This lovely grandfather clock is 8 feet 10 and 1/4 inches tall but what a magnificent case it is. It's got the break arch right at the very top, the sound fret and the break arch mirror on the top of the dial here, you've got a penny Moon which rotates and tells the age of the Moon and then the time of high tide, which can be set on the inner ring to tell you the time at your local port. And you've got the time of the morning and evening tides. And these wonderful big bold spandrels, lovely chaptering, complicated half hour markers and the little seconds dial. Ringed winding holes and the date aperture and then engraved here 'Christopher Gould Londoni Fecit'. And then the case itself is this wonderful banding of burr walnut and kingwood and then the very, very fine banding of boxwood with tiny, tiny ebony in the middle, it's an absolutely beautiful case. There's nothing to equal it ever made in London. The burr walnut is a wonderful mirror image and the whole thing is repeated on the side, the same wonderful banding, the same walnut side. It really is a most beautiful case.
