Paul Heyman teased on Raw during his promo that Cody will lose at Mania, because Dusty Rhodes preped many others except his own son. Thus, Cody is not ready for big time yet.
He's right. People are undecided like hell I remember when he was away for 7yrs and when he did turn up they accused him of stealing the spotlight from young talents now he's gone for abit he's on demand again, personally I'd have him come back for few segments that's it.
The perfect thing would be (for me at least) if next wrestlemania we get Cody vs Cena and Roman vs Rock for the main events of days 1&2. I think Roman should lose to Cody this wrestlemania and win against the rock next wrestlemania if they can get him
I wholeheartedly agree as well the dependence on part timers is what created the current roster problem right now there is no megastars being made anymore the only ones who you can realistically say are Roman and Rollins/Becky but look at the amount of effort it took for Roman to get to this point back in day the face of the company wasn't the only person who was a megastar you could have Rock or Austin as the face and still have Triple h shawn michaels undertaker kane etc. I'm glad Rock can't make it and if Rock and Roman happens it needs to be solely a non title match like Hogan and Rock was back in the day the main importance right now is who of the current roster can take him down cause the guy who does it will instantly get put over to the highest degree which is needed especially in this roster Edit: Prime example of this was the Batista and Bryan situation in 2014 Batista 2014 in ring performance was horrible he clearly was far from ring ready fully and Bryan was white hot but wwe heavily reliance on the past almost ruin one of the most memorable wrestlemania moments and memorable matches from a current roster guy
Nobody is a megastar today that's why WWE goes for part timers. Cody Rhodes will never be a Cena or Rock. Neither was Daniel Bryan a huge draw. The business is more exposed and hardcore fans keep rioting because their favorite wrestlers don't get a push.
The current roster just ain't it. If a majority of them were actually interesting & could draw on their own, they wouldn't need legends or part timers to pop a rating, or sell more tickets. What is going to be the excuse when Cody or another wrestler has a main title run & it flops?
The problem is, the roster is full of guys that can go in the ring but don't have that intangible star power. Its just a sign of the shift that has taken place over the years. All the emphasis is put on ring work and "getting your shit in" rather than getting over. in the attitude era even opening matches had big stars. Almost the entire roster was massively over. Even guys in WWE now that have the look or have decent charisma cant compare to mid carders back then. The only guy in the business right now that comes close as a character is MJF. He HAS it. Kevin Owens is a great all around talent as well as Sami but they still aren't holding the jock strap of attitude era or ruthless aggression champs. That is exactly why they feel the need to bring back legends (some long past their prime) Now, the Rock is probably one that has a prime that will last much longer than any of them lol Dude looks better than he ever has and will never be defeated on the Mic but the company focuses on the wrong things. Put more time into character work, bring back the best that ever did it to SCHOOL these guys on character development and most importantly loosen the leash a bit and allow them to get comfortable in who they are. Too many scripts, not enough latitude and ability to make mistakes. Austin wasn't born over night, he built that himself and decided to fucking be himself and it worked because it was real.
I think it should be both. Sami for the universal championship and Rhodes for the wwe world championship. Rhodes for night 2 as the true mainevent of mania which would wrap up the story line of picking up the title that has eluded his family.
How awesome would it be if Cody lost due to Sami or something. Romana retains the crowd is hot Then the rock comes back to save Cody from a beat down. But hey joins the rock.
