  • Went to Saipan for 4 days this past Memorial Weekend. It's the island that saw a lot of action during WWII between the Japanese and Americans. It was interesting to see the remaining weaponry, tanks, and buildings strewn all over the island of that time, particularly, unprotected.

It's part of the Spanish East Indies also called "Las Islas Filipinas" now the Philippines. When US conquered the area in 1900, they separated Guam and Northern Marianas from the mainland Philippines.

Thanks for that historical bit; it's good to know. But, it WAS part of the Spanish East Indies. Past tense. Like how it was then conquered by Spain, Germany, and Japan. Now, it's under the commonwealth of the USA, right? *thumbs up*

Once was an ancient seafaring culture that descended from SEA (indonesia) but sadly fell due to spanish japanese and american colonisation.
