Our documentary is about Lone Soldiers in the Israeli Defense Forces. A lone soldier is a person from outside of Israel who volunteers to serve in the army and has no family with them in Israel. We chose this topic because the lone soldier program is something unique to the IDF. While filming this documentary we had the privilege of speaking with many different people who were lone soldiers or are connected to lone soldiers, and although they each had unique, interesting stories, every single one said the same thing; it was the best experience of their lives and they would gladly do it again. We wanted to explore what makes the experience so amazing, and what motivates people to leave their homes and move half way around the world to serve in an army.

Serving in the IDF doesn't make you a traitor to the U.S. In fact, it's quite the opposite. You are joining a military that is fighting radical Islamists on a daily basis. Radical Islam is Americas biggest enemy. You are also helping one of, if not our biggest ally.

Hi I live in the US and I am really intrested in joining the IDF Here in the US I am not allowed to join because I have unilateral deafness meaning I am Deaf in ONE ear but I can hear totally fine in the other and I heard that they accept deafness or hard of hearing in Israel so I’m willing to serve because I really want to make a difference but, am I allowed to join even tho if I am not Jewish and don’t have Jewish background/heritage if you could reply back to me that would be great thank you so much and thanks for posting this video for more info that I needed to know

Good for them in serving in a military but most if not all of these Lone Soldiers are Dual-Citizens I think. If you aren't of Jewish heritage you can only serve as an auxiliary not actual IDF.

You sound like an American. Not an overly bright one, but I will tell you that Israel LOVES Americans. In Tel Aviv you would feel as if you were in the States because EVERY body speaks English, the dress is very western, and there is none of that 'down with America' bullshit. With the exception of Hebrew signage, (there is a LOT of English) you would feel very much at home, and very welcome.

I can see an American raising money for Israel or serving in the US military first and then going to serve in the IDF. I'd do it that way but I'm way too patriotic, I did three years in the US Marines. And until Israel treats its black Jews as equals I won't be fighting for them any time soon, but I'll raise funds for them or help in any other way like red cross or something. Even though they're an ally, Americans should serve here first. IMHO.
