      @Dave-ur5ub 2 года назад +3

      Bro,if you see this...That's the reason I'm jumping on this comment to start with...You should build a set of wheels that fold down on either side of the very back of the trailer that will drop down from the frame that will lock in place about an inch off of the ground when lowered..This will prevent the back of the trailer from dragging when the main axles lift off of the ground due to the terrain....That's what I did and they work great...I actually put a third axle that swings up and down and locks in place either up or down on my ATV trailer..The rear tires are actually a little shorter than the main two axles tires are...Which is basically a 16 ft all steel car trailer that's been converted.
      EDIT: I also used a piece of 1/4 inch steel as a rock slider/skid plate for the back behind the main rear axle wheels and on the front frame of the trailer where the tongue and all are for when the trucks going up but the trailers still at the bottom of a groove going down.

      Yea but money over brains with that 60k jeep plus 20k of add ons and he broke it only because he doesn't know how to offroad. Nowadays with youtube & websites he should of spent a few days researching how to offroad and what not to do. #1 had front locker off, #2 allowed front axle to hop (he had said both of these) and #3 (unconfirmed but likely) had the wheel at a high degree of angle. With stock axles/etc it is a big no-no to do #2 OR #3 at WOT either will cause this problem of broken axle or knuckle or similar part. Heck even over built cars you can but should avoid doing this - axle hop and you should stop and re-plan your line and if you need WOT and dont have axle hope you have to reduce max power depending the angle of your wheels (slight turn maybe 80% of WOT, if you have the wheels fully turn then maybe 30% of WOT. So I find it dumb to do this since he is 'new' as he said and didn't do basic research. However he did say he had a diesel which there might not be a ton of info that explains since they make power so low in the rpm range (tq not hp) you have to even be more careful of axle hope and turning to power level. Either way, end of the day he has money and isn't worried about stuff like that which means he can afford not to care or do research which I can respect.

      We all probably look at these videos and initially think "man, look at that expensive truck, getting stuck in the mud/snow , or busting something. Then getting bailed out by MORR in a couple of built-up old rigs. Dumbases" ,.........but the reality is that these folks are out there doing it and living a great life. And we're sitting watching it at home on RUclips. They might not have the experience or technical knowledge that a lot of commenters do ( by the sounds of it you are very knowledgeable about the subject , which I respect ) , but they are out there doing something , and learning from their mistakes. This guy might maybe get a different vehicle next time, or do some research before doing a similar thing again. Think it's a bit unfair to call it money over brains.... you can spend your whole life researching stuff online.....or you can get out there and do it , mess up , and have fun.

    Hell of a recovery. Great job! With or without a wrecker I think you shold add an off road trailer to your arsenal. One with over sized off road tires, that sits high above the ground and a couple of winches on it. With ramps that fold up, so it won't hit everything when you're heading out.

    • @dartmoordave
      @dartmoordave 2 года назад

      Gotta watch a high C of G though, theres a bit of a trade off so it doesn't roll over too easy when loaded. He's got to get through that tunnel as well.

    • @aphextwin5712
      @aphextwin5712 2 года назад +1

      There is a trade-off with this as well. A taller trailer with longer ramps is likely going to be a bit wider and longer which can make manoeuvring it more difficult. And it also will be a bit heavier; seeing how much they struggled getting up that hill, extra weight is a factor they have to consider.

      For off-road mapping apps like Maprika or OnX, a tablet is essential. Jeep would do well to partner with one to offer a UConnect version (if they don't already) for Jeeps with built in screens, but even then a tablet is more flexible. I need to get a good mount for my 97 Wrangler, having it flop around on the passenger seat is not ideal...

    Trailer really needs to be made "fit for purpose". More suspension travel, bigger wheels, extra ground clearance - the Morrvair of trailers. There will still be times when you need a trailer as well as the big wrecker.
