Thank you for taking the time to provide this. I'm needing to this very thing to my new atv trailer also. Looks like the way to go over spending a lot more $$$ for a rhino lining treatment.
I’m glad I watched this. I’ve been going back and forth if I wanted to stain my wood or put a truck bed lining on it. I’m going to put a stain on so that wood really shines Thanks for taking the time to make this! You did a great job 🤘
You are so right. Prep work is 90% of the job. The best advice I can give you is do not listen to other peoples advise. Everyone has a different opinion and most times that shouldn't mean anything to you. As long as you are happy with it and learned a new skill, that is what matters. Great job by the way. It looks really good. How well has it held up? I assume it is a few years ago now that you painted it.
Nice job never have to change that wood out. I'm going to use the home depot deck paint it's textured made for directly put on wood. I think I would have got one of those kits for bed liner with the spray gun use that way you get down in between the wood.
I actually no longer own this trailer but it held up fine except for some cracking of the black over time. I might try and find a more flexible and durable coating... maybe it might've held up better if it went over metal...
I just don’t understand why he is painting wooden trailer floor boards…. The paint probably costs as much as just buying new boards lol. Probably wont still that well at all/will rip right off when rubbed against. Tho that is equally as dumb. Even dumber is the fact he has a safety vest on but no respirator and probably no hearing protection.
Thanks. I did a little research and got some mixed reviews about spraying this stuff down and how hard it was for it to get past the sprayer. If I could do it over again, I would have hand brushed between the planks with primer then did my first coat. Also, I did go to home depot and looked at several deck painting options, especially the deck paint that has the textured feel to it. I was going to go with that, but after reading so many negative reviews about the paint flaking off etc., I decided not to go with it. This was verified when I one day went to clean a neighbors deck and the textured deck paint I was going to buy was flaking off his deck. It was only there for on year and he was not happy. But I have to say, the Iron Armor works great if you're going to load vehicles, ATVs etc. for the exception of a few spots that need some touching up and me coming back this summer and priming the sides and recoating with the Iron Armor spray, it's very durable and affordable.
We used to treat the wood with akerosene, and light weight oil mix top, in between the wood, and underneath the trlr too. I just bought a new trlr yesterday, didn’t know if that was still the way to go or not.
Thank You! I have been thinking about this so long my last boards just fell apart! Can yoou teach us how to drill a few D-links and weld them to the frame for motorcycles or anything else.
Anytime you can protect all of the wood the better. However, this is a personal choice. You could spray the bottom with KILZ primer spray or roll it on. Unless of course you want to go through the trouble of taking each board off I would try it this way.
overkill. The wood is treated. Just need to protect the top so the wood does not get gouged when carrying objects and loading objects onto the trailer.
@@DjXCENTRiC If you don't use trailer it might last that long. I use the Hell out of are different sized trailers and never last that long boards crack and break.
well, I no longer have the trailer because someone hit it. If I had to do it over again though I would've taken the boards off and painted them. Also, I did notice some peeling (not much) during the hotter times. I've also seen comments on using a better BARN paint that would hold up a lot better. good luck and subscribe if you like too. plan on coming back with some more stuff
excellent job, I look forward to using the bed liner product. Also, home depot could have made that primer black for you... thanks again for the advise
Eddie, I bought a pad painter that is made for the gaps on decking. it has a part that's got the middle that goes into the gaps. Do you think I could paint over that sealer with white oil base paint. Thanks for the video.
I really need to know where you found the KILTZ primer, I have looked high and low for 2years now . My trailer is rotting away ,while I look for it. I need your help real bad CAPTAIN SAFETY VEST before I have to buy a new trailer.
you should be able to buy the KILTZ primer at your Home Depot. There is also another product that I haven't tried but may work better for y our situation... www.homedepot.com/p/BEHR-1-Gal-Red-Barn-and-Fence-Exterior-Paint-02501/100132971 www.homedepot.com/p/KILZ-PREMIUM-1-Gal-White-Interior-Exterior-Primer-Heavy-Duty-High-Hide-Sealer-and-Stain-Blocker-13941/100371291
No such thing as Kiltz primer. Its called KILZ, which was designed to prime over old paint. We used on billboards back when they were painted. Good for covering hard to cover colors like red, which is why its called "KILZ" as in, it kills the old paint job making it easier to paint over. Go back to 11:01 to 12:30 and you will find the can of KILZ 2 on his trailer.
+DerbyDoingDerbyThings so far great. I plan on re painting the sides with primer and a thin black coat of spray iron amor. if you follow this method you won't be unhappy.
You would have saved yourself some money and a lot of grief if you would have painted him boards before you started that way you could have got all four sides.
Excellent effort, but I think your process was not in sequence. You should have used a bush to go between the boards for a more professional result. Also, I think the spray made the final product look tacky. The bed liner paint is good if your do all of the fine/filler work first.
Now his boards are water logged ! Should have removed the board's for a complete painting now looks like you have stripes from the cracks in between the board's !
so far it's holding up well. I little cracking from the extreme winter but it's actually doing better than I thought it would. I plan on buying the iron armor spray and just give another quick over. It really is an impressive product if you apply correctly.
I can’t believe you just sanded a wood trailer floor. WHY?🤷♂️ Isn’t that like the same thing as picking the lint off your socks before you put your shoes on? I don’t get it. I’ve replaced semi trailer floors for years and I never even considered sanding it.
reason for this is because of the mill glaze that comes on new wood like this. You get a much better bite when applying primer than if you don't do it at all....
Stick with wood stain or wood sealer, wood likes to breath, it expands and contracts with temperatures and moisture, any solid surface will dramatically reduce the live span of the planks. Not a good idea

Glad it was helpful!
Use the deck resurfacer like they sell at lowes, the textured stuff. Works great, awesome traction wet or dry, and looks great.

Great video, I'm getting HF liner soon. Thanks for the information.
Great 👍 work buddy
Great video, good job with the process. Can you give an update as to how it is holding up now after 5 years?
I actually no longer own this trailer but it held up fine except for some cracking of the black over time. I might try and find a more flexible and durable coating... maybe it might've held up better if it went over metal...
So don’t do this basically
Good thing he has his hi-vis on. I could hardly see him in his driveway on a parked trailer in the afternoon.
I just don’t understand why he is painting wooden trailer floor boards…. The paint probably costs as much as just buying new boards lol. How did this do with time? And how slick was it when wet
I know longer own the trailer but it held up decently. it wasn't slick at all either.
@@Doitforyoself okay cool thank you! Planning on using it on outdoor stairs for my grandparents.
I think you are a good teacher. I watched you do the entire show. I will be really curious to see if you still have your trailer.
So, the trailer ended up getting totaled so I no longer have it. However, for the two years I did have it, it seemed to hold up well.
@@Doitforyoself, I'm sorry for your loss. Thanks for the video.
I have a brand new cargo trailer with OSB subfloor. Would this product work? Would I have to sand at all? Or what product would you recommend?
How has it held up over the years
I actually wrecked the trailer and purchased new again. It did good but over time the paint began to chip off in some areas.
nice touch with the vest
Good job 👍. Thanks I’m going to mine .
Thank You! I have been thinking about this so long my last boards just fell apart! Can yoou teach us how to drill a few D-links and weld them to the frame for motorcycles or anything else.
I’ll try and get to something like this as soon as I can. Life’s got me all over the place right now.
But wouldn’t you want to treat the whole piece of wood so it would have zero potential to rot? Great video btw
GREAT ASS VIDEO BRO!!!! THANKS!!!
Would you recommend painting the bottom of it for any water that finds it's way down there or road splash?
Anytime you can protect all of the wood the better. However, this is a personal choice. You could spray the bottom with KILZ primer spray or roll it on. Unless of course you want to go through the trouble of taking each board off I would try it this way.
Any update on how it held up? I'm planning on doing it on a raised floor in my van. I want to make a camper and pull my quad inside.
It held up really well for the time I had it. It got totaled and so had to junk it.
I would have done each board individually so the underside and edges would be covered too. Might as well do the job right the first time.
overkill. The wood is treated. Just need to protect the top so the wood does not get gouged when carrying objects and loading objects onto the trailer.
How has the bed liner held up over the last two years?
There is some cracking and a little peeling. It's good enough for what I'm using but I would say if you can find a better alternative to go with that.
Im currently working on my trailer. How did you like it so far, is it how is it holding up
I actually sold the trailer but it did peel and crack in some places but for my purpose, it held up fine.
Only down side is wood will still rot by not coating all 4 sides of boards. but good idea
If its pressure treated wood, it will last 15-20 years.. Id say that's pretty damn good.

do you have to use a primer?
yes... u should
@@Doitforyoself I bought primer at home depot and had them tinted it black and I'm going to spray it on and then roll the liner on
Been considering the same since replacing the deck would run over $500. How has it held up? Any issues with it peeling or cracking etc?

Was the kilz primer necessary for the bed liner to adhere? I've already sanded mine to bare wood with 80 grit.
yes. you have to use the primer
What Sandpaper do you use on the wood.
i love how you even wear your saftey vest at home in your driveway! does this lets your S-o know to stay the hell way?
Why would you sand the deck and then hose down the raw wood.
are you mark wal burgers brother

why not stain with a semi transparent stain like Defy and then no peeling to deal with and just reapply a coat every 3 yrs?

Is this bed liner still holding up?
it is but there is some cracking. I think I'll go back and respray it this summer.
How many cans did you use?
you put a follow-up video up today

hows it holding up?

+Eddie Regory use zink paint
Once it's beat up you won't notice the cracks.
How long is your trailer
20ft.
Eddie Regory
Okay mine's about a 20 footer too. Thought mine was too big but it's actually descent length.
Eddie Regory
Is it a car hauler? What kind of frame does it have.
this is used for my ATVs etc. but you can use it as a car hauler. I believe the frame is C-channel.
About as long as the video! :-)
Seriously though, good job on the trailer, but the primer is called KILZ 2, not Kiltz.
Wouldnt the black color absorb more sun radiation and therefore wear out faster than by simply staining it clear?
