This is my very last video about the Thai Airways A340-600, my former favourite airplane at Zurich Airport. Thai Airways has retired its A346 recently, and therefor I decided to upload this special farewell video. It includes a selection of footage of the last year when this beautiful aircraft was in service. The first shots are a bit shaky, due to the fact that I had to get used to my new tripod during these times, I'm sorry for that. The clips are in chronological order, starting at June 28th 2014. Always when the date of recording changes, I noted it in the video log next to the usual description. This date remains until another one is mentoned. Thai Airways had 7 A346 in service. I caught all of them, exepted HS-TNC.
Goodbye Thai Airways A340-600, you'll be missed!

a340-600 is without a doubt the most beautiful bird in the sky ... will be really missed
I was lucky enough to fly in one of those beauties (Iberia EC-INO), gonna miss her...
Thai's livery on the A340-600 was just the best.
I love Thai Airway. It's comfortable and beautiful aircraft.
I never saw this aircraft on plane finder anymore. I thought about it and found out by watching this video that they actually retired there A340-600s. This is a really beautiful plane. And I'm going to miss it like the PAL 747 ;(
Sad to see this beautiful aircraft leave Zurich, but I'm happy that you caught so much footage of it :) The shot at 6:34 would have to be my favorite, the rotation plus that dramatic condensation, wow! Phenomenal, PHENOMENAL work as always :)

The A-340 series were a fantastic plane to fly. Actually it was my personal favourite. Sorry to see them go.

Absolutely sad. There're a few of this young angel parked in Autapao Airport. I really miss and love the A340.
Rode the A340 Thai Airways from LAX to BKK: NON-STOP! 17 hours 45 mins. That was a great ride.
Luckily the airline 'Tahiti Nui' still uses their a340 to my nearby airport Auckland Airport, will be sad to never see these again one day. The a340-600 was the first plane I ever flew in, from AKL to BKK on Thai Airways!
Love the longest variants of several models, this is one of the best, just looks right. Be patient unloading.

Yea, great plane if even 2nd rate airlines like Thai are dumping/grounding them at 10 years old. Your plane is permanently parked along with 7 others (500's and 600's) at Utapao Airport in Thailand.

I like the a340-600 because of how beautiful it is with four engines and a cabin and more. The a340-600 is a big attraction that the b777-300ER gets jealous because of the beauty.

以前跟團去瑞士玩，選擇在曼谷(BKK)轉搭泰航A340-600的路線(TPEBKKZRH)，同樣是經濟艙的座位，2-4-2的座位配置比777的3-3-3還舒服，細長的機身外型很漂亮，非常引人注目。在泰航退役A340以前，東亞地區的人若想搭A340-500~600，幾乎只有泰航(TG)、新航(SQ)可以選，除非是德國漢莎(LH)有執飛的長途直飛航線。

Yep, the A340-600 was gone much too soon! Its replacement; the A350-1000, doesn’t hold a candle to how beautiful the A346 is in my opinion.😍😢
A pity, because the 346 is such an aesthetically pleasing aircraft. It's versatility window was just too narrow. The 330 far outstripped the 340 in sales because of the former's
amazing versatility...The 330 can be profitable on just about ANY route.
Just great cut of Videos! Thank you so much! It is my favourite airplane in my absolut favourite colors... Very sad, that the A340-600 will disapear in the next few years. I was lucky to fly it last June with LH from PEK to MUC again and will be so lucky to fly it with SA between CPT and JNB in 2 months. Saw a lot of the retired A346 from TG recently at DMK, the old airport of Bangkok, probably waiting for...???

The Boeing 777 is the one to blame about the A340 demise.
I had collected Airbus A340-600 which was then the Longest Aircraft and Now was replaced by the Boeing 747-800 Intercontinental and the Boeing 747-8 Freighter.

Great video mate!! Ì also really love the A340! Years ago I was still contrailspotting and filming the Thai A346 towards Heathrow every time! Really sad to see that these magnificent planes are going to be retired. I just have to catch one A345/A346 before they are all gone! Are you sure that all A346s form Thai are not flying anymore?
They aren't flying since the 29th of March 2015, so it's actually a while ago. All of them are retired and replaced by the 77W.

A350-1000 is the replacement I assume.. Pretty much the same seating capacity. Cheaper to run.

now a days no use of a340 because 777 are more reliable than a340 and more fuel efficient . 777 just have two engines and can travel same distance as a340. it's airline's choice to burn more fuel...
the same way airlines are retiring 747's. a340 and old 747's will all be gone soon..... great planes but not efficient enough :)

A question to all you experts out there. Why does a340 have so many engines while it still only have one floor?
bescTV well, when the A340 came out in the early 90ies, the ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operation Performance Standards) hadn't been developped just yet. This means that twin-engine aircraft had some routing limitations due to engine reliabilty reasons which have changed until today. That's why Airbus has built the A330 for routes which have a diversion opportunity close to the flight route, e.g. transatlantic flights, and the A340 for routes where diversion airports aren't just around the corner, like transpacific flights. If the A330/A340 had been developped just 5 to 10 years later, we probably would have seen an A330-500/600 and A330-300LR or something like that. It's quite comparable to the B777-200/300 which came out first and the -200ER/LR and -300ER which were developped a few years later.

Great video, thanks! I always enjoyed this beauty between the other A340's in ZRH and had about 40 trips to Asia. However the B777-300er is a great successor and offers a far better Business Class.

All Thai Airways Flight from Bangkok to Zurich Now uses the More Fuel Efficient Aircraft like the Airbus A350XWB and the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
Actually Thai is using the B777-300ER on this route nowadays.

Mostly i flew with thai airways i have flew on their a340-600 1 times but after it retired i flew alots of their a380's like all their 6 and the a380's also retired ,i really like a340's but it got replaced and i think they got 6 A346 and 4 A345 not 7 A346's

Aircraft of this size are more efficient using two instead of four engines, this is why A340ies get replaced with 777, 787 and A350 these days.
How could the public get so close on the airport ground?
There are bus tours taking place during summer weekends. The highlight is a 15 minutes stop at this close spot where people can get off the bus and observe the departing airplanes.

You can find these 3 to 4 A340 of Thai airway left at U-Tapao air port in Thailand now [2017]. It is a big topic of Thais that they wasted money for these crafts due to wrong marketing .
