- A love-letter to the first Smackdown game on the Playstation 1, and my first wrestling game.
I look back at how I got hooked on the magnificent world of wrestling that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for this game.
Let me know what you think in the comments below, and what your first wrestling-game was!
Thanks for stopping by!
The “hey is that Goldberg” in that voice had me dying
Haha glad you liked it. It was more of a toddler than a young teen though😅
@@VanHellingtonStudios great video. Brings back memories playing this game that "Paul Bearer" thumbnail LOL 😆 😂 😆 😂
@@christophernicholson20 haha glad you liked it🤟🏻
@@VanHellingtonStudios funniest part of this game is the fact that you could swap heads and torsos and legs in the create a wrestler menu, I remember putting Kane's head with Stone Cold body 😆 😄 😂
@@christophernicholson20 some crazy combinations were made for sure haha total freakshow
This game was my introduction to wrestling in general. I first played it at a friend’s house who was obsessed with WWF. I remember he recommended I use The Rock. Great game! Nothing today comes close to rivaling it for me.
It holds such powerful memories this game, and he recommended well 👌🏻
Holy shit, my first experience was the same story as yours! Haha. A friend of mine had a PS1 and two SmackDown games, and he introduced me to them as well as wrestling in general. He was always a fan of Stone Cold, while I was captivated by The Rock's electrifying charisma. I remember we would always argue about which one of the two is better. Damn, good times. And yes, nothing ever came close to SmackDown for me as far as wrestling games go.
It was weird that Jeff Jarrett's head and face i think Goldust too was another one of the models in the create a wrestler section even though they weren't with the company at that time or even in the game
@@TonyMcCrea haha those were the best discussions!
@@christophernicholson20 it was a great way to add those missing the deadline, and then the faces were recognisable, but also... not😅 they could easily get away with it haha
Lol, love the origin story there. I remember when non-wrestling fans who were friends would play the games at my house they almost always gravitated towards Kane or Undertaker if WWE or Sting if WCW.
We were all emo-edgelords back then, and they looked megacool, comicbooks come to life
back when wrestlers had personality give me kane, hhh, kendo ngasaki and big daddy over beard man in black shorts#10 anyday
The nostalgia is real! Man this brings back memories
Nothing but good memories I hope👍🏻
@@VanHellingtonStudios OH YEAH I was a huge wrestling fan during my teenage years so this game and the N64 wrestling games were game changers and close to my heart
@@Baraka_Obama_ best time to be a wrestling fan for sure!🤟🏻
You’ve GOT to play SD!2
If you dug the first one this much, you’re gonna be obsessed with 2. It’s SOOOO good! And the roster is insane. Brilliant entry.
I sure as hell will!
Second best game ever . The first is HCTP 4 me
@@damen8964 I feel ya,
1. HCTP
2. SD2!
3. RvSD 07'
Loved those 3.
the load time for the cut scenes ruins the season mode
@@billcaitlinmarinelli1680 yeah man I use to love that game and I feel like half the hours I spent playing this game was the load screens
I LOVED THIS GAME as a kid. I remember watching WWF EVERY FRIDAY couldn’t wait … wrestling was sooooo different back then
Golden age in my opinion
Yeah, it was complete shit, with idiotic gimmicks, horrendous storylines, nonsensical, overbooked matches that usually ended in a run in by 10-20 people or a DQ and title changes every week. It was only popular because it followed the "Let's be offensive" routine started by Jerry Springer and South Park, which was the fad of the moment in Burgerland.
that smackdown intro gave me goosebumps!!!
I know, right?!
I'm not even 4 minutes in and this is my new favorite channel. Thanks for helping to get me through tomorrow's work day man
Same man. EXACTLY the same
That means so much to me, dudes, thanks👊🏻
I actually loved the included "lore", took me back to those days considering I was about the same age.
I was afraid noone would care haha thanks man, I appreciate it🤟🏻
Heres my wrestling game backstory
I had wwf wrestlemania on nes and later it's namesake on amiga but wwf attitude was the one to get me hooked and the weekend we rented attitude we bought wwf warzone(the better AND worse game) i later bought ecw hardcore revolution as well as renting wcw backstage assult
But p'aying the sd1 demo was a whole new world but sd3 was my fave
I also bought all 3 legends of wrestling games but 2 was the best and i spent a whole xmas day glued to backyard wrestling
This was the year after i got a gba and 2 amazing games ... Spyro and wwe wm but i also soon got thps2 and fire pro wrestling
Now in 2023 i love fp returns,g and world
Those older games bought us together ... One year my friend was sick so i kept her spirts up by going round to play wwe wm 18 on gamecube
Smackdown 2 was my first wrestling game, Tekken 3 was my first fighting game. We had it good on the PS1. Thanks for the nostalgia trip.
Great video!
This was really cool. These games were a great part of my childhood. Time flies!
Unfortunately it does. Spend it well, play the old classics😬
I remember having this game on my PS1, I could never stop playing it.
I know the feeling, it was like crack to me😅
"WCW Revenge" on Nintendo 64. My first wrestling game. Christmas 1998. Priceless memories.
Nah man, keep up the backstories in future vids. It's always fun listening to how people got into wrestling and their experiences. Great vid
I'll keep it in mind👍🏻
Soooo many good memories! Especially with Smackdown 2 and HCtP.
attitude before this was my main wrestling game until this game came out. Man even the smack down titan torn just brings back happy memories
Great video!! I didn't play Smackdown till the PS2 version but went back and played 1 and 2 later and enjoy them. I actually enjoyed the backstory!! I think most gamers have a tale of a game they lent to a friend that ended bad!!👍👍👍
Haha never would I have guessed the influence one game would have on my life😅
But thanks man, appreciate it👊🏻
I played this for hours!!!! Then I got my hands on “here comes the pain”🔥
And I'm assuming you played that even more?😅
The legendary Smackdown.
My brothers and I were huge into wrestling and their games.
WWF Attitude was what we played a bunch until one day we seen this game on sale for $9.99 at Sam Goody and our mom got it for us. It was easily the most exciting new wrestling game. Graphics were crazy and going backstage was insane. Then Smackdown 2 took it to the next level. Improved in everything. Smackdown 2 is even better than No Mercy for the N64 AND Just Bring it for PS2. Most of the newer games have been trash but those from the Attitude and Ruthless Aggression Era were legendary.
These are my favorite 10 wrestling games of all time:
WWE Smackdown Here Comes the Pain
WWE 14
WWE 13
WWF Smackdown 2 Know Your Role
WWE 19
WWE Smackdown Shut your mouth
WWF Wrestlemania the Arcade Game
WWE All Stars
WWF No Mercy
WWF Attitude
I agree with all of them, especially All-Stars! Underrated gem! I will definitely make a future video about that one. Wrestlemania 2000 was my first n64 wrestling game, loved that one aswell, despite no mercy being better overall
Very nostalgic indeed! It's great to relive the memories back then. Good work, man. And nice storytelling by the way. ;)
Glad you liked it, thanks🙌🏻
No Mercy was my favorite but I played a lot of other old wrestling games before that.
Keep it up man. I cant wait to see what you think of other popular wrestling games
Thanks a lot dude, already working on it. Luckily there are a LOT of good wrestling games still to go.
Don't expect the 2k series anytime soon though haha Had my fill with the 45min 2K22 video
My childhood. Growing up playing this 🇬🇧
Kane made his debut at Badd Blood 1997 and was also the first hell in a cell match Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels! This was the best Era of wrestling also know as The Attitude Era.
The kane moment was the moment that made me love wrestling too. Iconic.
I mean, how can you top that debut? 10/10
That was cool of your friend to let you take a look at those VHS tapes!
Yeah it really was! I hope he doesn't read this or it'll go to his head for sure😅
@@VanHellingtonStudios lol, oh well, seems like a good dude, he can have a win and some delusions of grandeur!😁👍
@@matthewlane518 yeah I guess I owe him that much😅
The quality and effort here has instantly earned you a sub. Really looking forward to seeing you make your way through the rest of the SmackDown series!
Aw too kind! Thanks a lot! Spoiler though: might stop after 2k14, for obvious reasons haha still many more other games luckily😅
@@VanHellingtonStudios Oh yeah as long as you cover up to HCTP I'm happy!
@@systemmonitor5295 ofcourse I will!🤟🏻
Great video! Love the nostalgia trip definitely grew up playing this
Thanks bruh! Appreciate it👊🏻
@@VanHellingtonStudios no prob keep it up
I’ve watched the first 30 seconds of this video reading the comments at the same time and the fact the creator replies and likes the comments shows a lot.
Thanks for making this video.
I had childhood flashbacks that moved me.
Thanks buddy. I appreciate this video.
You got a sub.
I appreciate that a whole hell of a lot man, thanks👊🏻
DUDE. Thank you. I've seen multiple videos about the original Smackdown game, and no one else ever mentions the feature where you can see the names of the moves! That was one of my favorite features and is how I ALSO learned basic move names when I was a kid! I wish they'd bring it back. As far as I know, that was only ever featured in this game! You earned a subscriber just for mentioning that haha
Haha thanks man, the only problem was some of the names were incorrect but whatever, I loved it.
Building a wrestling match can sometimes read like a math paper with logical inference chains.
Many long nights I spent playing this game as a child 😂 the nostalgia is real
It was a month of hard work, but the nostalgia playing it was sure as hell worth it!🤟🏻
Funny 😁 I was already a WWF fan and I got Smackdown 1&2 at the same time good times
You were in luck👌🏻
besides of graphics old wwe got a huge space in everyone's childhood
It truly was a great time to grow up in. The wrestling games were so amazing back then
"He stomped a mud hole in my ass & walked it dry!"
Spot TF on, my dude. Pure perfection. Couldn't be said any more perfectly. 🤣🤣🤣
Haha thanks🤟🏻
This video deserves more views and you deserve more subs.
Damn dude I appreciate the hell out of that! I just started though, so I'm not expecting miracles. I'm delighted people like my videos as much as they do, very greateful for that
I thought he was gonna have way more videos and subs too lol it sounds like he's been doing this forever
@@PuckACanuck I can't tell you how much I appreciate that man👊🏻
@@PuckACanuck right?! I thought the same.
I remember buying this game at some variety store called essentials plus in Manhattan. Watching these entrances with crisp music(at the time), fast gameplay and expansive environments was a god send. The first wrestling game I played was wed WrestleMania for the super Nintendo..... believe me it sucked.
To this day i still have a copy of this game. Awesome video.
Thanks dude! Yeah the intros and audio were so clean, especially when compared to the n64 games. SNES wrestling games were... a fun distraction, that's about it🤷🏻♂️
I remember when this came out also. Played it for hours as I was completely obsessed with wrestling around this time~
Same bro. As a kid me and my friends were hella obsessed. I remember back in Elementary school we would talk rumors like how Kane got his mask and other stuff life that. Good times
@@Sbzmike Everyone who saw Kane wondered what he looked like haha I miss those conversations
Yo props to that cool dude that came back the next day with some tapes for you to watch though. Sounds like a cool dude.
Yeah, he's still one of my best friends. Wrestlingfan bonds are strong haha
That’s an awesome story I’m a wrestling fan as well and have my own fond memories of certain games wrestling games that did the same for me so it’s always a pleasure and an honor to hear someone else’s because if you know you know 💯
Good to hear😊
the first 5 smackdown games were chef's kiss!
Loved the 3 after that aswell, but the series was taking a turn in a different direction for sure
This really was a revolutionary game, one of the best Wrestling games from that era! But the best intro was definitely Val Venis! 😂Really enjoyed the video, man, keep it up!
Tnx man, will do🤟🏻
This was my first wrestling game too! Loved it and still do. Subbed and looking forward to new videos about wrestling games!
Thanks! Surprise coming within a few hours I hope🤟🏻
The lore was excellent! The whole thing was. New sub for you!
Thanks a lot man! Appreciate it!
Man this video brings me back. My neighbor used to come over to play my Nintendo 64 and when we went to his house we played his PlayStation. At my house we played WWF NO MERCY. At his we played SMACKDOWN. I remember being so impressed with all the presentation of smackdown. The crowd , the camera flashes in the big moments. We loved both games. Thanks for takin me back in time. You’re a great story teller.
Appreciate that dude, tnx👊🏻
Smackdown 2 is my favourite wrestling game! It is also in my top 10 games.
I didn't even knew what pro wrestling was before playing this game.
Creating my own superstars and fighting against my brother and sister.
Good times.
It's funny how you both checked for scratches on the discs. My friends and I did it as well. My first was WWF Royal Rumble on the saga. Then WWF Raw on snes, Wrestlmania the arcade. (both playstation and snes) Don't even get me started on the N64 wrestling games!😍
Oof yeah what gems they were
Great video and storytelling. Still have a huge soft spot for the first Smackdown game. That and 2 were some of my most played PS1 games.
Appreciate it😊
Dude, i loved hearing the lore. I love stories about nostalgia, but when you remember and put it into words, awesome. I was a fan since I was a baby. In the Alaska village then, hulk and macho were the shit.
But my fav.game to rent from.blockbuster was WCW vs nwo 64
Thanks man, that means a lot that you liked it! Was afraid it might've been too much haha and wcw vs nwo was awesome, played that one all the time at my friends house, what a banger time that was🤟🏻
I actully just found WCW vs nwo world tour(second one) at our pawn shop for 8 bucks.
@@slanderman3296 now that is a steal! Enjoy it man🤟🏻
I'm 29 now and these games were everything as a kid. I must have made hundreds if not thousands of CAFs, played hundreds of thousands of matches and I could give you the height, weight and hometown of any wrestler, no problem.
My wrestling knowledge was insane and I grew up during the best era of wrestling. Attitude Era. Loads of recorded VHS tapes. So many action figures I pleaded with my parents to buy me.T-shirts, posters, the lot.
My mum even built The Three Tier (where I could put my figures in poses on three levels)
And it all has faded away. Nothing I'm passionate about now other than the drums.
This was a very difficult video for me to watch. I mean really difficult. Incredible job.
Peace and love from 🏴
Sad to hear you had such a hard time watching this, man😔 but it does sound like you had one hell of a childhood.
You can always go back replay these gems, I know it has gotten me through some hard periods. HBK lost his smile once, and he got it back too eventually. Dont mean the whole bible thing, ah you know what I mean! Stay strong dude👊🏻🤟🏻
@@VanHellingtonStudios Your story was great, honestly. But what a jerk that kid was! You took care with his game and he ruined yours. I'm not a bully but if I was your friend at school, I'd have scared him into getting you a new copy lol it helps being tall. It's what saved me from being bullied haha
@@ajaxlewis7664 it was complicated😅
I had smack down one and two. The memories as a kid playing both for hours. I was completely blown away because war zone was nothing like them. The controls were easier and the movements felt more realistic at that time. Take me back bro 😩
I wish I could.. those were amazing times🙌🏻
@@VanHellingtonStudios Sucks you never got to play know your role. That’s when table matches, Ladder matches, TLC matches and Hell in the cell was introduced. Also the roaster was a bit bigger. I lost my shit at 8 years old being able to recreate undertaker vs mankind in a hell in the cell match. The cell design was ehh at that time but as a kid I didn’t give a fuck it was still fun as hell. Crazy you couldn’t find a copy because know your role came out the same year like 8 months later from the first game. Never less happy you got to experience the first game 💪🏾💪🏾
@@Sbzmike Yeah I read all about the game in the magazines, but I was already overwhelmed with the content from the 1st game so I wasn't mad I never got it. Always wanted to play it though, and for a future vid I definitely will!
@@VanHellingtonStudios you should. Pretty sure you can get a copy on Amazon easily these days
@@Sbzmike I have it on emulator, so expect a video in the future🤟🏻
Growing up in Europe (Latvia) sounds very similar to me 😄There was no WWE on TV or internet access. My older cousin showed Smackdown and Smackdown 2 to me when I was 8. Got hooked on it. Didn't understand everything either because the game had some bad Russian translations 😄Mostly used Kurt Angle because I was having success with his german suplex pin. Eventually when I got PS2, started playing SvR2007 and Legends of Wrestling 2.
Dude yes, svr07 is one of my favorites. It's funny how wrestling was completely bizarre to me, and I understood none of it, but I just couldn't look away 😅
@@VanHellingtonStudios Backstage brawls were so entertaining, especially for an 8 year old 😄 I remember at first I thought that my opponent escaped the cage because he was scared and lost 😄I think that was around 2003. Really got back into it with SVR around 2006/2007. That season mode was amazing and graphics are good even for today's standards.
@@armis99 I had 07 on the xbox360 (bought it for that and Saints Row) and the graphics were mindblowing. Thdy still hold up too. Future video for sure!
@@VanHellingtonStudios Yes, if you look at other 2007 games like FIFA and compare graphics to today - it is significantly different but when it comes to wrestling - not so much. Looking forward to the SVR video. I'd suggest checking out Legends of Wrestling 2 too.
@@armis99 isn't showdown the best one? Thats the internet consensus anyway😅 it looked like a fun game to cpu match
Good memories back then, pulling all nighters with my brother. ‘on smack down just bring it’ also ‘know your role’
Great games, all of em
This game brings back many cool memories for me. My dad had the game as I was too young to play games like that and one day he forgot to take the disc out the console. I didn't tell my dad or mum and managed to play a solid few hours before he noticed. He grounded me and banned me from playing PS for a week but I didn't care. I was hooked and after doing all my chores and being grounded for a week I managed to talk him round to letting me play it on Friday nights if I was good. Legendary times that I will never get to have back, least I got the memories.
Stealth-playing wrestling games sounds like a great memory haha Not being able to play it, knowing it's there must've been pure torture. I think he might have been scared you'd overwrite his season mode progress. Happened to me, oof, still salty about that haha
@@VanHellingtonStudios he probably was scared I would overwrite it tbh haha. What an amazing game it was and a great era to be alive back then. Take me back please 🙏 haha
I've watched so much Botchamania I can't hear the old Smackdown theme without expecting to hear "I'VE BEEN IN THE DANGER ZONE!" "JEEEEZUS!" "HOW MUCH DOES DIS GUY WEIGH???"
So relatable as a fellow Dutchie - also got introduced to Smackdown in high school
I still have my copy. I was a junior in college at the time back in March of 2000 and couldn't wait to get my hands on this game. Picked it up on day 1 and was blown away by the gameplay and presentation.
I know exactly how you feel, that copy is one of my most prized posessions🥰
@@VanHellingtonStudios that's awesome
Finally someone who shares my love for the smackdown games for the ps1. I strongly suggest you to check Know your role and Just bring it...They are hillarious 💯👌😁💖
Haha JBI coming soon, SD2 a little later😉
Thank you sooo much for this trip down memory lane
Glad you enjoyed it man🤟🏻
I played the crap out of this game! I turned 15 in February of 2000 so we’re the same age. This was a great time to be a wrestling fan!
It sure as hell was!🤟🏻
Same here I turned 15 in September of 2000 this game is still at my parents house somewhere along with my old game systems lol and it was an awesome time to be a wrestling fan back then....also when the intro to the game played in this video I was headbanging on my way home from work 😅😅😅
@@brookswilliams5239 yeah man, it still rules. Although I never looked up the lyrics haha still sounds like random gurgling😅
Dude Know your Role was great, it took everything good about Smackdown! and just made it better.
Wrestling in the late 90s, early 00s was on a different level, also I was a kid so it was even more amazing to me. I was in elementary school and my first memory of WWF was seeing one of my classmates wearing a Stone Cold t-shirt around 1998. A couple years later, my cousin had the WWF games on the N64, WrestleMania 2000 and No Mercy. I would play those with him and by myself. No Mercy is really what hooked me and how I became a fan of wrestling. I would play Survival Mode, pretty much the Royal Rumble but it can go up to 99 superstars. I loved playing that and seeing how far and long I could survive. By playing so much, I eventually learned who everyone was by their entrance themes. Then I started watching the TV show and it was cool to see the real life characters compared to the video game. It was pretty accurate and larger than life.
I got Smackdown on PS1 later on when I got a PS2. I enjoyed it as well but not as much as No Mercy and some time had passed by then and Just Bring It was out too so it didn't have the same appeal on me as it would've of if I played it when it was new. It was crazy to see the evolution in the games and so quickly so I did want to go back and see the originals as well as Smackdown 2 which is about the same but definitely worth playing too.
Anyways, I enjoyed hearing your personal experience with the Smackdown game and wrestling. What a nostalgic time it was.
Im happy started with SD1, I later grew to love the complexity of the N64 games. SD was a great place to start, atleast for me
@@VanHellingtonStudios whatever gets you hooked. I like the older games like SD1 and No Mercy because they were more like games, pick up and play, and less simulation compared to the WWE 2K games.
@@EmmettXIV agree 💯
Your background lore is extremely similar to mine. I also got into WWF/Wrestling in 2000 but for me it was when Smackdown! 2 Know Your Role came out. I scrolled through the Superstar Select and seen Kane and that was it; I was hooked. My dad bought me "The Undertaker: The Phenom" VHS and one of the very first matches shown on it is the Badd Blood 97 HIAC Match which was the perfect thing I needed to see seeing how I gravitated towards Kane; I didn't even know I was about to see his first appearance. Over 2 Decades later, I'm still a huge Wrestling, Wrestling Video Game fan, and Kanenite to this very day. Not a fan of 2K20, 2K22 or the upcoming 2K23 though, so I'm still playing 2K19
Everything you said resonated with me👊🏻
I had the N64 wrestling games and those were great. For me „Here comes the pain“ took it to new levels and was clearly better than everything before.
Personally I was more of a fan of the realistic style of SYM back then, because it looked so realistic back then, but the colours were so much better in HCTP. Ironically, now I crave a wrestling game in that style. When gameplay is concerned, HCTP was phenomenal.
I started with WCW on the N64 but quickly fell in love with Smackdown. Although both games were amazing, Smackdown hooked me the hardest
I think both were excellent in their own right, and great for a first entry. Gameplaystile is a matter of preference for sure
576 subs, you making vids like a pro, keep em coming and you'll grow!
Yeah no pressure 😅 I was expecting to grow a little bit slower so I could build my library haha
I love it when u tell the story/background. It gave me a surge of nostalgia. That ending in the theatre just gave me a huge grin lol, this happens a lot back then. You scratched my disk, i keep yours. :P
It's an unwritten rule, right? law of the jungle, or something😅
Your story is cool....tell more in future videos. Just subbed 😁👍🏼
Thanks dude, much appreciated👊🏻
You deserve way way way more subscribers and that’s the bottom line
I'm happy you said so🍺
Something about the down + left + X to kick/stun and allow your special is something that will always feel great
It stills feels like second nature to pull that off.
Amazing videos I had to laugh 20 years later and still when Kane's theme hit I start singing his aggression album theme 🎵Tombstone piledrive my designed assault I'm the product of the bottom of a mindless thought. I remember begrudgingly playing this I had friends with N64s and they won the wrestling war with no mercy nwo revenge and all that
Whoa dude totally forgot that song! Listening to it right now🤟🏻 and sure, n64 had the better games, but wrestling games being new to me at the time, I really didn't care back then😅
Wow this game brings back memories
I ended up owning this game particularly late, my parents got me a copy off eBay as it was extremely cheap and I was a huge wrestling fan at the time in the mid 2000’s. Although late to the party spent many good hours of fun on this one
It's never too late to enjoy a classic
Oh man I loved this game! Keep up the great content!
Thanks man! Will try🤟🏻
That was a quality comeback
Many memories. Too much!!!❤
WCW/nWo Revenge was the foundation
Fantastic video mate, really enjoyed it 👍
Thanks a lot man! I appreciate that! :)
If they would update this game for modern game consoles...I still would play this game 😎🎮📺
💯
Awesome video man! You should definitely play SD2, I think you'll enjoy it a lot as it's basically the same thing as SD1 but with a bigger roster and more features.
Thanks! And I will haha everyone keeps telling me I missed out😅
To this day from time to time i still play smackdown and smackdown know your role lol I prefer these over the new 2k games. Great video man
Thanks a lot man. Yeah playing this again was awesome. Wish 2k did the same
I still have them and love playing smackdown 1&2 on ps1 and I used to have the game guides for them
I saw some magazines had entire movelists for all the wrestlers, I was like "Cool, yeah, but... they all played the same though😅" But guides for unlockables was quite handy. I had no need for them at that time because I barely knew who any of the unlockables were anyway haha
This was my first love this game held a special place in my heart I remember crying cuz I couldn't beat Big Bossman...but Smackdown 2 changed the game forever
Big Bosman was something special alright. And I will be discussing SD2 really soon, cant wait for it honestly
I was 11 when this came out , I used to play this like crazy. It was a game changer for sure , I compare it to wcw nitro on how different it was to the rest of the wrestling games of its time.
Our lives were never the same for sure, atleast for me
Smackdown 2: Know Your Role was even better. Much better. Especially the season mode and the create-a-wrestler mode were huge improvements, compared to the first one. I guess I've put hundreds of hours in Smackdown 2 back then.
Agree! I was so happy I recieved SmackDown 2 for Xmas that year, it was amazing and i still have a copy of it to this day.
Mate, absolutely brilliant video!
Thanks man, appreciate it🤟🏻
Your created character looked almost exactly like mine😂 love the video
That hockeymask was dope af😅
I still remember the day my mom was letting me get a random ps2 game at Walmart as a kid, and for some reason I was intrigued by WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2009, never watched any WWE prior, never played the game, it was completely new, but something told me to get it, and I did, I think my first match was Triple H vs Ashley, bc I was scared to fight a good scary fighter, boy it opened a whole new world to me, now I have 2009-2011 and I plan on buying 2007 and 8 soon to have my collection, but every now and then I run up 2009 or 10 and just relive my childhood
Once you get that urge for wrastling, it's too powerful to be ignored for sure!
Dude you would freakin love smack down 2!! It was a definite improvement from 1. Can’t believe you never played it!!
Me neither😅
You can emulate know your role that was my very first wrestling game and I love it
I'll be sure to do that for a future video, heard lots of good things about that one!
was such a great game i spent many months mastering that game
This video was great 😀It was really well put together
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that🤟🏻
I remember watching this game at 9 years old watching the older kids next door play this I felt like I was an another dimension I was the same again Chris Jericho voice
I know exactly what you mean.
The Kane debut was so scary
In the best way🤟🏻
Gr8 video mate, subscribed.
To further emphasize how good this game was, take a look at the game that came before it on PS1, WWF Warzone.
To do the finishing moves was like the button combinations to 'old skool' Mortal Kombat fatalities/brutalities. 🤣
Then Smackdown came along & with its graphics, audio & gameplay, it was one giant leap for gamers.
Thanks a lot Sanka! love Cool Runnings btw. And yeah I remember reading about those combinations and MK comparisons. I'm glad they changed course. I don't know why but when I played it, it felt important haha weird to describe but I knew things have changed forever. If Warzone was my first game I doubt I would've been hooked the way I was with SD.
Feel the rythm. feel the rhyme, get on up..
It's Bobsled time!
@@jamaicanbobsledteam753 🤟🏻🤣
I liked Warzone and at the time it was a big improvement from previous cartoony arcade types like In your House etc, it was a serious wrestling game
@@joebennie474 for sure mate! Don't get me wrong, I played the hell out of Warzone too. I had memorized all Undertaker's moves lol. Me & a mate would skip school & go home to play Warzone, good times! It was a trailblazer in it's own right.
Great video and took me back to those glorious times. This was my second wrestling game, the first one being WWF Attitude, which wasn't nearly as good as Smackdown. Having been born in 1985, I assume we are roughly around the same age. I also remember getting Smackdown 2 upon its release and as far as I can remember, it was pretty much the same great experience as the first game, with updated roster and slight improvements. It wasn't untill Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth (I think in 2002) that gave the series a fresh start with bigger improvements, such as better graphics, actual entrances, ring announcer voice and match commentary.
Spot on everything. SYM is definitely a future video👌🏻
This was my 1st wrestling game and apparently, it got me randomly interested in actual WWE on TV because of the move name display functionality and some wrestlers ingame were still active on TV. I used to call the moves in my mind myself while watching. Since then, I've been a WWE fan.
I did the same thing! I was confused when the names didn't match up with what they said on commentary😅
First time watching. Subscribed!
Thanks!🙌🏻
Brilliant video, keep em coming
Thanks! Will do!
WWE Smackdown 2 is the pinnacle of Wrestling games. Especially the season mode was ridiculous
Can't wait to play it
I thought the same thing about Hardcore Holly lmao... or that he was a "specialist" or something and would be harder to beat in hardcore mode.
I was much younger when I played my first Smackdown game though
I was just dumb or unknowing, let's assume the latter😅
