    I think I suggested Larnell’s Drumeo ep where he listened to a song and then played it perfectly. The fusion tune. Hope you can react to that too. He’s brilliant on that one.
    Btw, Larnell’s version of this is better than Lars. Larnell did it with more complexity and easeness. No disrespect to Lars just my own opinion.

    ok so Larnell covered the song after one hearing and made it better, more listenable and more nuanced. I don't think it says ANYTHING about Lars. ok maybe a little. . .

    Would love for Yoyoka to cover this tune as well.

      I’m guessing that with 2- 3 listens she would probably nail it, and play it with the requisite rock attitude and dynamics as well.

    Thanks for this and I think that what Larnell did was to capture the essence of the song and the drumming and then fit it to what it should have sounded like rather than play it note for note, just like what Yoyoka did in the Cream cover, get the feel down, then add a bit of her own feeling, which to my ear actually sounded better. BTW, in an interview with some of her parent's musicians friends she was ask what's the one drum you would take if you were on a deserted island and she say the floor tom.

    • @WavePotter
      @WavePotter  3 года назад +1

      Haha. i love that! And yes! I think it's so cool when musicians really let their own style shine through on a cover of someone else's song!

    Get seated and listen to Larnell contributing on Snarky Puppy (We like it here), Lingus, etc... But also check out the City lights or whatever it's called. Those are fantastic to listen to.

    Must be something about great musicians that they have trouble with their left ear pieces, yes? Great stuff, as always. I come here for the drums and the insightful comments, and leave impressed by the guitar playing, too, lol.

    Great job on your cover! You know I don't know the technicals of drumming, but this might be the best cover I've seen you do! You're a very good drummer, but I bet you would be better if you could find an earpiece that would stay in, or tape it in. It has to take away from your focus. When you feel it slipping, you're wondering when it's going to fall out. When it falls out you have to grab it. Something to think about. Focus is everything! Thanks Again!

      Thank you Glen! I really appreciate that! I'm really trying to improve my engineering and mixing quality as well as pocket presence and restraint. But yes, i definitely need to figure out my buds. I think my ears have different size holes, and i need different size sleeves, but i also think i might need the ones with the wrap around part that help secure them in place. Soon i'll have to do some shopping around!

    Bro you need to go watch the other one he did where it says he listens once and plays perfect....he ACTUALLY listens to the song with no drums, creates the whole drum section, then plays it...its freaking amazing! He kills it, you should check it out. Also...awesome job with your cover bro!

  • @Glen.Black.
    @Glen.Black. 3 года назад +2

    That was awesome! I do understand how he could do that though. We used to do that when I used to race cars. Me and my buddy would travel to an unknown track, walk the track and mentally note our corner entry speed, what line we would take, and where the apex of the turn was. Then go out in one lap and beat the locals. They almost always inspected our cars when we were done because they thought we were cheating with illegal mods, but we weren't. They just drove and didn't walk the track. So I get it, but he is still, I'm sure one of very few that can do that.

    • @cheneyrobert
      @cheneyrobert 3 года назад +1

      Yeah when Vettel drove Mosport the first time he walked the track with my brother, took mental notes and then 😂smoked the locals 😎👍🏻attention to the work at hand 👍🏻🥂

      Wow. That is fascinating! I used to regularly take physical notes of songs i needed to learn fast to get the structure down, but i can't imagine doing it all mentally. That is really impressive.

    Wave, your cover was very creditable. Maybe time to react to a Larnell Lewis again? This is Jazz/fusion: _Larnell Lewis Hears A Song Once And Plays It Perfectly_ ruclips.net/video/vIW72VXMPHo/видео.html (11m:31s)
    It's just as impressive but for a different reason; there are no drums to follow. So maybe worth adding to your list. Larnell is a session musician. A lot of new Pop seems to be drum machines, but new jazz and fusion use live drummers and tour. That seems like a possible path for Yoyoka to earn a living playing music, and have the flexibility to play with different musicians.
    I suggested to Yoyoka she watch that _Larnell Lewis Hears A Song Once And Plays It Perfectly_ video. Later, in a live stream, I asked if she'd listened and what she thought. Yoyoka said "Impressive" (IIRC, according to google translate 😀)
    For Larnell Lewis just playing with a band maybe try:
    _Snarky Puppy - What About Me? (We Like It Here)_ ruclips.net/video/fuhHU_BZXSk/видео.html (6m:56s)
    It has a very unusual guitar solo which you might not like. However, Larnell Lewis is absolutely "Killin' It". People will tell you a story about Larnell "learning" this. However, the truth is more complex.
    Snarky Puppy are a jazz/fusion/world ensemble. They tour a _lot._ They have multiple musicians to fill in any slot (eg 3 drummers), to cover tour dates while giving musicians flexibility. They record live in a studio with an audience.
    If you want to focus on Larnell playing the drums, this Drumeo video has Larnell alone with a backing track
    _"What About Me?" (Larnell Lewis Drum Performance)_ ruclips.net/video/k7GZ1j5K5Gs/видео.html (6m:15s)
    Best Wishes. ☮

    Mate, please, please, PLEASE do a couple of reactions to Snarky Puppy. Larnell plays with them and debuted on the album We Like it Here which was recorded and filmed live. It's basically an entire ensemble of Larnell level musicians. Definitely do 'Lingus' and then maybe 'What about me?'. Mind blowing musicianship from all concerned. Lingus also features one of the all time great keyboard solo's by Corey Henry. A must see.
