I bought my guitar a couple of weeks ago and then watched soooo many videos which made me ask myself if I had made a mistake. But when I came across your videos and once again had hope. I'm 68 and grew up during a time when the best music of all time was and still is here. I never intended to be Jimi Hendrix or Joe Bonamossa, but just to be able to play something that would make someone say " I know that song!" Your 1 string songs have made that happen! Pure genius! My goal is to learn House of the Rising Sun by The Animals. Thanks again from a devoted follower.

So glad I could help. Thanks for the great comment. Just remember stick at it. It's a slow process for all of us.
As a beginner, I was disheartened with my guitar playing and this vídeo did boost my confidence/interest a lot! Thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed the video part 2 is coming
Did I ask nah I’m playing 🤙
You’ll be shredding before you know it
Jus found my reason to keep on trying! Felt like I was at a dead end & still can't play a whole song but this has opened up new beginnings! Thanks so much!

This old man in his 80’ is looking forward to try this. Seems to be the best I’ve found. Thank you.
I had a stroke and forgot how to play my guitar, piano and my accordion. That was 8 years ago and I had another one 4 months ago. I am trying to learn again and you have helped me thank you so much
Sorry to hear Neola, just take your time, you'll get back there.
Glad your on recovery bro , guitar will give you pleasure
This is great advice for beginners, and EXACTLY how I started learning to play guitar over 40 years ago. He is basically playing the 1st (root or bass) notes for each song, and not the actual full chords. Now..... if you take your pinky and add a 5th note one string down and 2 frets down from the root note, you have a "power chord." Add a little distortion on the electric guitar and you are off and jamming.. This will work for most of these songs, and hundreds more, and is actually the way most rock and metal songs are played. Then it is on to learning full chords of 3 notes or more. Oh yeah, then those pesky lead scales....lol. It takes a lot of time and practice to become very proficient at the guitar, but this lesson is a great place to start.
@D B Cooper You are welcome. I am still here, and I am always glad to help an up and coming fellow guitarist. I have been playing, teaching, gigging and luthering since I was 12 years old (I am 53 now). The day I stop playing guitar will be the day I die (I hope anyway). There are actually lot of good guitar players and instructors on You Tube. Unfortunately, most of them are here to show off, brag about their million dollar guitar collections or confuse people by teaching with, and selling, over complicated music theory lessons (theory is really not that hard to understand with a little effort). If you want to follow some very knowledgeable and proficient guitar players/teachers, check out Rick Beato or Steve Stine. There is also an amazing young lady guitar player on You Tube that is a great teacher as well. Her name is Ayla Tesler-Mabe. Her channel is called "Guitareo." Some people call Ayla the "Bob Ross" of guitar teaching because she is so soft spoken and patient. Keep on playing and don't give up. It can be frustrating at times, but the more you practice and the better you get, the more you will WANT to play. Take care and keep on jammin'. 🎸🎵🎸🎼🎸
Learning Guitar has been a frustrating experience. It's been really hard to keep myself motivated for 3 years now. Had I stumbled upon this video in my early days the journey would've been way more enjoyable. Your lessons are fun and that's what learning music should be about. You're doing a big favor to all beginners mate. Keep up the good work.
Thanks mate.
Dont give up play everyday and set goals. The key is to STOP when it gets frustrating. Its supposed to be fun!
I strongly agree with this. I’m learning guitar and I need to learn Jingle bells but I’m not enjoying it at all. I found this really fun and I get it more.
Well said mate! This goes double for me too.
Tbh I’m a beginner and I got most of these right first or third try but Batman still be messing with me 😭
This was amazing. I'm 53 and have never played the guitar before. I was giggling like a school girl when I played Smells Like Teen Spirit. :) This was the best lesson!!! Thank you!!!
its not actually how you play teen spirit if you were wondering
@@joshhawkins8394 he knows that, this isn't for pros like you
@@TheOmniscientAtheist he? 😂💀
I'm sixty and giggling the same too!
@@joshhawkins8394 this IS exactly the melody, the most recognizable riff of Teen spirit. This is not about playing all the chords and scales of the entire song. This is showing beginners how to play the famous riff on one string only.
Idk why I been through lesson after lesson as a begginer I've learned more in a week watching this than I did in 6 years taking classes
Thanks Doug, glad I could help.
This is brilliant. Just what I'm looking for as a complete beginner. I know you have to learn cords and how to play all strings but picking up a guitar for the first time, this allows you to play something you recognise and encourages you to pick up your guitar everyday.

My son has encouraged me to learn guitar, I' m 44 yrs old. I love this because Its VERY BASIC and to the point. Clear and slow for someone like me Thank you so much. I would love to see more. I don't want to be a superstar I just need a creative outlet.
Thank you for this. I am 54, I almost gave up.
You saved my passion and now there is no stopping me💟
I cant thank you enough🙌
No worries, hope the lesson was helpful
Who are these people disliking this video? What is not like about how basic and easy this guy is teaching us?
You can't please everybody.
The dislikes are PRO players who forgot they had to start somewhere. These tutorials are BRILLIANT!
They are smarter than everybody , born with a golden guitar up their A$$, they can magically play with no lessons, little Cherub prodogies 😂😂
@@5BIRDOG50:08 Not best way to start learning. Way better is learning chords A, Am, B, Bm... You will remember the chords because they are used in all songs. It may not feel good like learning simple songs like these. My point is you will forget those little songs in days or weeks of not playing, yet chords will stay in you because you use them all the time in all of the song in the world. Thats why i Disliked😊

Complete beginner here and watching this really got me buzzing about wanting to play properly someday .... even though the tunes are on one string only this is helping me massively getting a feel for where the frets are without me constantly counting them ... thank you so much for taking the time to make a video that even a total novice like myself can clearly understand .. subscribed 👍
I am 52 and have tried at least 4 or 5 on and off over the years with no luck but watched your video and all i can said it WOW I can make the guitar sound like something thankyou
Thanks mate, glad I could help.
Thank you for this sir. I'm gonna use this as one of my go to practices. I'm a beginner for 10 years. I've been so lazy, but I promise myself to gain something from this lockdown and one of them is being able to play guitar.
Each to his own but these online music lessons are just a ploy to get your money, One Tennessee man spent over 10,000 on lessons and another 7,000 on guitars and speakers for his son and after two years he still couldn't play a note, The son really tried to cause his inheritance depended on him learning, In fact, the other three boys ages 15, 17 and 17 fathers spent thousands on guitar lessons and couldn't play a song after two years and two of the boy's fathers are legends in NASHVILLE and the music world,, The CHORD BUDDY is a POS so is EZ CHORD and the guy there about the one finger is laughable The late WAYLON and MAN IN BLACK plus KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, And CHET ADKINS all said , you can buy these sucker lessons online fro some man sitting behind a computer counting all the money people send him to learn to play guitar and the closest he ever came to a guitar he saw one in a pawnshop, Save your money and if you have the talent it will come out and it want be in the pockets of SAM HOLLYWOOD,
@@whiskeyrun4996 thank you for the concern pal, but I'm *not* spending my money on anyone here, not any online music lessons or apps, not even this dude lol
I was talking about this one particular video that is free to watch and I thought this could be one of my go to practices for fun.
My purpose for learning guitar isn't for the publicity, it's just for my own self, so I can use my old ass guitar that have been sitting in my room for years begging somebody to play it 😆
Anyway I got your point.

I have created dozens and dozens of original songs playing this way. I never thought I would be able to play guitar, but playing in this way has enabled me to add guitar to my repertoire. So if anybody is feeling discouraged about learning guitar, I can confirm that it is possible to create music without having to learn how to play chords or use all of your fingers. I have been playing this way for about four years and this is the first time I have seen anyone else play this way. I don’t feel as much of a weirdo now. 😃
Thank you so much for sharing your story which has inspired me I am 58 and partially sighted and found this a perfect way of learning
@@paulcarter9446 I'm glad this is inspirational Paul. I am legally blind in my left eye (it is pretty much the same as peripheral vision) and there is no way I would be able to play normally. Playing with one finger works perfectly for me. I wish you great success in playing guitar. - Colin
Thank You for making this available for those who either can not get out at all due to ill health or unable to afford lessons. May you be blessed with health, happiness, wisdom, love and peace. My man.....you taught me how to play my 1st song. By FAR the best teacher on YT. You take time to really teach and talk to US like the beginners we are. You are truly a God send. my daughter she is 12 years old and started when she was 11 she has gotten quite far with your videos and helped her out very much and knows them by heart and can play them with her eyes closed ❤️
That is so cool to hear. I hope she is enjoying playing and sticks at it. Thanks CM
i love how you have the numbers and spaces on the bottom, so after hearing/watching you i can pause it and still see the numbers 👍
Thank you, the numbers and lines are called tablature or tab for short. Just remember the lines are the strings and the numbers are the frets.
Would just like to say. I have been working with my 10 year old daughter for a while but could not get her interested beyond the 5 minute mark. She asked if there were songs we could learn with one string. A quick search and wahla! She didn't want to put the guitar down tonight. Thank you sir. We will be back tomorrow for more!
Glad to help.
Thankyou Mike ! I'm a 45yr old beginner, and your lessons have given me a great start and confidence. I use your lessons to practice daily. As I've made progress, I've adapted power chords back into your early part lessons (and it sounds good!). Still a long way to go, but I appreciate your time and dedication to the lessons. They're a tremendous help.
No worries, glad I could help.
Im 16 and just starting to learn. But the only guitar I have is my brothers that is missing the G and E string, I’m working on getting my own tho
At last a teacher that actually gives me somewhere to start learning. I have just turned 54 and thought what the hell I'm going to learn to play guitar. I bought an Ibanez GRX-70 QA and now I have a smile from ear to ear after playing some of these. The way you explain things makes it easy. Just to hear something I played recognizable made my day....

Thanks Angela glad you enjoyed the lesson, don't forget to check out part 2 and 3 where we slowly increase your skill.
Great instruction for beginners. I am new to guitar and watched many videos - the 'proper method' with chords and scale exercises, as well as old rock dudes who learned before they 'had names for things' and show you riffs and licks. My fingers are just learning, and playing simple versions of recognizable songs on one string is perfect for me.
Thanks mate, glad I could help.
I found this a few days ago and it's really been a big help in memorizing where the frets are. And it's nice to be able to actually have what I play sound somewhat like music.
Greeting from the Aussie rock chick living in Germany.
Thank you so much! I have been trying to learn to play the guitar on and off for years (I'm 38). The biggest problem has been that during my teens years both of my brothers played (both still do) and didn't have the patience to teach me. Nowadays I am happily married to a fantastic musician (guitar and piano) but it's still similar situation, he loses patience. Plus I feel he tries to get me to run before I can walk. I absolutely understand their frustration, I am a teacher myself and know how hard it can be to teach someone. So I have decided to stack off the guys all together and try doing it by myself!
I have leant some proper cords in the past (think I remember them) but I think getting a few easier riffs under my belt might help me stick with it and learn/teach myself more.
Once again thanks very much, and you've got yourself another sub :)

and then I gave up.

A high school friend mentioned how she wanted to start lessons so I literally just handed it over. Then she moved away for college and dropped off the map. I reconnected with her about 15 years ago and mentioned the guitar I had given her. She had absolutely no memory whatsoever of that darned thing. I kinda felt sad about that too..... i would have liked to have it back - for the sake of nostalgia. but i know that's asking too much.
I wish I had never stopped trying.
And no, there was no good reason why I didn't start again. I just lost interest. I had plenty of opportunities. But I kept reminding myself how difficult it was just to tune it. My brother told me I needed to learn to do it myself because he wasn't going to tune it for me every time i asked. But I didn't have the ear for it like he did.
My mother in law kept finding old guitars just sitting outside peoples houses, waiting to be picked up by the trash man. My kids were too small to even touch then so I put them on the shelf in the top of the closet.
Now my son, who is 16, is showing some interest - because his best friend is teaching himself.
and I kinda want to start again too....
which is why i am here...
hello!
Technology seems to have finally caught up too.... when my son got interested in playing I found a tuner that actually works. So far we have tuned both curbside guitars, an ukele and a violin.
Now I just need to take the next step by learning to read music all over again.
It's obvious I will never be good at it.. which is sad because I come from a looooooooooooong line of musicians. all of them self taught with an ear to play any song after hearing it once. And my son has a double dose of that talent because his late paternal grandad had the same talent. He couldn't read music but he could play just about any song.
I doubt that talent exists in me, I'll have to learn the hard way lol
You should go back to the guitar, take your time and just learn slowly. I hope this lesson helps. It does not matter if you are the best as long as you have fun learning and playing.
Woow you made it look Soo easy 💕 and you are such a humble down to earth teacher thought you were gone unleash the dark rock style on us leaving us wondering if we could ever get that good 🙏
Thanks Victor, hope you enjoyed the lesson.
I've been a beginner guitar player for the past 55 years and I'm hopeful that I will learn something today , although I have a few rifts that I've played for 55 years I'm really wishing to actually play songs that will impress my lovely wife ❤ Brenda .
Stick at it, you'll get there.

2023 here decided to pick up a guitar… I was just enjoying strumming on it but I wanted more… no video helps me. It doesn’t help I’m left handed either. Untill I found you! I’ve learned 5 of these in 1hr! You’re amazing the way you explain makes so so so much sense
Thanks mate, glad I could help.
Learned so much in such a short space of time. Can start a pub band in no time, only joking. But this is really good and such a confidence builder.
This video was awesome, I was able to get all 15 down, and most of the songs I really like which is a change from being taught pretty mundane songs from others channels
Great to hear. Don't forget to check out parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Thanks for the comment.
