@@theunitedkingdom Yeah, but he was coming up in the Capitol and his ideas directly influenced the course of the games by then, after what he did in the 10th Hunger Games. They don't mean he became president then, but Snow did gain a lot of favor right after the 10th.

25:47 he IS being somewhat genius here. because to a dictator, plutarch’s plan of broadcasting fear/katniss/fear makes sense. but in reality, to a rebellious force already at the breaking point, such a drastic push from the capital is just what they need to tip into full blown uprising. snow even said it himself in the last movie that a little hope is essential for maintaining control, and yet here his fear drives him to crush that very tentative hope people had. so, yeah, plutarch is playing him here. and it’s so satisfying to watch.
but at the same time, it’s also already hinting at district 13 leaders’ to be just like snow. if plutarch, one of the leaders of the rebellion, is willing to brutalize and sacrifice innocent people to further his cause
There is a penalty for acting out in the games. Haymitch is so jaded bc in his Games he made the Capital look foolish. The Capital’s response- they killed Haymitch’s family and his girlfriend. Then they made him mentor young children from his district every year after, and every one except Katniss and Peeta died. That’s why even when inside the Games there are punishments that the Capital can and will execute. You may be dying regardless, but your actions can also cause the deaths of everyone you love.
Also, Johanna wouldn't do what the Capitol wanted after her Hunger Games win, so they punished her by killing everyone in her family. That's why she said "There's no one left that I love."
Regarding the gold items symbolizing them as a team (Mockingjay pin for Katniss, medallion for Peeta, bangle for Haymitch, and Effie's hair), I always also think about another member of their team; Cinna. Cinna had the gold eyeliner. Looking forward to the next reaction!!
Just as an fyi, Gale didn't want to be chosen for the last game. He wanted to not watch them bc he knows that the games are only powerful because they attract everyone's attention and terrify them so they stay complacent.
Haymitch himself said that if Peeta volunteers for him then there's nothing he can do about it, once someone volunteers for the chosen one it's done. Think that when Katniss volunteered for Prim, Prim didn't want that and started to scream no, no one asked her if she wanted to go anyway, it was just done, someone offered to go in her place so that's it, those are the rules.
And there is one volunteer limit - likely, because there have been disputes on who goes. Ironically probably caused by the career districts, where there is a bottleneck of people who want to go in vs two people that are allowed every year.
Also talking about volunteering - I kinda wish to see a rewrite of this Quarter Quell, but Lucy Gray fully old and over with her life sneaks into 12 after the rules announcement, just to volunteer for Katniss (to both save a young girl and to mock Snow).
The explanation in the movie is not very clear, but the Quarter Quells were not invented to bring Katniss back into the arena. There were already two Quarter Quells before (the 25th Games, where residents had to vote for the tributes to be sent, and the 50th Games, which Haymitch won, where there were 48 tributes instead of 24). That's why the Capitol was already prepared for this edition; they probably just changed the rule at the last moment to be able to eliminate Katniss and Peeta.
The girl who wanted to volunteer was from District 4. In the books the Careers, or the people who train their children for the games and are brainwashed into believing that the greatest thing you can do is to win the games, is District 1, 2 and 4.
While you're right about the Careers, the girl was not from district 4. Katniss is wearing a different outfit in district 4, and the stage is different. But i guess they could be in 2?
@@joana8615 No she is from District 4. It says so in the shooting script. EXT . DISTRICT FOUR SQUARE - DAY A crowd applauds as Katniss and Peeta step on the stage, smiling and waving , A pair of FLOWER GIRLS (8) hand them bouquets, As Peeta steps to the microphone, Katniss's Flower Girl looks up to her with star-struck eyes ... FLOWER GIRL one day, I'm going to volunteer, like you did I didn't notice it being a different outfit but in the books they do have different outfits for the ceremony and the dinners?
@joana8615 No. You're correct on speculating it wasn't 4. The girl would have to be from District 3 (Beetee and Wireress district which produced IT luxury goods). The girl couldn't have been from 2 (or 1) since those districts were 100% career, fiercely loyal to the Capitol (by geographic proximity and default of providing the Capitol with 100% Peacekeepers for all the districts. Also 1 and 2 enjoyed a better relationship with Capitol because (like District 3) they produced the most expensive/precious luxury goods (like marble and jewelry). Compared to District 12 which produced worthless coal. Ironically, the Capitol showed more favoritism towards districts which provided them with luxury commodities like 1,2 and 3 (the electronics/tech sector) than it did with basic goods (food from farming/fishing/husbandry in districts 11, 4 and 10. Or textiles in District 8 that made the Peacekeeper uniforms). TBH fishing district #4 was only popular with Capitol as a career district because of winners like Finnick and Mags who put them on the map. Lol.
a combo that ends up looking very ethnicaly ambiguous, so mistaking him for Indian was not that far off. Also, it would have been hilarious if the "tech guy" was Indian
And the fact that she would see a person instead of a turkey🤔. I’m not saying that people can’t predict stuff but it’s a little too specific and it’s making me a little sus. It’s okay if you’ve seen the movie before and don’t remember too much but just say so
@sophia21s most of his guesses weren't huge leaps. PTSD is a pretty common thing in these types of stories, and Plutarch's line of "maybe I was inspired by you to come back" could have been a give away for his allegiance.
@@toddmaliepaard9777 it’s not the fact that he guessed that she had PTSD, it’s the fact that he immediately said there would be a man instead of a turkey. And a lot of people are on the fence with Plutarch, they go back and forth on him and his allegiance. Most people aren’t certain, it’s the certainty that’s sus.
Mags is the victor of 11th Hunger Games. She is the first victor to have prize money, victory tour and live in the victor’s village. It is also the 11th Hunger Games where they make it mandatory to watch.
43:56 if that’s the tribute I’m thinking of, the guy puking is one of the people who self medicated after the games. Coming back in they had to go cold turkey so not only are they having to train, they’re training going through withdrawals. In the books, after they found out the victors were being chosen, Peeta motivated katniss and haymitch to physically prepare the few weeks they had before the reaping
The Jabberjays were using the voices of the people Finnick and Katniss loved, screaming in terror. Neither could figure out where the screams had been gotten from if they didn't have these loved ones in custody. However, if you compare Prim's screams to her screams at the beginning of the first movie, they are identical. This means that the houses are wired for audio pick up back in the districts. It's probably something no one knew, but the Capitol could use these recordings whenever they wished for later use (or to figure out who was seditious and plotting against them). At least, that's my theory. How did they get Annie's? Well, as a survivor of the games, she had nightmares as often as any of the others, which is why she would have been caught screaming on. This is a personal theory I don't think was confirmed in the books.
In the books, Beetee explains that grade-schoolers in District 3 are taught the basics of creating what are basically deepfakes, including manipulating audio. It's likely that the Capitol employed District 3 workers to use audio of Prim speaking during the 74th Games interviews (since when you survive to the final 8, your family and friends at home get interviewed during your games) to create fake screams. I bet you're right that they had to do less work to manipulate screams for Annie-- it's said in the books that she broke down mentally during and immediately after her games, so those probably are real/unedited or minimally-edited screams.
There is an age limit on normal games, but on this quarter quell, the rules were saying the tributes would be picked from the existing pool of victors, regardless of age and state of health.
Yeah, bc that included Peeta, who in the books, was an amputee during the quarter quell. I don’t remember if there is are health exceptions on the kids normally.
Yes they always collect the bodies of dead tributes. If other tributes are in close proximity to the body, the hovercraft can’t collect them immediately, so during that time, nearby tributes often strip the bodies of any supplies or weapons. Once the bodies are retrieved, they’re cleaned up, redressed, and sent back to their families in wooden boxes. Dead tributes’ DNA has be taken and used to create mutts, like the dogs at the end of the first movie. In the book, each of the mutts bears a very strong resemblance to a fallen tribute and wears a collar with their district number on it. Collecting the bodies also helps prevent cannibalism, which isn’t technically against any rules in the games, but the capitol citizens tend to find it gross. There was one tribute, Titus, who resorted to cannibalizing his victims and ended up being pretty infamous for it. The gamemakers had to electrically stun him so the hovercrafts could retrieve bodies before he ate them. He died during an avalanche, and many believe that the Gamemakers set this up so Titus could not win, due to how disturbed capitol citizens were by his acts.
The problem in the first movie with Katniss being too close to the edge is that they said she was too far from the closest tribute, and they obviously just want to give a show so don't want tributes to be far away from the rest being "at peace", they want them to find each other and fight, that's why they made the fire, so she would run away and get to the path they wanted, where she met with Cato and his team.
Peeta got done dirty in the movie. A clear example of Peeta’s down grade and Gale’s up grade character wise in the movie occurs in Catching Fire from the whipping to the reaping. In the movie: She greets Gale near the hob and the Peace Keepers start burning it so he attacks a Peacekeeper to stop them resulting in his whipping. Haymitch talks Thread down and Peeta is seen in between Katniss and Haymitch. Mrs. Everdeen and Prim treat Gale. Katniss kisses Gale and promises to stay. Quarter Quell is announced. Katniss runs. Haymitch and Katniss make a deal to protect Peeta in the Quell. Katniss kisses Gale in the meadow before heading to the Quarter Quell reaping. In the book. Katniss meets Gale at the cabin to convince him to run with he agrees then he tells Katniss he loves her and she deflects it. She makes it clear running includes Peeta and Haymitch. Gale gets pissed off the plan includes Peeta then gets upset insinuating she wouldn’t leave without Peeta but would leave without him. He then calls her out for not staying and fighting with no understanding of what position she in and low key calls her something made by the capital. Katniss runs into on the way back from the cabin she meets up with Peeta who agrees to go with her but does not believe she will leave. Peeta recognizes the sound of leather on skin realizes it is Gale being whipped tells Katniss to go home and he would meet her there. Peeta then is part of Haymitch defusing the situation. It is explained Gale went to Cray’s house to sell a turkey but finds Thread who whips Gale for illegally poaching on capital land. Katniss declares she choose Gale and that he is hers and she is his she then kisses Gale and says she is going to stay to fight. When Mrs. Everdeen comments on how people react when someone they love is in pain and Katniss starts spiraling about what that means and hoping Gsle doesn’t remember the kiss. When Peeta tells her he’ll stay with Gale and to go to bed Katniss has to remind herself she can’t ask Peeta to stay with her because she choose Gale and Peeta is the Capital’s choice. When she Katniss wakes up she worries about Peeta having to walk three houses down in the snow so she calls to check on him. Katniss meets Bonnie and Twill at the cabin and she gets injured returning because fence’s electricity got turned on. Peeta and Haymutch help convince Peacekeepers that Katniss wasn’t in the wood by improvising to which she comments nothing throws Peeta and Haymitch which is why they have survived so long. Once Mrs Everdeen treats Katniss injuries with sleep syrup her inhibitions are lowered so Katniss asks Peeta to stay with her when he carries her up stairs to bed. Peeta and Katniss spend time updating her family plant book while she is recovering and Katniss becomes fascinated with watching Peeta work to the point there is a paragraph about his eyelashes. Quarter Quell is announced Katniss runs off to wallow till she realizes either Haymitch or Peeta will be in the Arena with her so she goes to Haymitch to strike a deal to save Peeta because he is the better person out of the three of them and it’s Peeta’s turn to be saved. Next morning Peeta throws out all the liquor threatening Katniss and Haymitch into getting their acts together and Peeta makes them train like careers. Katniss resents Peeta for not showing her any type of affection during training opting instead to make them train harder and eat more. Gale shows up on Sundays to help with the career training Peeta has them doing at which point Gale comments that everything would be easier if Peeta was easier to hate to which Katniss agrees. When Gale asks Katniss where they would be if Peeta hadn’t survived the arena she reply’s hunting on Sunday like always. Then the reaping happens.
District 13 lead the revolution before the Hunger Games began, it was obliterated (or at least that’s what the Capitol told everyone) but every district took part in the rebellion. The Capitol won and started the Hunger Games. Also Mags won the 11th Hunger Games.
1:25:58 I've watched this scene a few times and never thought about it until you mentioned it. Then I did some research... and he really was trying to break the wall with the electric shock. Half (or more) of the tributes were aware of the plan in the revolution. They had to keep Katniss and Peeta alive until Beetee carried out his plan to escape from there. 😮. That's why the 6th tribute threw herself in front of the monkeys and died, she sacrificed herself for Peeta.
I think the 3-finger salute is allowed in District 12 because it's a traditional salute at funerals there. In the other districts, it's not a part of the culture so it's just considered an anti-Capital demonstration.
As a wife, I agree she is beautiful and your wife would probably agree with me on Gale , Peeta and Finnick being handsome 😂❤ Btw, just discovered your channel and been binge watching Harry Potter! Please do Back to the future trilogy and Lord of the rings if you haven't or haven't watched already!
‘At least it doesn’t leave any scars or stuff’ 😂 In the book, the poisoned fog left horribly itchy scabs all over. Haymitch sent a parachute of ointment that helped, but it was dark green. The book describes them as looking horrible with green, scabby spots and wearing tattered clothes as the poison ate holes all over. 😂 Also, in the book Peeta actually lost his leg from the sword injury infection in the first games. So he only had one leg in the second game, making it more difficult for him to run from the fog.
I don't know if it's ever actually happened in the history of the hunger games, but if a Victor has children, their children are not immune from going into the hunger games as a tribute when they turn 12 and they would have to keep putting their name in until they're 18. The thing is is if you've got the money of a Victor your name's only going to be in their once per year so the most it'll ever be in there is when you're 18 cuz each year your name goes in an extra time. The reason Gail's name was in their 40. Something times was he was 18 and he took food every year for himself, his mom and his siblings
I'm sorry to report that the actor who portrays Beetee, Jeffrey Wright, is not Indian in descent by my reckoning. He's Dominican/Afro Latino though, so Christopher Columbus might count it as Indian.
By the way, fun fact! Stanley Tucci, the man who plays Cesar Flickerman, when reading and getting into his role had a set of fake teeth made. Hence why they look so crazy!
For whistling with your mouth, it's how you pursue your air inflow and outtake and how you shape your tongue. You push-up against the roof of your mouth only lightly and you let air go through and you push it out with your gut. It's kind of hard to do for most people that never done. I've been whistling since I was a little kid. So it comes naturally to me. But I can't do the two finger whistle or the one with the leaf or chase say blade of grass.
Having read and reread the books I believe Katniss did have feelings for Peeta in the Hunger Games that confused her, but it’s in the quiet moments in Catching Fire that the movie did not include that Katniss fell in love with Peeta and she fell hard (“I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him. I've seen flashes of this before: in the arena, or when he speaks to a crowd, or that time he shoved the Peacekeepers' guns away from me in District 11. I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.”) There is a change in Katniss’ narration shortly after Gales whipping where Katniss stopped referring to the lover’s act when speaking of affection with Peeta and started just being. At the end of the book Catching Fire Katniss says “I trusted him [Haymitch]. I put what was precious [Peeta] in Haymitch's hands and he has betrayed me.”
Mags won the 11th, annie won the 70th, Beetee won the 33rd, Wiress won the 44th, Finnick won the 65th, Peeta/Katniss won the 74th, Johanna won the 71st
37:30 Movie implies that they changed the rules for who gets reaped - the original 3rd Quarter Quell likely had some other rule (or it had an empty envelope and was meant to be used by Snow to punish people). In first QQ districts voted for the tributes. In second (Haymitch won it) there were twice as many people. This one probably was on the same note, if it had prewritten rules. This is one of the deadliest arenas to date and it's heavily inspired by the war between Capitol and Rebels, so for me it was meant to be a survival game and the group reaped was assumed to be strong. Maybe they would require people to volunteer? Maybe the pool was from all the adults (the war was fought by the adults - and the arena symbolises their atrocities). Maybe it was the parents of the reaped children? Or it was from the pool of people saved by the volunteering. Possibilities are endless. Plutarch did volunteer not long after Katniss won - as they have to prepare the arena through one year. So he definitely already made some of it knowing that he would have all the victors inside. 53:30 Well not every pregnancy is successful. Also you bet that Snow would use this - he would eliminate every single victor and then have some random stolen baby be the actual victor of this QQ, pretending to be Katniss baby. A perfect indoctrinated victor they could mold for next decades. 1:00:10 The irony is - I wouldn't be suprised, if Snow wanted Haymitch to go in and this was direct reference to the second QQ. Haymitch abused the end-arena barrier to win the games (and he was punished for it). Here the barrier was part of the traps. 1:04:20 She won 11th. She won by out swimming her opponents. The whole arena was flooded and full of deadly sharks. 1:07:00 So this normally wouldn't be as big of an issue, but it's actually way more dire. Movie skips the part, where Peeta actually has prosthetic leg (he lost it in first games) and with this being only hours after his heart stopped from the shock, he is barely moving. 1:11:00 In books Peeta bonds with Morphlings through art, as they are renown painters (aside being addicts). She actively sacrifices herself here, as she was one of the people on the plan. Peeta and Katniss needed to survive and she knew she wouldn't survive on her own either way, not with the withdrawal symptoms.
Your not wrong the first host of the hunger games was a flickerman probably his dad or grandfather, in the songbirds and snakes movie he looks so similar and has a similar vibe but hes newer at it so hes kinda winging it

Finnick my beloved 🫰🏼🥺, Effie my fashion queen, Johanna my fierce queen, Haymitch my drunk king. I’d wish this series continued with more movies about the champions.
"What would they do, destroy all the other districts?!" yes.... yes they would. That's how we even ended up here, the districts rebelled and the Capitol fought them all and established the Hunger Games, to keep them in line. The districts certainly can't be as big, or populous, as before the war.
Catching fire is my favorite book and movie of the whole series. Just learning everything about the different districts and about the victors was incredible. My favorite two were Beetee (District 3) and Finnick (District 4). I also love Johanna but she scares me even though she works for the rebellion.

i came to defend my man Peeta😤😤 the reason why most people think he is weak during this movie is because in the books, he loses his leg right after the last hunger games, making this literaly a year after becoming an amputee so he is still adjusting
40:28 I swear homie said Bruce Willis and not Rue’s village. I was confused for a hot minute. Like, what is this man on about? What does Bruce Willis have to do with this discussion? 😂😂 Makes sense now, though.
Also, there was quite a bit of nudity in the games and in the taking care of Gail and katniss is super uncomfortable with that. Although her little sister Prince could not care less. If there's a naked man around she does not give a f*** but katniss gets super embarrassed. So that's kind of why the older people at the games, the older tributes and the mentors were picking on her like that. Why that older black guy whose name I can never remember kissed her and why? Joanna got naked in the elevator and by the way, she actually did apparently get naked. I imagine not completely naked. I imagine there was something covering her breasts and some sort of an undetype thing since they didn't show all her parts, but apparently they were filming in a place that had other people around and she didn't realize that. So she was pretty humiliated that additional people were seeing things when they were filming. Yeah, never mind the fact that millions of people have seen the movie
Okay I’m glad I’m not the only one, I’m 3 mins in and I think i’m just gonna skip this one. I hate when reactors do that, it takes me out of it when they start “guessing ” specific details
White Gail calls her catnip is because he he met her when I think he was 14 and she was 12. It was not long after her dad died and they ran into each other while hunting just outside of the district and he asked who are you? She kind of mumbled katniss and he misheard it as catnip and has been calling her that playfully ever since. But to be honest that girl attracts him like catnip
I also love how dude in the white hat scoffed at the idea of the games next participants being past winners when other buddy suggested it at the very beginning... ...Only for white hat to later claim he was the one who put forth the idea when they actually DID reap from past winners. LMFAO Narcissistic tendencies confirmed 😂
About the Avatar parallel... I guess they had to tune down the violence or the overall evilness even on the fire benders to still be a kids show.. But there is some resemblance, the fire nation extinguished the air nomads, like the Capitol did to district 12... And if you think about it when it comes to real life we should remember that in medieval ages the population would often like to see people be executioned at public places, and particullarly on the Roman Empire we have the example of the Coliseum where everyone loved to gather in one place to see people fight to the death and kill exotic creatures... The hunger games is just the thecnologycal version of it, like a death reality show
"I could never get used to the differences in the lifestyle." You already are. How different do the people in The Capital look from award show attendees? Or celebs at the Met Gala?
As a side note, because it is not explained in the movies : the first Quarter Quell had the districts voting each for their two tributes, and the second (the ones Haymitch won) had twice as many tributes reaped. The twist of the third Quarter Quell was obviously forged and changed at the last second because the condition could finally be met with Katniss becoming the only living female victor of District 12, when all other districts had at least one living winner of each sex. Useless to say that the Capitol wanted her to die a convenient way or make her look like a hypocrite by killing other tributes when she was supposed to embody the rebellion of the districts united against the Capitol, but this backfired as it destroyed the very purpose of the Games - to give hope to the victors and their district by making them safe from the Games ever again and feeding the district better for a whole year - and by turning the citizens against the government since they grew fond of the victors they managed to make win.

No the explanation is clear. He out right says what is the quarter quell. It just goes over there heads is all.
@@tobex6626 Yeah but it’s still explained better in the books
I feel like they could’ve done some text on the screen like at the beginning of the first movie
I a mom o
The movie clearly never leads to believe they were created for Katniss, not with Snow's speech, he says it clearly. These guys got it.
@@joana8615I thought they were talking about mags though??
pretty sure that girls from 2 no?
@@joana8615 No she is from District 4. It says so in the shooting script.
EXT . DISTRICT FOUR SQUARE - DAY
A crowd applauds as Katniss and Peeta step on the stage,
smiling and waving , A pair of FLOWER GIRLS (8) hand them
bouquets, As Peeta steps to the microphone, Katniss's Flower
Girl looks up to her with star-struck eyes ...
FLOWER GIRL
one day, I'm going to volunteer,
like you did
I didn't notice it being a different outfit but in the books they do have different outfits for the ceremony and the dinners?
Lol.
Katniss gave hope to the people
Peeta gave hope to Katniss
Peeta and Katniss are the best dystopian couple ever❤❤
Jeffrey Wright aka Beetee is of African American and Hispanic descent…😂 great reaction 👍🏽
😂😂 I was cracking up at that

the way you predicted the plot twist (a hunger games with just the victors) before it was even announced lol
A little weird tbh since he also predicted Plutarch's arc
@@sophia21she could’ve guessed everything easily or just have seen pieces of the movie here and there and subconsciously remember
Mags is the victor of 11th Hunger Games. She is the first victor to have prize money, victory tour and live in the victor’s village. It is also the 11th Hunger Games where they make it mandatory to watch.
Johanna is the ax lady. The one who died is one of the camouflaging ones
I didn't even consdier that that's a really good theory 😮
This movie is so WELL DONE. God, I love it! Katniss is such a powerfull exemple of a rebel. Just love her.
In the movie:
She greets Gale near the hob and the Peace Keepers start burning it so he attacks a Peacekeeper to stop them resulting in his whipping.
I think Mags won the 11th annual games she volunteered for Annie who was mentally ill from her horrific experience in her games she won
Caesar Flickerman and Claudius Templesmith were the announcers. The actor playing Claudius was the voice of Dobby the Elf.
It has and Katniss thinks that they rig it on purpose so the kids get chosen on purpose
@@bandlover341yeah that’s why it took her so long to have kids with Peeta

53:13 At that time, when I watched it, I had a glass of water in my hand. I almost dropped it lol😂
Huh? 😭That actor is visibly and CLEARLY black (African american) not Indian😭🤣
My boy Peeta is too good for this world!!
Say it louder for the people in the back !!
Omg yes yes yes yes yes!!
She definitely started having feelings for him in the first arena but she was just really confused
Anyone laugh hard when they talked about how fucked up it would be to to have all the victors fight? Cuz i did
These guys just kept calling everything out😆
Catnip is Gale's nickname for Katniss

"What would they do, destroy all the other districts?!" yes.... yes they would. That's how we even ended up here, the districts rebelled and the Capitol fought them all and established the Hunger Games, to keep them in line. The districts certainly can't be as big, or populous, as before the war.
