  • In this video I show you how to grease the bearings in your full suspension mountain bike. I have greased hundreds of bearings this way between motocross and bicycles, it has worked amazing for me so far.

    What he doesn't mention in this video. There are 2 bearings in each side. So in the rear lower triangle there would be a total of 4 bearings. 2 press-in beside each other. If you look at the owners manual for your specific model you will see the bearings kit and the included number of each as well as a schematic of their location and number. I also found out that these bearings alot of the time are standard bearings that can be purchased at your local bearing shop. Knowing the bearing kit specifics will get you want you need. Good video over all but I immediately knew this information. Do your research. Keep shredding my guy

      Thanks for pointing that out. It wasn’t supposed to be for this specific bike it was more just the act of pulling the shield off and re greasing it.

      When I finally had courage to tear down my Spech Camber Comp MTB frame I was surprised to find the bearings were not completely shot. Even the one taking most load/wear at main pivot was still able to be cleaned, greased and re-assembled to torque specs without any headaches. I bought a long nozzle grease gun which is imperative. I was cycnial about not replacing until I saw prices for extractor tools. Even two tools (if available) runs over $100 for 12mm/15mm ID tools. The cheap one I bought failed so this was welcome news. I will have to do the whole thing eventually but bike runs great, no squeeks or weird knocks. Bearings were dirty, short of grease and definetely suffering. Behold cheap marine grease.

    Interesting to note that you made a point of the arc through which the suspension loads the bearing but you did not take the bearing out and re zone it to present an unworn outer race to that arc position. If anyone decides to do this I would recommend using a permanent marker to mark the load zone on the outer race because when you take it out it will drop on the floor and you'll have no idea which area was the old load zone!

    cool video.
    My 17 year old Norco (with Specialized rear setup) is getting new bearings in today at the shop as they were worn out past maintenance. And yes, on one of the pivot, there are 2 BB side by side. Good news is that they are nothing fancy and my shop can get 10$/pc (from China) vs 35$ if from the USA.

    Completely prep the bearing first be fore removing seals. Tooth brush and cleaning fluid. Then remove the seals on both sides. I use brake cleaner to blow then out 100% of any debris. Let dry, clean the seals then repack and reseal. This way they last much longer.
    This was q rookie job

    would like to see more vids like this but you could definitely refine it a little. maybe go into more detail about taking off the swingarm / putting it back on and cut down on some of the wasted time. would make these kinds of vids a little more comprehensive, as opposed to tuning in with the job half done already. Good vid tho!

    • @livefreeandshred9818

      The monarch plus is pretty good. If money wasnt an option I would go with the ohlins coil. If you do go with the monarch I would suggest ditching the autosag and get the debonair can. The stock CTD was horrible. And I'm having the same issues with the DPS on my 19 stumpjumper and ordering an ohlins tomorrow

      @@livefreeandshred9818 is your primary issue having enough bottom out resistance?

    • @livefreeandshred9818
      @livefreeandshred9818  6 лет назад

      Yes. That is the issue. I would have to use massive volume spacers and low sag % numbers to get bottom out resistance and then it would have no compliance on the small things

    2) why didnt you take them out to clean properly?

      @@livefreeandshred9818 I just wonder what happens to dirt when you degrease it if it cannot 'escape' through the other side... it effectively still sits in the bearing. Man, those 'double' bearings are pain to service, difficult to take out as well

    Please don't do this. You need to fully clean the bearings, then you lubricate them. And you should not be touching the lube to the bearing itself, that's a great way to contaminate your grease and contaminate every single thing thereafter. You can ruin bearings that were perfectly fine.
