  • Well it's no secret that I am a huge fan of the Peak kites in the Flysurfer lineup. So, also no surprise about my excitement with the release of a single skin/closed cell combo kite that relaunches from the water. In this video, the Flysurfer team takes us through the background, application, and technical performance of the Hybrid kite.

    Hi, very interesting, thank you. It raises a few questions though:
    1- I can foil down to about 7kts with a SS UFO 9m (strutless LEI), what would be the foiling low end of the Hybrid and what size would be required to foil in, say 4+ KTS if that's possible?
    2- What are the upwind performances? The Peak flies in no wind but seems lacking in upwind performance.
    3- This concept is the same as Gin's Marabou. The Marabou 1 was not a success and was completely redesigned. The Marabou 2 was released earlier this year, a comparison would be great.
    4- In the Ultra light wind (< 8kts) foiling category, it seems the players are the Hyperlink, the Peak5, The Soul, the Chrono and possibly the UFO V2 in 11m. Could you do a video on ultra light wind foiling comparing those different kites?

    • @mikemiller774
      @mikemiller774 Год назад +4

      If you can do a 7kts on LEI 9m(!) why even bother with Hybrid? Soul in 12 would cover anything else for you.

      @@mikemiller774 That's what I'm trying to find out. I live on an island without any shop or opportunity to test gear and what I see online varies wildly. Some people use large size foil kites (15-20m) , some people say that in super light wind you need single skin kites like the Peaks, some people say Hyperlinks would be better because they fly in lighter winds and fly faster than the Soul and have better upwind than the Peaks and some ppl say the UFO 11m would actually go down to 4-5 kts... Then there's the hybrids (both the Flysurfer one and the Gin Marabou 2). So I'm trying to figure it out from people who are actually using those kites.

    "relaunchability" in flat water, OK, but what about a wave going over it when it's down? The Peak's drifting ability makes it the absolute weapon of choice for wave-riding on a foil, but once you drop it and it gets hit by a wave, forget it, you're swimming in. I doubt this new hybrid would be any better? Would be nice to see some footage if it is.

    • @TheOKKiteboarder

    Had a bad experience this summer with a peak. Crashed the kite would not relauch and submerged and turned into a fishing net. If I wasn't 200m from shore and the wind was stronger I would have had to cut my lines and abandon the kite. Turned into an anchor. Haven't flow any foil kites since

      Yep spent to much time trying to relaunch before wrapping up lines. I had about a minute window before it submerged. Great kite when it's in the air. The five sessions prior to my kitemare where alot of fun. I recommend using a good flotation vest and having support boats on standby just in case. Swimming a wet rag to shore was no fun

    • @ieism1
      @ieism1 Год назад +1

      I take my peaks out as far as i can swimm, about 2 miles with an inflatable restube. When it crashes and doesn't relaunch you want to make sure your not keeping line tension under water or the kite will "fly" down underwater especially in waves. So be quick, or prepared to leave the kite.

    • @Lack0
      @Lack0 Год назад

      I see many struggle to wind up the 21m lines in time. Has anybody tried the peak with really short lines like 10m? I assume the relaunch would be much easier. One might use a bigger size peak though.
