There are so many videos out there showing caulking, tiling, etc. But you guys show what's needed and explain why your doing it the way you do to obtain the desired end results. Thank you Tommy's Yard!
I am a licensed plumber of 30 years and do bathroom remodeling and also restore tubs and showers. I use this method all the time and it always gives you clean sharp lines. Great vid. Charles
Very helpful video. I left the tape on overnight and removed following day - catastrophic - silicone feathering! Key learning point for me is the need to remove tape 'immediately' after applying mastic. Thanks again!!
Sir, Thank you so much. For the very first time in my whole life I have been able to silicone the countertop in my kitchen, without creating a real mess. Your method works well, it is clean, and really nice to do. Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Thank you from Québec, Canada! Best, Pierre
Great. I was looking for the right method, saw this, followed it and the results are perfect. The explanation is clear and easy to follow, camera work really helps. Good job, Thank you very much for saving me time and frustration!
I have no idea why there are so many thumbs down for this. it's so simple it's genius. I've made so mant messes doing this in the past. I wish I'd seen this vid years ago!
Too many armchair "experts" colin, you see the idiots criticising loads of videos on youtube, even knowing most of them cannot even use a screwdriver. Good video
Yes the silicone is waterproof. The curing time will depend on the product itself so always read the manufacturer's instructions. I would say at least 12 hours
Very helpful video. It was my first time doing my tub myself and I'm quite happy with the results. Only problem is I accidentally bought transparent silicone instead of white so I have to redo the tub again in a few months... But at least its not moldy anymore :)
Current registered Pennsylvania home improvement contractor. This is how I was taught, and so I've been using this same method for the last 10 years. Someday I'll graduate to doing it without the tape...no I won't.
if you only helped one guy like M PEFF , your video was worth it. thanks for posting up your video on doing it the correct way. been doing it that way for years.
This video has helped me so much. I had never removed and replaced sealant before, however, I have managed to do this after watching video. Thank you 😊🙋👍
Thank you for this video! For a single mom doing the remodeling myself, I love these type of instructional videos. I did not know the secret about the mineral spirits, thank you! Very simple and easy to follow....The tape makes sense to me, even if people skip this step. You don't have to go back over the caulk line to make it "straight"...Awesome!
OK so your saying you do it for a living and it takes 25 times longer BUT as you say you do it for a living! you can do it efficiently and quickly that's why this method would take YOU longer BUT for those of us who only need to do the odd job who are not used to it will and have found this method very very helpful and i think Tommy's Trade Secrets and Trade Supermarket are doing a fantasticly wonderful job teaching us Home Diy Folk how to save a few Quid thanks TTS & TS Keep up the good work
You are definitely experienced doing at caulking. So fast. Thanks for sharing and the tip of finger tips dipped in mineral spirits is the first for me. Thanks.
This is a perfect video.. You are really good at explaining the process without giving excessive info. I enjoyed it and you are obviously very good at what you do. Loved it.?
What also helps is running the bead of silicon and then spraying over the line with some soapy water from a spray bottle filled with dishwashing detergent and water "1:10 mix". This prevents the silicon from smudging or sticking to the tiles around the join. Thus eliminating the need for masking tape
M Peff that is an obsurd comment. "Technically" and maybe on paper but in the real world grouting between a tub and tile will not last more than a couple uses. As soon as weight is in the tub your grout will fall out and/or crack. If you keep your tile and grout sealed your water damn theory doesn't hold up. Tommy Knows! This is a great video with very useful information for someone that might need help doing this job.
Andy, please send some of that nice tape over here to the States. What we have is close but yours runs a nice straight line w/o twisting. The 3M Blue painters tape sold here is to heavy to use for a job like caulikng a tub in. Nice work !
Great video and so easy to follow for the normal DIYer. On a separate note why don't sealants have the end bit already on an angle with an airtight top?! I've found myself putting a screw in the end..
This is how I do it. Works great, looks great, takes a little time. Also no feathered edge to get cruddy when cleaning. Works good on exterior window and door trim as well, places that don't get painted!
Thanks Tommy so well explained, full of life and not falling asleep half way through the video or tutorial. Keep it up. You do not have any DIY classes?
☺ Thank you Tommy for share your secrets you made it easy to follow , also your voice very clear. I have done myself with brillant results just as you show - feel like I can carry on doing other things around my home following you... download more videos please ! Done: Big "like" and subscribed 👍
This is the first time I've seen the tip about putting two lines of masking tape around the bath to make nice straight edges along both edges. Thank you Tommy's Trade Secrets for this brilliant tip:-) But another tip that sounds good is that you should fill the bath BEFORE applying silicon. This is because if you silicon an empty bath and then fill the bath with water, apparently the weight of the water could split the silicon? Obviously, this is only possible if your bath already has its taps fitted and water connected ;-)
Just wanted to say thanks, i attempted my first try without the video and it went out but had a lot of left over silicone faintly on the bath and tile, thanks again a big help Tommy!
Superb vid I tried this last year made a right mess of it didn't use any tutorial first plus didn't have a gun need to redo it how do I remove the old silicone?
Great video, but it's still a black art. Royally cocked up some silicon-ing today and am very grumpy as I now have to dig it all out and start again. You guys make it look so easy!
thanks for sharing. I do alot of mastic work but rarely by masking it. I found that you gotta be careful not to allow too much mastic to build up on the tape after you've smoothed it off, as it can then make a mess as you pull the tape away. Personally,i find the sealant smoothing tools work really well, especially the packs of the square pieces of rubber, each with a different size and type of corner or curve on it. Nice job m8.
Thanks for the vid. however when ever I try this method and remove the tape there is a lip like a mini step left behind, the silicone is not flush with the wall and tub. I dont know why can you help?
Always we are installing bath before tiling so the tiles overlapping bath lips. Of course after that we using sealant as you do. Opppppppsssss nice tutorial.
Some times I have to run silicon maybe less then a mil thick between new stainless steel sinks and the work surface. Its a job I never look forward to doing as it goes on so slowly and so carefully. Next time I will try this method. I'm actually looking forward to doing one now!
Heres the tip from: andy t half fill it with water, first if you seal it empty - it gets stretched a long way if you seal it half full, when you empty the bath, the seal will be in 50% compression and when the bat is full, its in 50% stretch. Makes sense to me, anyone else!

one of the only videos that tell you to fill the bath before starting ! biggggg thumbs up

It's the wife variety of how so many different people do things
Yes the silicone is waterproof. The curing time will depend on the product itself so always read the manufacturer's instructions. I would say at least 12 hours

Awesome...The mineral spirits tip for smoothing the caulk made all the difference from when I tried this in the past. Thanks so much !!
Been using this method over 25 years it is the neatest way I can do it as I do not us a silicone gun all the time .
Current registered Pennsylvania home improvement contractor. This is how I was taught, and so I've been using this same method for the last 10 years. Someday I'll graduate to doing it without the tape...no I won't.
absolute legend. after my second time of sealing the tub the tip "fill the bath before you seal" was an absolute winner!
if you only helped one guy like M PEFF , your video was worth it. thanks for posting up your video on doing it the correct way. been doing it that way for years.
just replaced the sealant round my bath by following your instructions. I am so pleased with the results. Thankyou
Yes a great video for starters, check that the silicone sale buy date has not been exceeded on the tube. Some shops sell out of date supplies
Excellent video. I always made a right mess of sealing anything with silicone all over everything. This should help. Thanks for the great tip.
This video has helped me so much. I had never removed and replaced sealant before, however, I have managed to do this after watching video. Thank you 😊🙋👍

this looks so easy, and I was going to hire someone to do it!. Thanks Excellent tip about the tape. Will DIY tomorrow
Great tips and a quick and succinct video. No other video I've watched had the fantastic tip of filling the tub to make it heavier. Awesome tip!
Absolutely brilliant - I know what I'll be doing this Saturday ... with confidence!
OK so your saying you do it for a living and it takes 25 times longer BUT as you say you do it for a living! you can do it efficiently and quickly that's why this method would take YOU longer BUT for those of us who only need to do the odd job who are not used to it will and have found this method very very helpful and i think Tommy's Trade Secrets and Trade Supermarket are doing a fantasticly wonderful job teaching us Home Diy Folk how to save a few Quid thanks TTS & TS Keep up the good work
Brill vid, always wondered how to stop it dragging with your finger but the white spirit answered my question. i'm on my way to the bathroom now.....
Siliconing. Easy to do, but also easy to balls up if you don't use the right method.
Nice one - great vid! Keep them coming.
You are definitely experienced doing at caulking. So fast. Thanks for sharing and the tip of finger tips dipped in mineral spirits is the first for me. Thanks.
Great tip - I will redo my work now to fix up the mess !! Thankyou.
This is a perfect video.. You are really good at explaining the process without giving excessive info. I enjoyed it and you are obviously very good at what you do. Loved it.?
Great instructions. Shower turned out a treat.
great!!!
wish I had watched this before I did my son's bathroom repair!

Nice job on the silicone . Thanks for sharing
Nice one, Tommy. You've saved me a lot of mess and swearing.
Great video. I stripped and resealed my bath and it looks much better now.
I never thought of the tape border! Great tip! Thanks for all you do in helping us DIYers!!!
Makes the job look very professional indeed.

Clear and very helpful, Just watched before running a bead around the kitchen worktops, thanks
He makes it look easy as pie. It's harder than it looks .
its not that hard once you get the hang of it, acrylic is alot more forgiving then silicone
Very nice and simple explanation Tommy, will use this method tomorrow,Thanks Tommy ATB Monty

Bloody good video, probably the best line I've seen on YT so far
A nice job done, would have been useful to see this done with the taps in place
Nice vid! It saved me a lot of mucking about and messy tiles.
Great tips there for sealing a bath or shower like I'm going to. Thanks! 😄
Thanks for sharing your tips and advice about plumbing. We learned a lot from your video Tommy.
Oh how I wish my man had seen this video before messing up our bathroom
+gethimgelded :)))) same here...
Spray it with WD 40, wait few hours, remove old silicone, clean the surfaces and caulk it again. No need to live in a mess.
gethimgelded - Time for divorce, lol.
Or YOU could learn to do it rather than moaning at his handy work!!!
Excellent video! I wish I saw it years ago :)
Thanks for the tip, my bathroom looks great because of your information
Great video, thanks! When I see what a horrible mess I did in my bathroom, I'm surely gonna start all over using these tips!
Thank you that's great for someone like me who doesn't know how to do this :-)
Thanks for the simple instruction. Very helpful.

Tommy's Yard D
awesome job
That's greatttt stuff
Hi.Nice tutorial. I'm interested what is the minimum period for the silicone to dry out. Will aprox 6 hours be enough ?
How simple is that....when you know how! Love the cockneyesque delivery too....thanks Tommy
Great point about filling the tub 1/2 full of water before doing the silicone seal!
Nice video thanks, any tips for removing silicone already there? Want to do the job from scratch nicely like this.
Thanks for the vid.
however when ever I try this method and remove the tape there is a lip like a mini step left behind, the silicone is not flush with the wall and tub. I dont know why can you help?
a great video.... is the silicone waterproof ? How long do you leave it to dry? before using the bath?
Super helpful and simple, why oh why I never thought of this before!
Thanks so much. I've jsut completed my first attempt at Siliconing the bath. Looks FAB:)
very good video, also i like he's accent
He's a cockney geezer :D
Always we are installing bath before tiling so the tiles overlapping bath lips. Of course after that we using sealant as you do.
Opppppppsssss nice tutorial.
Brilliant, you might have made it look a little too easy, I'll have to see 😱
Good method, straight to the point.
This is a very good idea, thanks for sharing it.
Thank you! Worked beautifully for a first timer.
Thanks for sharing, this has been really helpful
well done! Simple, clear and to the point👌
Some times I have to run silicon maybe less then a mil thick between new stainless steel sinks and the work surface. Its a job I never look forward to doing as it goes on so slowly and so carefully. Next time I will try this method. I'm actually looking forward to doing one now!
Didn't think of filling the bath tub - great idea. and dishwashing liquid in the water
Can you use the blue painters tape too?
top video I'm a plumber my self will use tape next time. never thought of that. Nice one !!
Thank you my friend.. Just tried this.. Looks great.
Looks great. I had to google "white spirit" as I've never heard the term before. Love this video!
Wicked I was messin up near the tap then watched this the rest just flowed
Superb clip, bathroom here I come!
Mate that's a decent job you did there FairPlay lad
I love the tape idea. My dad free hands it and it is not aestheticly pleasing at all. Ill be sure to tell him about it. Thanks :D
Thanks Tommy, excellent tips
Heres the tip from:
andy t
half fill it with water, first
if you seal it empty - it gets stretched a long way
if you seal it half full, when you empty the bath, the seal will be in 50% compression and when the bat is full, its in 50% stretch.
Makes sense to me, anyone else!
