A tree puller and a root grapple are my two best friends and most used implements in my battle against locusts and cedars here in east Texas. Much like Mike I used to cut them down and then have to deal with the stumps by digging them out with a stump bucket. I'm glad those days are over. :-)
I have a short small diameter chain with a ring on one end and a hook on the other. Wrap chain around tree slip hook through ring and attach to bucket, best in back. Lift up, chain chokes on tree, cheap and easy.
That works if you only have to do a few every few years, and for speed’s sake have somebody on the ground hooking and unhooking your chain. We’ve got a Danuser version of this we use on a bobcat, and there is no way 2 guys with a chain and a loader tractor working a solid day could get done what I can in 2 hours. Also with a chain and bucket you’re not going to be able to get as large of a tree out, as with the narrow “snout” of these tree pullers you can really get in to dig and cut roots to get larger trees out.
Your videos are the best! I bought my first tract 2 weeks ago and I've been since searching for educational advice videos on a tractor and this whole channel is the best for that!
Thanks Mike for another great video. I bought a Danuser Intimidator last year and love it. I got it to save my back and chainsaw when tackling all the small trees and shrubs. It didn't even dawn on me to pull out the grapevines with it, thanks for the tip.
We’ve got a Danuser tree and post puller. And it’s awesome for pulling trees! On a skid loader you’d really be surprised at how large of a tree you can get out with some digging
Same here. It would be great to have to clear out scrubland. If combined with a PTO chipper it would be a poor man"s version of a skid steer foresty flail mulcher.
That looks very handy. Would of liked too see the manufacture make the whole claw unlock then rotate 90 degrees too get more use out of it grabbing logs for bucking etc .
Hey Mike, great video. Does your paperwork say what tractor horsepower recommended?? Got a Kioti 3510 and need a implement similar to that. What's the manufacturer of that tool?? Living in western MD area.
Bob, I have the same issue, don't you hate that plant? We're planning to do a video this winter showing the use of a tree puller, a tree shear and a grapple to get rid of Autumn Olive. I have no idea which one will work the best so I'm going into the process with an open mind. Stay tuned!
Another disadvantage would be the extra strain placed on the front axle if you use one of these a lot trying to pull trees that your loader can't pull. Also watch out which species you're pulling, sometimes pulling makes the problem worse because you'll never get all the roots and those roots will sprout new trees and you're better off cutting them and using a stump killer.
I agree. I bought one of these last summer. I also bought a new Massey Ferguson 2706 E tractor to put it on. I like the ability to pull trees by the roots, carry them to a brush pile and put on top of the brush pile with out leaving the tractor seat. I also agree that there is no rhyme or reason for the size tree it will pull. I have pulled 6 inch diameter oak trees and had a 1 inch diameter hickory that it would not pull. Its all about soil condition and root structure. Just curious, what is the HP of the tractor you are using in the video?
The size stump he’s talking about removing is pretty darn small. The tree size is small. Let’s sat light to medium brush. Any hardwood then forget And if it’s a good sized man wrist size get a chainsaw. Like I said earlier I have one. I use mine mainly for overhead trimming. Like he said twice they are great on multi bloom rose bushes. About the extent of pulling.
Hey Mike, I'd love you to do a video about old fashioned grader blades. Especially when you don't have remote hydraulics to power a hydraulic top link. Are they any good for for fixing up driveways? I'm too scared to even give one a try on mine, as I worry it'll do more harm than good.
It's made by Precision Manufacturing in Sedalia, Missouri and you can purchase it here: asktractormike.com/products-for-sale/tractor-attachments/tree-shears-trimmers-and-pullers/.
Just curious. Have you ever tried replanting a tree that you've pulled, and has that tree survived? I'm looking to plant native trees, which I'd much rather pull out of an existing forest than to pay a nursery. Thanks!
Christopher, no I haven't, the trees I'm pulling I want rid of. If the ground were loose enough and it was a variety that was easy to transplant and you did it the right time of year, and it wasn't too damaged by the tree puller, it might work. When my wife and I were first married we tried to transplant an oak tree. That didn't work! Tap root goes on forever and we didn't get all of it and it didn't live. I think the tree puller would mess up the bark too much for most trees to survive, or at least the survival rate would be low. Best time to transplant deciduous trees is right before they start growing in the spring when they don't have leaves yet and the smaller the better. Larger trees have a much lower probability of making it. That's my experience anyway. Good luck, I hope you find the magic formula that works!
I use my grapple for most everything you said for the tree puller. The trick is getting ahold of it. I use large twine and wrap my grapple round pipe so it will not slide when trying to pull stuff. Give it a try. It might be suprised
I have the Titan Tree Puller and a L4701HST Kubota, and it works well, BUT, as you showed on your video, you have to be very CAREFUL when backing up and lifting on a larger tree! I too have had the rear end of my tractor lift up into the air, and higher than I cared for!!!
Hey Mike, do you have any idea what the loader lift capacity is on your tractor? I’ve got a little bobcat CT 235 that can only muster about 1200 pounds. I feel like that’s going to struggle breaking anything loose more than a couple inches in diameter especially with a stout implement hanging off of the quick attach.
Click this link, it's about 2/3rds of the way down: www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/006/4/2/6423-bobcat-ct235-attachments.html. Here's a video that I did recently that explains that topic more: ruclips.net/video/p-7o5LUiBOI/видео.html.
It would fit on and have enough power to close around the tree but I'm afraid the weight of the puller would take all the lift capacity and not leave enough for pulling trees.
Yes, either a third function or a diverter valve like this one which you can install yourself: asktractormike.com/product/hydraulic-diverter-valve-for-tractor/.
Isn't that what a backhoe is for? I guess it's a cleaver idea, but that money would probably be better spent toward a backhoe attachment or renting a excavator.

Good video Mike thank you. Good took to have.

That is a handy implement. That’s a tool that is going to be popular in my opinion.
Mike I agree my most used tool, I have a lot of woods, really gets the job done
Your videos are the best! I bought my first tract 2 weeks ago and I've been since searching for educational advice videos on a tractor and this whole channel is the best for that!

Thanks Mike. A tough piece of equipment. Have a fine week.
My first thought was that it would be great to use with trees that have poison Ivy all around it.
Nice product demo. Thanks

Good video 👍 agree it depends on the tree.... better than digging a big hole.....
First time I’ve seen that implement
Same here. It would be great to have to clear out scrubland. If combined with a PTO chipper it would be a poor man"s version of a skid steer foresty flail mulcher.
Using the bucket can work as well. Slightly below the top surface sink the bucket, then as you go forward, lift up slightly.
That looks very handy. Would of liked too see the manufacture make the whole claw unlock then rotate 90 degrees too get more use out of it grabbing logs for bucking etc .
Locust is my favorite trees
Hey Mike, great video. Does your paperwork say what tractor horsepower recommended?? Got a Kioti 3510 and need a implement similar to that. What's the manufacturer of that tool?? Living in western MD area.
This tool should made in such a way that you have the option too install pulling teeth or a shear edge as you need
Appears well made, I have an autumn olive issue. Is this a better tool for pulling out autumn olive
Bob, I have the same issue, don't you hate that plant? We're planning to do a video this winter showing the use of a tree puller, a tree shear and a grapple to get rid of Autumn Olive. I have no idea which one will work the best so I'm going into the process with an open mind. Stay tuned!
I'm sold. Time to start shopping

Wow who tractor mike video.... 7 am in Australia. Had plenty of rain

It's a New Holland TC40...40 hp.
@@TractorMike Thank you.
I like the tool, but am not sure it would be good for me. How expensive is it. I have remote for use with my raffle already.
Eric S. Duck, P.E.
I prefer explosives but it would be nice for multiflora rose bushes and vines.
Handy in a zombie apocolypse scenario too.
Can you tilt the bucket up using the shear to lever the tree out of the ground?

I have a New Holland TC30 where can I find tree puller that will work?
Mike how much hydraulics to pull out trees.
Man I could use one of those👍
Great job Mike thanks for the info
I didn't get where you bought that tree puller from
It's made by Precision Manufacturing in Sedalia, Missouri and you can purchase it here: asktractormike.com/products-for-sale/tractor-attachments/tree-shears-trimmers-and-pullers/.
Can you get this in Australia?
Hi Mike. Have you ever used a samuri saber bush cutter?
Just curious. Have you ever tried replanting a tree that you've pulled, and has that tree survived? I'm looking to plant native trees, which I'd much rather pull out of an existing forest than to pay a nursery. Thanks!

I read this comment about 6 times and still can't make any sense out of it.
It would be better if it was a 3 point attachment. That can lift more than the front loader hydros.
You could also grab onto and pull out old fence posts with one of these, right?
Kirk, yes you can, they're designed to pull up a t-post with minimal damage. I'll try to cover that in a future video.
I have the Titan Tree Puller and a L4701HST Kubota, and it works well, BUT, as you showed on your video, you have to be very CAREFUL when backing up and lifting on a larger tree!
I too have had the rear end of my tractor lift up into the air, and higher than I cared for!!!
If you had raised the trees then let them fall, it would leave more dirt behind and fill in the hole
Can it work on removing steel T-post fence post or wooden post like barb wire fence?
Steve, yup, it's designed to extract a steel t-post with minimal damage to the post. I'll show that in a future video.
Mike, is that a subframe under your tractor for the loader?
Is it JD compatible and cost?
Hey Mike, do you have any idea what the loader lift capacity is on your tractor? I’ve got a little bobcat CT 235 that can only muster about 1200 pounds. Will it work on a Kubota B2650 and what Hydraulic Flow is needed for it to be effective?
It would fit on and have enough power to close around the tree but I'm afraid the weight of the puller would take all the lift capacity and not leave enough for pulling trees.
What make and model is that
Precision Gator 525: asktractormike.com/product/gator-525-535-tree-puller/
That is a nice looking implement, but I will work with my tractor pulling my small trees up out of the ground and hauling them away as it is easier.
Do u have the link to ur tractor top
Yessir...here it is: asktractormike.com/product/rhinohide-tractor-canopy/
Made a homemade version
Only good for smaller trees. Then bog disc over the holes.
👍
Do you need 3rd function valve to operate it?
Yes, either a third function or a diverter valve like this one which you can install yourself: asktractormike.com/product/hydraulic-diverter-valve-for-tractor/.
Really, who the hell has "a problem' with sixty year old grape Vines ,?
👍👏👏👏
Here's the whole thing they are not trees... That is what I consider brush... Even though removing brush like that would be handy
Isn't that what a backhoe is for? I guess it's a cleaver idea, but that money would probably be better spent toward a backhoe attachment or renting a excavator.
Goats......
