  • Have you heard a lot of people saying you have to go to school to get your CDL? Well, I'm here to tell you that they are wrong! I'm going to tell you how to get your cdl in one day! Yes ONE DAY! There is no school requirements to get your CDL. As long as you can drive, (back, park, etc) there are places that will go over the requirements with you and you can test all in one day (driving test). You'll have to have already taken your written tests to obtaiin your Class B or Class A CDL Once you have that out of the way, all that is left is the drive test. Lots of people try and make this way more complex than it is! Here is the link to the FMCSA ELDT rules. tpr.fmcsa.dot....

    I hate to burn up your feeds with questions but I just found you and am right in the middle of starting for Pinnacle and have so many questions. As I stated earlier I have driven a school bus for 12 years and still do but thinking of changing both my jobs. ( I own a small business also but burned out after 20 years) I saw a video or comment somewhere where they said you can't make money delivering singles. Have you found that to be true? You are exactly right about the schools as that is how I got mine 12 years ago and all the districts are still doing it.

      Singles is all I and others deliver. Personally, I believe it's a lot harder to make money without a tow car. I know people who do it, but they also have a lot more expenses than those of us with tow cars. The trick is managing your expenses. Some people feel like they have to stay in a motel every night, eat at Cracker Barrel 3 times a day, etc. So yeah, folks like that aren't making any money. All their money is going to expenses. Many of us with tow cars sleep in our cars and carry food with us. I eat a meal a day and rarely eat out. I keep my on the road expenses minimal. I also use every fuel discount I can find. Pre planning is key.

      @@DrivingWithDon I am not a high maintenance kind of guy either and would definitely want to have a fuel efficient car that I use just for driveaway.

    This past year I paid 1500 for my cdl a from my local community college. I start with QDA in Jan.

      Good Luck. QDA isn't bad. They have a lot of units that pick up in a lot of places. I just wish they paid more and didn't have all that paperwork!

      @DrivingWithDon My pinch hitch slipped off when I made a bad decision to back up a couple of feet. I mangled the rear license plate holder and scratched the rear diff cover. I also bent my blue ox tow bar. Not the best way to start out, lol.

      @@DrivingWithDon The cdl trucks are good with QDA, but I hate the box trucks. I can't see out of the passenger window due to dealer stickers and don't feel safe. What company would you recommend for cdl only?

      @@Rusty-Shackleford69 I remove any stickers that is blocking my view. There's a DOT regulation saying something to the effect that you view is not to be blocked. If they say anything, just tell them it's a DOT violation to have you sight blocked. They know it very well. As for other companies, Bennett moves quite a bit of CDL units and their a company large enough to have units all over like Quality does.

      @@Rusty-Shackleford69 Oh wow! I've never heard of a pinch hitch slipping. But I have broken one tow bar and bent another. The broken one came when I had to slam on the brakes on an off-ramp because a lady swerved from the right lane all the way over to the left lane. I almost nailed her. I bent a brand new Blue Ox tow bar coming out of a holding lot. There was a pretty good drop down to the road. I think my chain got too tight and bent it while I was turning.

    Hi Don, I've been watching you videos. I have a question, does TruckMovers pay for you to get your load. Meaning, I drop off a truck and need to return to Laredo, Texas for another load, do I have to pay to get to my next load or back to Laredo or does Truck Movers pay for that??

    • @DrivingWithDon
      @DrivingWithDon  10 месяцев назад

      I've never worked for TruckMovers, but I will bet that they are like other driveaway companies in that you are an Independent Contractor and it's up to you to supply your own transportation to pickup and from drop off. The only time I've heard of companies paying for rides after dropping off a truck are those doing decking with some companies.
