    I would like to see someone do a button lock, but have a little plate insert on the inside with a detent ball. For ME personally, that would make button locks so much more enjoyable as it solves the "weak detent/Spring issue" as well as the "button lock bounce". Hopefully, someone does it in the future as I am sure others have also thought about it. Keep up the great Job and videos Brian.

      That is exactly how the Hogue microflip is designed. However it keeps the knife from being able to flip open/closed easily just by pressing the button. Maybe the design just needs fine tuning.
      The Spydie Smock has a similar thing going with its secondary detent that isn't as stiff as the Microflip's.... but most people don't like that detent and remove it. Actually, the Smock with the secondary detent removed might be exactly what you're looking for, even though it is a button but not an actual plunge lock. Because there is still a functional detent on the liner/compression lock mechanism.
      For a plunge lock to operate with a detent like that, the detent would somehow need to be attached to or synchronized with the plunger so that both the plunge and detent releases when the button is pressed... which could prove to be a pretty difficult tuning/alignment task.

      @@davec3651 Yeah, the button style compression lock that the Smock uses is pretty much ideal. Less chance of lock failure, and cleaner detent. That being said, I find the detent/action on my Pyrite button lock feels really nice to me.

    Not a bad looking knife. When you do size comparisons, it might help some people to name the knives you are using for the comparison. (For the people that don't know every knife. Like most of us do. lol) Just thought I would throw that out there. Great video.

    This was originally going to have poor performance m390/2cv from bestech, Or elmax. And for the price that was going to be was wayyyy to much at 280 or whatever it was.
    Being vanax, that could be interesting, but china will likely have a fair amount of retained austenite. Especially for bestech who doesn't heat treat well at all for m390. I believe they only go from 57 to 61rc and the 61rc is maybe around Spyderco 60rc performance. And thats at least half the performance of Reate at 60-61rc. Yet they demand Reate prices? Makes no sense.
    I would avoid bestech in general due to their insane pricing. And i wouldn't trust Vanax would be decent until seen in testing, I doubt he would have it tested in a cardboard cut test before making a decision. Making this a gamble not only for consumers but also the designer who's ordering it. Why would you choose such a thing? Oh yeah to advertise something popular to get people to jump on it despite not knowing what value it may be in the end once tested.
    Will it have more retained austenite than a custom? Yes, will it have more ra than say Peter's? Maybe? At this point we gambling.

    • @transparentknives
      @transparentknives  Год назад

      I'm not too worried about RA because the austenitizing temperatures are on the lower side for Vanax, I'd be more concerned with edge burning since some other production Vanax knives have had issues with that
