In the video we’ll be going over some easy guitar riffs, basic guitar chords and how to read them on tablature sheet music. I’ll also break down each riff and chord, piece by piece!
Looking for guitar tabs for beginners can be overwhelming at first. There are just way too many options out there! But my goal for this video is to give you the ultimate crash course on reading tab so you can go off and learn all your favorite songs as quickly as possible!
We’ll start off with some easy guitar riffs that are fun to play and I’ll break down each one so you can start playing them yourself. We’ll also go over reading the tabs for some basic guitar chords in a progression so you’ll be familiar with reading chords as well.

Another fun part of this video is where we have a go at sight-reading these easy guitar tabs together! If you’re brand new to sight-reading, I recommend that, once you’re comfortable with playing the easy guitar riffs and basic guitar chords, you rewind the video to the parts where we sight-read together and try them out repeatedly until you can play in time with me. The beauty of RUclips is that you can rewind and rewatch the video as many times as you want, so no need to feel any pressure :)

I did use the #1 Guitar Progress Killer before and have change my floating pick hand to an anchored picking hand, well for the most part. I may have a little bit of a hybrid picking style but it has helped me a lot. Changes after years is difficult but obtainable, even for this old dog.

I understand this lesson in terms of finger placement on frets using tabs, however I'm curious to know how, when using tabs, do you determine timing of the riff you're playing? Is there something on tabs that will indicate timing?? I hope this question isn't confusing. I am a complete beginner and it's a lot of information to absorb. But you are a great instructor. Thank you for what you do.

Thanks for the lesson and practice tabs! Would you please make a follow up explaining the symbols used for hammer ons, pull offs, slides etc. I've had problems on tabs that don't have the key for them.

I know how to read tabs at an intermediate level. However, I am having trouble playing the guitar without looking at the fretboard. Tell me, how does one play the guitar while reading the tabs and not looking at the fretboard? How is this done? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I started playing guitar in the early 70s. I have been playing by ear for most of my life. A few years ago, I decided to learn the basics of tablature. Wish I had time to learn music notation. Music notation completes a musician (most of the time). This does not apply to everyone, of course. For example, Elvis never learned to read and/or write music. He had a natural gift for singing. Elvis did not know the difference between a quarter note and quarter rest.

I wish you didn't devaluate reading traditional music at the beginning. As a teacher who wants to offer learning resources to my students, I almost don't want to share this video because in the first minute of your video you make 50% of my required curriculum seem "too hard to bother to learn". Just something to consider
