👍
Makes me think of working for my Dad when I was a kid. I got to bring my little transistor radio to make the work go faster. Love the channel. Good vibes to you, man.
One of my favorite vocalists from the mid 60s. He really flexes his vocal muscles on "Cara Mia". Please give it a listen. Check out Marty Robbins' "El Paso" for another story telling border song.
Decades before the title got ruined by a certain female singer, you might wanna check out a great number by this group from about the same time called.... FRIDAY.😂
I think the chorus of this song was the basis of the jingle for Benson & Hedges cigarettes, "A silly millimeter longer , 101!" advertising their 101 mm cigarette, as opposed to the usual 100 mm. Probably on RUclips somewhere.
One of my old favorites. Hadn't heard it in a long long time. Thanks for the trip;-) I don't remember you reacting to Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra singing together. They do a great duet with the song The Lady Is A Tramp .
Hey Jay!!!!! This is such a goody!!! Love me some great oldies! Happy Saturday!!! I would recommend a great unique voice from the 60's, Gene Pitney. You may have done him once, but not sure. A couple great story songs are Town Without Pity and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance!!! ❤❤❤❤❤.
She IS trouble! You nailed it!! lol
Jay, I have been watching you since your baby was on the way and am old enough to be your mom. I don't comment very often, but I just wanted to say that you seem to be very kindhearted person and a good dad. I hope this helps keep that smile on your face. 😊

Thanks for the reply. Brings back great memories.

One of the catchiest songs I ever heard, was fun to see you fall in love with this catchy classic
On the Spanish version they did at the time, the vocal swings even more ("hi, hi") than the original. ruclips.net/video/SBGJcz0_GLY/видео.html
Great song! Always makes me think of El Paso by Marty Robbins.
never made that connection but he a Marty do sound a bit alike
I always thought it was Marty Robbins singing this song!😊
Oooh yes! They have the same theme
1960s… I was in high school in 1967. I was a senior and yes, Jay and the Americans, were one of our favorites back in the day. I can’t tell you how much this music makes me smile and think of the wonderful time I had.💙💙💙💙👏👏
Also, Graduated High School in '67
Love Jay Black and this song! He and The Americans had some good ones out in the mid-60s. "Cara Mia" is another great one of theirs! Good choice, Jay!! Have a nice evening!
I liked this song by them plus "Cara Mia" and "This Magic Moment".
It's so great seeing how much you enjoy this great classic
As added interest: in 1970-71, Donald Fagan and Walter Becker, later in Steely Dan played in Jay and the Americans touring band playing keyboards and bass guitar respectively.
Jay had such a beautiful voice.

Great reaction Jay. Jay and the Americans had some classics in the 60s. My favorite is Cara Mia. 👏👏
You realize this was most likely the inspiration for "Gimme Three Steps" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
❤❤❤❤❤ 1960 here. The only childhood years i want to go back to are the 70s
It’s great to see someone much younger than me appreciate music from the good old days.
When I hear this song I laugh I caught my brother singing this song in the mirror using a comb as a mic I did not laugh when he knew I was looking and laughing at him
Country artist Johnny Duncan did a version with Janie Fricke back in the 70's
It's a great story song. I love the mariachi influence in the music. It made you smile from ear to ear. And the like counter is spinning upwards as I type these words. You gave us a good one tonight.

Love that song by The Monkees!

NO JAY THIS SONG CAME OUT IN THE 60's sweetie...it was a huge hit.
This track is from 1964; the group was formed in the late 1950s in. New York City with lead singer Jay Traynor. They had one hit in 1962, but the next two songs didn’t do well, so he left the group; David Black replaced him after agreeing to change his name to JAY!!
This Magic Moment - my favorite!
Continue to R.I.P Mr Jay Black ❤. Thanks for this one Jay 😊
"Everything was recorded at the same level"

Great story & A straight up BANGER!!
This group goes back a few years earlier with hits She Cried in 1962 and Only in America in 1964.
Yes with the original Jay... Jay Traynor.
I love this song Wayback in the day. Always loved it still do
Wasnt this one on Guardians of the Galaxy? Great song and yes, i do recall it way back in the day.
This was a great band from the 60's-70's. The lead singer Jay Black had a very powerful voice. Jay Black had one of the very best voices of all time.
"...she belonged to bad man Jose?" Only in Jose's own mind. She really belongs to no one.
I feel like a little kid, again!❤
This was released in 1964; I was 13, but I remembered the lyrics as soon as I heard it. Fun song!
Check out Jay Black then and now -- unbelievable!
I just saw Jay and the Americans in December. There are still two original members with the group. The lead singer “Jay” was awesome and sounds exactly like Jay Black the original Jay.

One of my favorite groups of all time.❤

She is a classic femme fatale. Best to avoid as they are trouble.
I bought the 45 rpm record of this, when it was first released. Another artist from around that time is Bobby Vee. You might react to his "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" (1962).
Great song! ❤
Jay (Dave Blatt) was one of the greatest singers of all time. Great group, many very good songs. WALKING IN THE RAIN, a cover of the Shirelles my favorite. Appreciate it if you would react to it, beautiful song!
Loved Jay and the Americans. Great music and songs.
I love the 60s I'd love to see some more reactions of Herman's Hermits.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps" has the same plot.
I love Jay's voice and songs. Even my Dad liked his voice and he hated my music lol.
February 3rd, 2025 will be 66 years since the world lost Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. They may have left us too early but their music will live on forever. Have a listen to Tommy Dee and Carol Kay singing “Three Stars”.
Jay Black had a great voice. My absolute favourite is “Living above your head”
Good group name, huh J.?😄(Yeah, not bad. 😉😄.)

I remember listening to this as a very young boy and jamming. Great memories J, lol😂
Wow! I haven't heard this since I was a kid and my dad would play his "old" records!
I seem to remember you doing "Cara Mia". You should also check out "She Cried" "This Magic Moment" and "Walking In the Rain"
Hi Rob, This one came out in November 1964. Keep the good stuff coming!
One of my old favorites. 😊
Just love your channel! Watching as you experience all of these different genres of music and we can go with you along this journey. Making me 😊 God Bless ❤
They give me a Bruce Springsteen (first albums...say songs like Rosalita) vibe !.
My mother had thier greatest hits album at the side of her stereo always.
Love his voice.
This songs one of my favs.

Hey Jay on a another note, I like ur new wall display. But come on you took out Barry Gibb he needs to be back on the main wall brother
You should listen to EL Paso by Marty Robbins
Try He's Raining In My Sunshine, Living Above Your Head, Let's Lock The Door And Throw Away The Key and Sunday And Me from Jay and the Americans. I'm sure you will like these songs and not be disappointed. Thank you for playing one of my suggestions, Come A Little Bit Closer, by a group I have really liked for many years Jay. 😀👍

One of my favorite vocalists from the mid 60s. He really flexes his vocal muscles on "Cara Mia". Please give it a listen. Check out Marty Robbins' "El Paso" for another story telling border song.
Please react to Jay and the Americans crying. It is the best version, In my opinion.
Hey Jordan, try “Kind Of A Drag” by The Buckinghams, if you haven’t yet. Vintage 60’s tune😁
Decades before the title got ruined by a certain female singer, you might wanna check out a great number by this group from about the same time called....
FRIDAY.😂

JATA still performs. You should interview them.
I love love this song
Love this one! Been hoping you'd get to this one!!! ❤
Walking in the rain is another great Jay Black vocal
the Pete Best band. I want you to play them.
One of my old favorites. Hadn't heard it in a long long time. Thanks for the trip;-) I don't remember you reacting to Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra singing together. They do a great duet with the song The Lady Is A Tramp .
their "caria mia" was a super hit.
Inspiration for Gimme Three Steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd
Beware, they are out there fellas. Thanks. Jay. Love watching your Son's of Anarchy too. 👍
You've done UB40 only 1 time, try "Rat in mi kitchen"
Barbara Lynn's Bluesy "You'll Lose A Good Thing (1963)." She sings lead vocals and plays lead guitar. Oh, and there's plenty of Sax, too, of course.
Barbara Lynn is dynamite. She could be Jimi Hendrix' twin sister. I believe she also plays left handed.
For the Beach Boys would love to see you react to Little Deuce Coupe or I Get Around ❤
There was two different lead singers in this group. The first Jay had a success with the Song She Cried. You should react to this one.
They were great, talented singers. If you need another suggestion from them try "Only In America" Fun music thank you Jordan!
One of my favorites from the sixties
Another good one by them is Let's Lock The Door. Same kind of feel as this one.
Another Jay and the Americans song to listen to is Walkin in the Rain..
I asked for this one like a year or two ago, glad it finally got here. :)
Some Enchanted Evening is a great song.
Story songs are always cool. There are a few others by these guys. Check out She cried.
My personal favorite is Only In America. I bought the 45rpm record new and still have it. I will be 80 on the 26th of this month.
Hey little brother glad you got to listen to this awesome song....you should listen to their song " Only in America " it's great too
Jay and the Americans started in 1960 with a different lead singer Jay Traynor.Jay black joined them in1962.
Love this song! Appreciate you J!
