- Sheepshead fishing using live shrimp is very challenging, because the shrimp are really delicate on the hook. If you do not set the hook at the exact right time, Sheepshead can and will steal the bait. Today I learned to always have a good sharp hook on your jig and always use the lightest jig you can get away with where the water current does not take it away, easier to feel the bite that way. Anticipate the bite and always be ready to set the hook at the slightest of taps that you feel. This day was challenging, but managed to figure them out.

I’m from the north east and love going to south west Florida for the sheepshead. Some of the best tasting fish I’ve ever had.

Looked like a good time! I really enjoy fishing like that so relaxing! Sheepshead are so good! That dish at the end looked awesome. They are good to make fish cakes out of too, taste like crab cakes!! Good job buddy!!
I tried them air fried, pan fried, and baked. Next time I wanna make fish cakes, good idea. Oh and deep fried too. The meat was incredible. White, flakey and mild tasting, with a little butter I pretended I was eating crab meat. Thanks Marsh-Mechanic!

We need to perfect the artificial shrimp that those sheeps will hit as readily as real shrimp.

I should try a vudu shrimp with some procure, if that works, that would be a game changer. If not, I think I’ll bring some cheap bait shrimp next time, just to see. Live shrimp is nice, but I cringe a little every time I miss a bite. There goes 50 cents lol. Thanks for watching !
