If you ride a bicycle here in Portland you are insane! Motto here is if your not completely wasted without insurance or a license and a gun you’re not a portlander.
You have to be insane to ride a bicycle on the street these days. I gave up motorcycles nearly 20 years ago because of how bad drivers are.
It's okay to ride your bicycle as long as you don't negotiate with cars. As long as everyone is in a separate space, everybody is fine. It's when the spaces mix together that car and bicycle must negotiate and things can get dicey.
Same here, I always got hit when I was stopped.
For real, I can find greenways for my bicycle, but my Streetbike days are done. Both Triumphs and a Honda sold in the last year because there's just THAT many people glued to their phones WHILE their car is in motion...at freeway speeds. You can actually see the driver of every 3rd car bobbing their head up & down like some kind of Dodo bird, looking at their damn phone.

Love to ride , won't risk the streets anymore due to so many horrible drivers. Bikes always lose against cars.

But just for fun: Cycling _is_ my hobby. The only one I've got left at this age and what's left of my knee. Snowboarding: gone. Surfing: can't do popups. Paintball: Forgot it. Dirtbikes: Nope. Target shooting: Ammo prices are absurd. Skating: LOLWUT. No, bones break forever now.
