In 2018 the Vatican and the Communist Party of China signed a deal ostensibly to try and make life easier for Chinese Catholics. Since then though it's been alleged that the Catholic Church has allowed the CCP to take over Catholocism in China for payment, a payment which has also led the Church becoming increasingly subservient to China.

Could the deal be, "don't talk bad about us, and your 10 million followers won't end up in camps"?
Probably, hard to say what would be the better solution here.

There is something suspicious about this deal AND it is sensible for the catholic church to keep it secret, these aren't mutually exclusive.

@@MrAranton Well, the Vatican is barely a nation in terms of its population and his absolute power extends only to the theological, unlike in China where the absolute power of the state has intervened into faith, public life, economic freedoms, etc.
@@zackerycooper1206 You cannot separate the Vatican from the catholic church. Because of his role in the latter, the leader with absolute power, chosen by a bunch of old farts is way more influential than the size of the country would suggest and able to achieve things China couldn't even begin to dream about. For example: I live in Germany, and here the catholic church as an employer is not bound to the same anti-discrimination rules worldy employers are. They're allowed to reject applicants (and even fire people) based on things, worldly employers aren't even allowed to ask. No way China would be able to secure similar exceptions for their activities in Germany.

@@AD-mw5mv So, in essence, you're saying all those abused and traumatised children were worth it? Heaven knows there's no way for charitable organisations to exist without kiddie fuckers, right?
It's not the Vatican that pays for those schools and charities, that's paid by donations, taxes and other, so conflating the good people in the church who would do and give to charity even without the catholic church with the cesspool that is the Vatican is laughably incoherent. Matter of fact, since only 10% of the donations to the Vatican itself go to charity instead of PAYING OFF THOSE SEXUAL ABUSE LAWSUITS, it would be leagues better for every one of those donations to go to a different organisation.
The Vatican does not exist to propagate morality, to help the poor and sick, or to do good in the world. The primary goal of the Vatican is to preserve its own existence and thereby the power of the people in it. I say, let it crumble and burn.

Though I'm loathe to defend China, my only correction would be that there is less evidence of literal genocide in Xinjiang as there is proof of CULTURAL genocide. The point of the concentration camps is to eradicate the Uighur identity, while keeping their bodies alive to toil in sweatshops under Han masters shouting orders that they now fully understand, due to the mandarin they must learn under threat of torture. Whether or not mass disenfranchisement and enslavement is any less gruesome than mass extermination, I leave up to the reader.

I don't think most people would call the Catholic Church a Paragon of Virtue
And that's why their numbers are shrinking, not only in China
the pope is not the church. but it is a smelly sinful deal.
@C D Well if by that you mean protestantism it is not a different faith, there may be' some differences but they are still Christian!
Yet it should, since by church you mean the whole of it and not only the hierarchy. Should i remember that the church is the biggest charity organization in the world and what they do for poor people all around the world
@@davidetonetti4652 Charity does not erase their past. Not just the distant past but even into the second half the of 20th century the Catholic Church was working hand in hand for mutual political gain with fascist leaders across the world. It's a deeply conservative organization that raises an incredible amount of money, the fact they give some of it back to causes of their own choosing is beside the point (unsurprisingly none gets to marginalized communities like the LGBT communities and many recipients of church charity take actively anti-LGBT policies).

@@sabinehahn9774 If you are not Catholic this has nothing to do with you. If you are Catholic you must believe in the papal infallibility. If you'd like this agreement to be public in order to speculate about it, then it means that the decision to keep it confidential is a wise decision.

The old Soviet Union flag had a small gold star, the flag shown in the video did not.
Ha ha ha ha they don't want children to go to church! Hey keep your priests away from the kids!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the CCP policy about under-18s has fuck all to do with protecting anyone from pedophilia and everything to do with indoctrination... a population that is raised from birth to not believe in anything more powerful than the State is easier to control via totalitarian methods; people who believe in higher power than any man-made institution, morality that supersedes law, and the idea of a spiritual afterlife where they will be rewarded for their morality are way more willing to risk their own lives in an attempt to resist an oppressive government than the ones who think the best they'll ever get in life is being governed by the Party.
@@JimRFF Considering that for most of history states used the belief in deities as a means to keep the people in check (the feudal system IS how god built the world, trying to change it is blasphemy and will get you to hell for all eternity) your reasoning makes little sense. Higher power is worth jack-shit as long as it's human beings that tell others what that "higher power" wants them to do.
Learn to take a joke, all of you!! Personally I think that it should be a policy done everywhere, religious indoctrination to children should be forbidden.
This is a video title I didn’t expect to see
For me, the most interesting thing to take away is: What does it say about a religion, if, just by preventing young, mouldable minds from being taught it at an early age, it automatically leads to the religion dying out?
Well it applies for pretty much everything, for instance If you were prevented to be thaught respect for women and you are raised in a context were women are considered inferior, once you grow up you will probably think the same
If this is true, the real question to me is why do you think china would produce such a great effort to eliminate Christian presence there?
@@davidetonetti4652 Because China is highly suspicious of any movement or socially cohesive structure which allows messaging that could, in theory, be used for anti-government purposes. The Iranian revolution is a good example where this actually happened.
@@Nyocurio i think thats just part of the answer, because every association could be use to that purpose (even a football team fanclub for example). The main reason, in my opinion, is that the Christian moral and values are incompatible with such a dictatorial regime and their spreading is a threat to the regime itself
If you are a cult then yes this will end your religion. The Catholic Church did not want common people able to read the scriptures for fear that their bastardization of the religion would be revealed. Notice that in that time frame and under persecution the Protestant believe has multiplied by 60X. Cults die but the truth will forever live on
Thank you
I'm a roman catholic! I'm ashamed with current vatican stance on china with catholic and for that matter any other religion!
Catholic church - a paragon of virtue. That's a good one, gave me a good laugh.
I know you did a video on the concentration camps, but the organ harvesting of minorities and political dissidents in China is another interesting topic I think needs more exposure, if you agree with the claims of the "china tribunal" regarding organ harvesting Ethan Gutmann has an interesting book on it, also there's many videos that seem genuine of calls to hospitals and anonymous tips, in addition to many refugees that claim they had their DNA sampled, members lost, bodies burned. Also the expediency of which you can get multiple organs in China bares highlighting in comparison to traditional waiting times.
Informative videos though, all the best to your team!
@Alan Lee I won't judge you for that comment, as I don't have to worry that my leaders will drag me off for being a separatist if I disagree with their narrative.
However I've quoted why I believe it, do you feel confident you could protest in China pretending to be a member of the falun gong or Islamic community?
Also if you're reading this in China, you are accessing this site through a VPN, why do you think that is?
@Alan Lee that's very specific, what I said was pretty broad, let me go broader, would you even feel confident you could protest in China?
Because your example starts with "guilty terrorist", it doesn't start with "I disagree with the government".
Not all members of the islamic faith are jihadist extremists. The Falun Gong (not islamists closer to buddhists maybe) were an extremely peaceful example, and many of them ended up dying screaming forgiveness or fearing they'd hate those beating and raping them, and I believe, those butchering them for spare parts.
@Alan Lee Look into the Falun Gong, and then decide if it's nonsense, or an inconvenient truth that the west has decided to ignore because it doesn't want to utterly ruin it's relationship with the world's 2nd superpower. I encourage you, and anyone reading this to not take my word for it, or yours, just look it up, on a vpn if you have to.
@Alan Lee So we can kill them?
You are right! A true man of God will not bow down to anyone, even to CCP!
They will just gather you up and put you in concentration camps.
Great content, as usual.
As a piece of constructive criticism/comment, though, I noticed that the narrator recently changed his intonation to be more pronounced. Maybe that's just because I'm used to the more monotonous reading of older videos, but I'm not too much of a fan of the new style. That doesn't change the quality of the content at all, it's just that I found myself being distracted by it in the last two videos.
Anyway, keep it up!

I wonder how US catholics feel about this considering the attitude to China in that demographic.
I can tell you that there are at least two Catholic Cardinals that have condemned China's genocide and that I personally, even though I am not exactly sure if I qualify as a Catholic in very great standing with the Catholic Church, I am very disappointed and think its virtually a scandal. I wrote my full opinion in another comment on here.
I'm not entirely certain what people would expect from an agreement between the Catholic Church and a Marxist Leninist State? They are fundamentally at odds with each other, and only one of them has a way to politically enforce their will. I'm doubting that there was any monetary involvement, not because it couldn't happen, but because why would the CCP offer money? They have complete authoritarian control in their country and they can continue to pull apart the Church in their country as they wish, in the same way they seem to be able to carry out Genocide without any response from the rest of the world. I imagine that the Vatican is simply trying to maintain some element of control over the church, in hopes of still reaching their faithful in some way - the alternative is to have what would essentially be a new "protestant" church, similar to the Church of England.
The book of revelation is being fullfiled.

that stuck out to me as well, though since the CCP got its aethetic from the soviets and claims to continue a legacy derived of marxist-leninism, it's little more than a split hair. If there's anything I take issue with, it's the insinuation that communism and the soviet diaspora are one and the same.

Right. That is something you would think is a reasonable request. Unfortunate for Europe this is unacceptable, as many countries here are slowly slipping into religious states (like in middle east, but with Christianity, not Islam)
Not allowing religious indoctrination of children under 18 is actually a pretty good policy.

They don't have a problem with indoctrination. They have a problem with pedophilia.
The Vatican is already immensely rich so I’m not sure how money comes into this.

@@JamesBond-ny8bq removal of choice for the parent, but it actually gives the child a choice they wouldnt have if they were indoctrinated since birth. And it might stop genital mutilation. Besides, isnt it a better thing if an adult comes to your religion of their own choice? Instead of never doing it because of childhood indoctrination.
@@Botjer1 I think it all comes down to the matter of state intrusiveness and the fact that this (as it is being made use of in China) primarely serves not the purpose of protecting the child from religious teachings and like in your example genital mutulation ( though I think that might take Europe off the table because those kinds of practices are less at home in Christian faiths and more in the religions that are more often found in the less developed and more troubled parts of the world) but to enable the state (which in this case is an authoritarian genocidal one) to take an even greater role in the day-to-day life of it's citizens and yet more importantly to give the state the ability to be able to install the beliefs that it sees fit and that serve it. Now I personally think that parents should have the choice to install their believes in their children because after all they are there's.

They are both as evil as you can possibly get, so no wonder they get along.
I remember reading years ago how the Jesuits were making inroads into China a couple of centuries ago, with permission to travel around China converting people. They made things easier by turning a blind eye to the worshipping of ancestors, and were achieving a lot of success. However the Dominican Order, ever jealous of the Jesuits, got the ear of the Pope and moaned about the Jesuits, who then sent a top Cardinal (friendly to the Dominicans) to see what they were up to, and on arrival he got quite angry, condemned the adoration of ancestors and said it was idolatry and upset everybody so much the Chinese Emperor or Emperess said "Enough of this, you can all get lost" and shut down the whole thing, stopping the conversion roll-out dead in it's tracks. At least that's how I remember it.
It does make one wonder what might have happened if China had turned Catholic back then. No 'one child' policy, for a start...
True bro but i reckon this was organised years ago. We don't fully understand how the ruling power organise power plays behind our backs.
That's more or less how it went down. But their rivalry is not in terms of jealousy, it has more to do with theology and often politics. And in this case, Dominicans were right, given that it was idolatry, but perhaps they could have approached the problem in a less disruptive way

No it seems our enormous amounts of charity and being the Church established by Jesus Christ checks out as us being virtuous. Repent.
hi 7:01 you wrote 2 million instead of 2 billion, other than that very informative thanks
“You might expect the Catholic Church as a paragon of virtue”...maybe compared to pol pot or Stalin
Dude. Stalin would have to live 5000 years to try to do half the evil the church has done.
Organized religion is all about the money... Who would have thought...
I’m catholic and let’s be honest, did we expect anything less from a holy paedophile ring?
There isn't anything Catholic about your comment and there isn't even anything factual about it either. The Catholic Church is not a pedophile ring and except among anti-catholic circles the sexual abuse of minors isn't even really the scandal its the coverup and virtually all of those cases are from decades ago most before 1970...

The pope is way more obedient than Dalai Lama
I have come to expect more of you, TLDR News. In this video you are picking and mixing the three entities of the Holy See, the Vatican state and the Church (I guess you mean the Latin Church, which is the biggest and richest of the catholic churches?). While the holder of the Holy See is also the sovereign of the Vatican state and the head of the Catholic churches theses should not be confused with each other. I wish I had the time to explain more, just google it (or use other search engines, as you prefer) and, please, don´t just cast a wide net and hope for peoples ignorance - you are better than that.
Stop being such a pedantic person.
We understand who are they talking. There's no need for distinction.
Umm what? There are plenty of children going to church in China, at least in Shenzhen. We go to a Roman Catholic Church and there are children in the audience and as altar servers
If it’s a secret how did it get on RUclips?
“There were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will introduce destructive heresies and even deny the Master who ransomed them, bringing swift destruction on themselves.”
2 Peter 2:1
It seems that about 3/4 this video is hearsay or speculation. I dont think this qualifies as news, more like gossip.
The only speculative bit is the 2 billion dollars number and even that has a source.
Probably one of the best researched web-news you can find. If you have a problem or a better and more reliable information source, I'm sure they are happy for you to contact the makers of TLDR.
@@LordAJ12345 You didn't watch the same video everyone else did.
MAYBE. FAKE NEWS IS EVERYWHERE. BUT IM CATHOLIC BUT I DONT LIKE THE POPE. HES A GLOBALIST.
The Catholic Church is corruptted by money. Uh duh.
The Catholic Church is also the biggest private charity organization in the world. It is important how and from where the Vatican is getting the money, but it should also be taken into consideration where that money goes.
